i think next year or the year after new braunfels win win state in 4A instead of highland park because the kids that train at Newcombe's (such as Ryan Harrison) will be eligible to play UIL tennis. i dont see highland park beating them then.

Are there any tennis players going to Division 1 colleges this year?
THSdude
yes Andy Pulido from texas high is going to vanderbilt
roxyball17
T-High for sure!

I'm not a big tennis fan but the doubles team of Jarvis and Humphrey from GS should go all the way to state as they do nearly every year. On the men's side GS has a fantastic player in Gentry who should also go to state in singles.

Watch out tennis world!! GS is coming!!

Jarvis and Humprey go to state every year? Wrong. Once each. As far as this year, they have a great chance of winning it all. They are both talented and if they can get out of regionals, should stand a fare chance. But they have to watch out for Mason. And, can they play together? As far as Gentry, he will probably not make it out of their region. He is a average player, with no weapons, and not a lot of confidence. Their region is tuff, and the boys state will be won by Klores from Franklin again. "Watch out world. GS is coming"?? Well, ok, but this is it for them, they have no up and comind players. Their boys are extremely weak this year. It is rebuilding time there. Hope some young players will dedicate to tennis only there.

In 4A, who will win mixed. I know The Texas High team will be tough, and Lorren/Patrick from Lindale will be good too.
breal07
J.J pearce has one of the top doubles teams in the nation...and nobdoy can compete with HP just to good...i play at greenville and they are crazy good

Class 3A Doubles.
Melanie Prince and Ashley Collier.
They lost to the state champs in the finals as Juniors.
They are now Seniors and are going to run the table.
pack07
Oh yeah they go to Spring Hill
Headstrong
Melanie and Ashley are both very talented players, I've played them plenty of times to know that they are unstoppable at the net. However I don't know if they've got what it takes to take the state title. To be honest I was a little suprised to see them get third in state. However I wish them the best of luck, they are both great girls.

Lorren/Patrick could take any mixed team from Texas High. THS girls can't match up to Talena's talent. I bet she could give half of the THS guys team a run for their money. Unless Andy decides to play mixed for THS (which I have heard rumors of), Lindale shouldn't have any problem passing them up.

HAHAHAHHA are you serious?? hahahah THS's top 2 girls are at her level, but they dont play mixed. THS's mixed team CAN beat them..... haha and you are crazy if you think she could beat half of THS's guys. HAHAHA that was a funny post.
VolleyDoll
I don't know THSdude, I don't think Hannah and Shannon are at Talena's level by any means. I've played all three of these girls and I only lost to Talena. She's tough. Hannah and Shannon have the potential she has but I don't think either one of them are as tough mentally or physically as her.

I'm actually thrilled to see a THS guy stick up for their female team mates. This hardly happens when I talk with them in person. Good job, it's about time you respect the other half of your team.

haha are YOU serious THS girl are no way any where near close to Talena's level...shes beatin them on numerous occasions...and fairly badly....and there is NO WAY! I REPEAT! NO WAY!! TH mixed doubles can beat Dylan and Talena...

unless they were to play left handed : )
EagleRose
VolleyDoll, what school do you attend? Also, Talena is a heck of a player, she has had some great coaching from the Lindale guys and her private lesson coaches. She hits the ball harder than almost any girl I have seen. But true, I dont know if she could beat T-highs top 4 boys, maybe 3 - 6 she will give a run, but the top 2 are class players. Dylan and Talena make a heck of a team, but they have to get through Highland Park this year, should be interesting.

I have played against both mixed teams, and without a doubt Lorren and Patrick are better than T. High's team.
goin4thagold
Ashley Collier & Melanie Prince from Spring Hill.
They are definitely goin to run the table. I agree with you pack07.

3A Doubles,

I think Atholi and Patterson have a pretty good chance of winning it all.
2Cool4AUsername
after the get ready, i have to say atholi and patterson do have a good chance at making it to state, as for the state championship, there's a lot of great dubs. teams in other regions.
VolleyDoll
Atholi and Patterson lost 8-2 to Robinson's top guys doubles team of Tucker Mueck and Jason Trayler (placed 3rd at state last year)at the team tennis tournament this year, and they are in their region. It will be interesting to see if Center can even get out of their region before they "win it all".

Speaking of Robinson, I'm counting on Mueck and Trayler to win state. I don't see anyone getting in the way of them this year.

Any thoughts?
gofortwo5
Mason and Comfort have some very good players as usual, Comfort should be looking to win a few titles as well as mason (as always) grand saline has about three players who should qualify for state UIL and the girls should have a chance at the title, and Gentry (men's singles) has improved in a lot of ways, and with Franklin switching regions he should make it to state, tennis is exciting this year for so many schools, i can't wait for the state tournament!
coonorjelly7
all of highland park team has a good chance...like ushual...and then texas high has a few guys...then nacadoghes has a good chance too...

^^^So much for that Eh? ^^^
Regardless i was watching the robinson match, and it was hard, considering we are friends and tucker was playing his heart out.. just wanted to let everyone know that he didnt give up one bit and i applaud him for it.
VolleyDoll
I'm glad someone brought this up...

Every year at the UIL state tennis championships there are 5 divisions in each of the 5 conferences. And every year there are 25 new state champions in the state of Texas. People have done it before you, and people will do it after you...it's a big accomplishment and you will be respected for that, and I respect each champion that. But the one person who earned my respect more than any other single tennis player at Lakeway, as well as the respect of all the hundreds of spectators watching on that stadium court on Monday morning, was Tucker Mueck. You're darn right when you say Tucker played his heart out. I've never seen anyone play with passion and heart like Tucker demonstrated during that match. I promise you he wanted that state championship more than anyone there, and everyone watching that match could tell by the way he played. Yeah, there are 25 new state champions, and there will be 25 new ones next year. And although Tucker has not YET experienced the feeling of being a state champion, he has experienced something that no other state champion might ever experiance. And that is the pure integrity of a heartful determined athlete with the will to win, not just the will to win but the will to give it his all, even if he didn't have it all. I've seen players cramp up at countless USTA tournaments, and I've also seen them carried off court mid-match because of the unbearable pain. I've cramped up in matches and gave up the second set because I didn't believe that I had the strength to fight back. Tucker, however, gave 110% for nearly an hour during the third set of his first round match under the most painful circumstance. This was not only an emotional match to play, but it was also an emotional match to watch.

Last night Tucker text messaged me these words exactly: "I know I lost on paper but laying down to a standing ovation was something i can't even describe. All the pain i felt was worth those 15 seconds."

There were 25 state champions who deserved the gold and left with the gold. Then there was Tucker and Jason who deserved the gold and didn't get it. Tucker may not have left Austin with a gold medal, but I guarentee you he left Austin with more than a gold medal. And I also guarentee you that this sophomore will be a gold medalist before he graduates. He's an amazing kid with an amazing heart and one heck of a tennis player. I wish I had his heart..

He played hard. And deserves a medal for heart. Is this kid in Zats/Champs/Supers?
VolleyDoll
He's a super in 16s

Great post VolleyDoll. As for highland park not impressed at all. They won't beat pearce in district team next year. I said it at regionals and i'm saying it now. I might even go watch that match, i'll be in Dallas next year. And i will rejoice, as HP will not win state next year!

3A: I'm going to predict that we will see a Spring Hill v. Van mixed doubles rematch in the state finals. They will definitely both be the toughest contenders in that draw. I'm thinking revenge?

Boys Singles: Nick Lehman- Vernon

Girls Singles: Nicole Long- Liberty

Girls Doubles: Cramer twins- Wylie

Boys Doubles: Tuck and Dan- Robinson

Those are my predictions. Although it's anybodys game at this point, I feel like these will be the toughest competitors for sure in each draw.

Opinions?
ybarratennis
Definetly Tucker and Daniel in boys doubles, i saw them play at regionals and it was impressive. Also that Liberty Hill team was pretty good, i was surprised by the talent that i saw.
Im boys singles i would have to say Mattew from Van over Nick from Vernon. I have played Matt 4 times and havn't come away victorious yet. He is a darn good player with tons of talent that can blow open any draw.

New Braunfels will be playing in Class 5A this coming season. BTW, Newcombe's Tennis Ranch has little to do with the Unicorns' success. I'm close friends with the NB tennis coach, and know this for a fact.

Looks like I missed on the mixed doubles but everything else looks about right smile.gif

I still thing Van should have been in that finals. I wasn't too impressed with the team that beat them...Argyle, who will actually be joining region 2 next season.

Congrats to tucker and daniel on your state championship, and i want to know where this nicole long girl come from who beat Brittni Fausett in the semis 7-5,6-2, and what grade is she in

Nicole is a freshman at Frisco Liberty--a freshman/sophomore school that has only been in existence for now two years. They will be 4A next season thanks to the realignment. She is a very impressive player. I watched her play Brittani and am so happy Nicole came out on top, she is very high class and definitely deserved that win (especially after the stuff Brittani tried to pull during that match). Nicole went on to beat Brooke Dennis, defending state champion, in the finals with a 0-6, 6-3, 6-3 score.

And to think I tried talking Tuck into playing singles this year--Tucker and Daniel are only juniors and will have a chance to defend their state title next season. thumbsup.gif
