Texas High begins in Fall Tennis season today in the Wichita Falls Rider tournament. The boys team appears to be strong but will definitely miss Andy Pullido. Daniel Moser has assumed the role of #1 boys. #2 position goes to Grant Adams, a freshman who is ranked #1 in Arkansas in the 14s. #3 position goes to Trey Brown who won district in the spring. That is good depth with the district champion playing #3. The remainder of the boys lineup appears to be solid tennis players.

The girls side of the team should improve due to their experience. Shannon Malaby is #1 with Hannah Smith and Jenna Markham. a freshman.

The team will get to compete this year on renovated courts and 3 new covered courts. While the court at Texas High have always been good, they have not been the most fan friendly. That aspect has been improved dramatically. Texas High hosts it fall tournament on Sept 7-8.

Even with the loss of Andy at #1, the Texas High boys will still be outstanding. I don't expect Grant to have any problem filling the shoes of the #2 spot. He is a very talented player and competitor, and not only is he #1 in 14s in Arkansas, he has recently beaten Arkansas' #1 player in the 16s division. He improves every time he steps out on that court so he will definately be one to watch his high school career. As for Daniel, still is, as he's always been a stud at tennis. I'm excited to see what all he'll do his final year.

As far as the girls go, they had several key players graduate last season, however they still have there 1 and 2. But as far as depth goes, the texas high girl's don't have alot of it.

Teamwise they should do just as well as they did last year. I dont know about any better or any worse. I guess we'll see as the season goes on. I'll definately try to make it to watch some of their fall tournament since there is always a good group of teams playing in it. Good luck this season to the team! I always like to see my former team do well.

hope they can take it a little further than last year. good luck

Texas High finished 4th at a very competitive tournament

Burkburnett W 10-0
Corsicana W 10-8 - (2006 #13 ranked 4A team)
Wichita Falls L 9-10 (2006 #9 ranked 4A team)
Amarillo Tascosa L 3-10 (2006 #16 ranked 5A team)

Season record 2-2

Next 8/30 at Nacogdoches in the Father/Son Classic. Can Little Watson finally beat the Old Man?
THStennis
The Nach T-High match will not be a father son battle. Coach's son has left Nach and has taken the coaching job at Lindale.
THStennis
The lost to Wichita Falls Old High was pretty devastating. We were up 4-3 after winning all 3 boy's doubles matches and mixed but we were unable to sweep the boy's singles...only winning 5 out of the 6. The Old High girl's were just way to solid all the way down and it came down to a newcomer on the varsity team at 9-9 and she was unable to close out her 3 setter.

Against Tascosa #1 and #3 boy's doubles won and boy's #1 singles won. It was a tough match coming off the 4+ hour a.m. match against Old High and many of the boy's side was suffering from pretty bad cramps...needless to say that match did not take long. Tascosa is a great 5a team.

Hopefully we will do better as the year progresses.

Texas High was up 8-1 when play was suspended by rain versus Nacogdoches on 8/30

TH #1 hasn't played the Nach #1 yet because Nach pulled out because with a shoulder injury. However the #2 TH boy was up on the Nach #1 6-1 3-0 I believe when the match was suspended due to rain.

So Janira (#1 MP) beat Hannah? That's interesting. Janira is a very good player and plays a much better game every time I see her play. I have yet to see her this year though.

I think Texas High as 2 periods of tennis. One for JV and one for Varsity. They also have 3 periods for the middle school. Being a good team just doesn't happen. I think kids in the elementary school level get involved in USTA program because Texas High has kept tennis in the papers in Texarkana. There has been residual benefits to the other 3 schools in Texarkana.

When I moved to Texarkana, Longview was considered to be the hot bed of tennis followed by Tyler. I think those cities have seen a decline in tennis and Texarkana has maintained.

But thank you for pointing out to all the world the blueprint to Texas High's success.
Bulldogtennis
Yeah, Longview is definately not a hot bed for tennis anymore. Tyler still has a very strong tennis community. Longview just doesn't have any tennis clubs that promote tennis very much. Most of the tennis in Longview is played at local high schools.
bordertown
Texarkana has two country clubs that have I believe 5 teaching pros.
VolleyDoll
Texas High beats Lindale 10-7 i believe.

Texas High has now won 18 straight district Team Tennis titles dating back to the Fall of 1990. That was the year Texas High dropped to 4A.

Congrats to Lindale. I spent a little bit of time out at the courts and it was quite an atmosphere for tennis. You could tell both teams wanted the win real bad.

How'd Daniel and Grant do against Dylan and Corbin? And what about the boys doubles?

Dan won easily over Dylan 0 and 0...I think dylan had an injury to his right wrist.
I sat out of the doubles so Trey Brown played with Dan...they won 1 and 1...but me sitting out hurt our 2 team we had to bring a guy up that played 3 and they lost 6-4 in the 3rd I believe...as far as Grant went I think he cruised in singles.

A regionals Texas High was the 4th seed. Today they beat Copperas Cove 10-4 and Midalothian 10-1. Play Highland Park in the morning. They need some food poisoning tonight for the HP team to advance to the finals.
VolleyDoll
CONGRATULATIONS Texas High for placing THIRD at regionals by defeating Corsicane 10-9 for third place.

Texas High lost to HP 10-0 in the semis, but managed to beat Corsicana (whom they have beat, but also lost to earlier this fall) in the following match for third.

Congrats on an impressive 15-4 season!

congrats to the tigers! i talked to a couple of the Tiger netters and they attribute the loss to three things.

1. hard to focus with all the bagpipes going
2. mixed doubles game plan of "hit it to the girl" was thrown off because the hp boys and their kilts
3. "black sox" scandal relived....except we'll call this one the "yellow and blue knee high argyle sox" scandal

congrats to the scots
CEC123
well it looks like the train has to stop somewhere...good job texas high...hp is pretty tough
THStennis
Our #1 boy's and #2 boy's doubles played HP extremely tough and had chances to pull ahead during both matches.
#1 dubs lost 7-5, 6-4 to Max Stevens and his partner.
#2 dubs lost 4-6, 6-3, 7-6(4)
We didn't have time to put any of the top 4 guys on for singles because HP had already massacred our girls...we were pretty lucky to finish the guys doubles matches we had on...5 minutes after we were off time was called...it doesn't matter how good a guys team you have...their girls own!

This is true! I was looking at the complete results in todays paper and their #6 girl is #96 in the nation and #7 in Texas according to Tennisrecruiting.net--and that's just plain CRAZY! I've seen their #6 play and don't want to imagine what the top 5 girls on that team could do!
