I was just wondering what is up with this mixed doubles movement going on in UIL are there really any good Mixed teams out there or is it jus abunch of number 6's playing together
deacon
Overall, the quality of the mixed doubles teams is not there. Yes, there are a lot of lower players (5-8's) playing mixed. It will be hard to get the really good boys to play with the really good girls on a consistent basis. The reality of it is that most teenage boys don't want to play with girls in competitive situations regardless of how good the girl is.

The point of mixed doubles had more to do with increasing the number of kids who would get to play varsity tennis and go to the regional tournament (post season). Since UIL has refused to increase the number of teams going to the "playoffs" in the fall (like they did for every other team sport) and since they refused to increase from 2 to 3 the number of spring tennis entries from each district to regionals (like they did for track), the tennis coaches went for adding another format (mixed doubles).

Im just wondering who will have a solid mixed doubles team really i believe it could be interesting
princegraphite
some schools have 1 solid guy and girl that they could put together to try to get somewhere...where the coach knows neither could get out in singles.

Tyler Lee might, if they put Andee Johnson with their number 2 or 3 boy.
Firestarter
yes that would be an exceptional combination, im wondering who in 4a or 3a might show up to represent east texas in mix
deacon
Tyler Lee did have Johnson playing mixed at TX High in Feb. with one of the top boys and they won the draw pretty easily. Haven't seen them since so I don't know if she is still playing mixed. Did hear through the grapevine that there was an alchohol incident with the team. Don't know name of kids involved, (wouldn't say if I did) but that could effect who is and who is not playing including mixed doubles.

Megan Phinny and Joey Clay have been winning from Gladewater...don't know who they have actually had to play that's tough though - mixed is still that unknown beast for most schools
TheAce
The team of Lorren and Patrick from Lindale should win state in 3A. They have played awesome this year and beat wylies mixed team. Both are super champs. So, in my opinion, if they play well, they will win.
Firestarter
Didnt the lindale team lose to White oak?
TheAce
Even if they did, they could have had a bad match. I know that they have been working in lessons with the coach from Grand Saline, who has coached Lorren for a couple of years. So, i know they are improving and putting the chemistry together, so they will be tough. They are a very strong favorite in my opinion.

you sure they are both super champs players???
TheAce
Yes, I am 100% sure.
Firestarter
I dont kno many super champs who would blow a match, maybe it wasnt them, do you kno if they were the mixed team durin team tennis (regional)
TheAce
I was told they didnt play together in all the matches.. I think they might of some, but i am not sure, because i know they didnt play together in all their regional matches.
maverickx
Hey guys. Lorren and Patrick didn't play mixed during regionals. It was the only tournament they haven't. Ace is right, they've done very well together in mixed divisions. They won a tournament that had Highland Park and Plano teams in there.

Coach - yep they are both supers. Lorren is a junior and Patrick is a sophomore. Both have definitely put in the work it takes to be a super. They should definitely be lindale's strongest players next year.
t4tennis2
the team of lorren and patrick did not lose to white oak...they didnt play together at all during regionals....just fyi....
lifetroll5000
I think Kilgore has two teams that will most likely make it to regionals, one that hasn't lost a match i believe. Most of the teams in that district don't even have a team that's going to play for district (in mixed).

i thought that the team of Lorren and Patrick won the texas high tourn.......????
Tennisaggie10
Ya..im pretty sure that those 2 won it. They beat Andy and Whitehead from Lee in the semis and pretty much dominated Jynx in the finals.

BTW...The REAL Mixed team killed them this Friday at the Van tourn. They won it. (Not suprising)

Who will make it out of region in mixed?
t4tennis2
Im sure the team Lorren and Patrick will. and its goin to be interseting to see the 2nd team to go will be. I think it will be between the van team and the white oak team. and iv heard the gladewater team is pretty good. so we shall see. its going to be tough i think to see who goes as the num 2.
2Cool4AUsername
o yeah, lorren and patrick are dominating (trust me, i know). Who is playing for Van? Is Nathan Johnson?
nd03td
Nathan Johnson and Holly Harrell. They are pretty good but Lindale should win it all. Wills Point's team lost to Van in 3 sets a couple of weeks ago. They are not bad.
Firestarter
I've heard that Gladewater mowed over wills point earlier this spring...so a Vandal/Bear match probably will determine who will be number 2
nd03td
They haven't been mowed over by anybody. I know that they have been beat by Corisicanna, Van x 2, and I think that the Gladewater match was close. If it was at the Spring Hill tournament then I wasn't able to make it to that one. But if I remember correctly they were down and came back.
Firestarter
ya 8-4 is pretty close
t4tennis2
what do you think the seeds will be for that region???
nd03td
I would say:
1. Lindale
2. Van
3. White Oak- If they are as good as everybody says they are.
4. Gladewater, I guess, since firecracker thinks they are so good.

Wills Point has a pretty good team and I have heard that Mt. Vernon had a team qualify other than that I don't know.

What about 4A?
Firestarter
hey hey hey i didnt mean to hurt your feelings "ndt w/e it is" if i insult you then im sorry i didn't mean to start the name calling game? (= oh yah an whiteoak doesn't have a mixed doubles team....?? so ya
t4tennis2
Why not? I know they did. It was there one boy and girl. What happened to them?
princegraphite
if you want to see who will be there, check out the new site...

www.texashighschooltennis.com

not a bad site...great idea
Firestarter
apparently they both went in singles, they got beat in a van tournament and i think thats what made them decide
t4tennis2
Talena and Dylan absolutly dominated regionals. And a big congrates to van for their 2nd place. I know they had to fight pretty hard for it.
t4tennis2
Does anyone know how Michael and Andy from REL did in their region?
postnup247
They got 2nd place, so they are also headed to state.
catnetter79
im thinking that lindale is 4a now? and lee/aldredge from spring hill already beat the mixed from gladewater this yr. and spring hill also tied van in a match without there no.1,3 and 4 guys
Headstrong
gladewater's mixed team isn't the same as last year...phinny and clay both graduated. in fact, most of gladewater's top players (including girls doubles team) graduated last year leaving this years team to be fairly young. there won't be any one or pair of gladewater players to "watch out for" this year.
coonorjelly7
ive got jacksonvilles mixed team doing well in our district and nachodoges should be pretty good of cause but then again highland park is in our region so tough to get to state with them in the way....
2Cool4AUsername
Gladewater has got a good team this year, but they are young. They lost a semifinal match that they had in total control, today, kel cates has great raw talent.
VolleyDoll
What tournament was today?
2Cool4AUsername
The Kilgore Tournament. Since this is a mixed doubles thread: 1st place was Hanna/ Bennett from Jacksonville, 2nd was the mixed doubles team from lufkin (number 1 boy and number 1 girl), 3rd was that team from Gladewater.
wiffinoudontseeit
Samuels and Reeves from Center look pretty good this year

them playing good together depends on if they are fighting or not because they get into it over simple things(samuels hit the ball out a few times and its on)
VolleyDoll
Who is playing mixed for Van this year?
THStennis
I'd watch out for the Lindale 1 mixed team. They should be a tough contender for regionals...but then again there is always HP.
