When will the UIL announce realignment and will the changes, if there are any, take effect for the 2008 football season? Is it too late to lobby for change? Whoever put the current system together needs to come ride a big yellow school bus from Carthage to Crockett, Diboll or Huntington some Thursday or Friday night. The trip to Crockett is especially perilous because half the trip is on a two-lane, hilly, curvy highway through the Davy Crockett National Forest. Even with a 5:30 game start, it was nearly midnight by the time our junior high kids arrived back at the school after the game. It seems crazy to drive that far south when we have so many schools much closer.

The U.I.L. re-alignments will come out the first of February (don't know the exact date).
Yes, they take affect for the years 2008 through the end of 2010 school years (two years)...then realignment again.
And no, I doubt there is any time for any "lobbying," although some schools usualy appeal their placement in the alignment.
Your school might want to start your junior high games a little earlier than 5:30 if they are getting home too late.

If you start games too early, many parents will not be able to go.

What is ridiculous are the schools that do not have either a 7th or a 9th grade team think they can play 3 games at one school on Thursday night, and still get home at a reasonable hour. They play a 8
th ,9
th , JV or a 7
th 8
th , and JV at one school. It is the time between games not the length of quarters they make a night long..

There is no "lobbying" prior to the UIL announcing the new realignments (Feb. 1 in 2008). The CIA could learn a thing or two from the UIL about keeping secrets! By the way, there will always be some wide-spread districts simply because Texas is so big. For example, for many years Lufkin and Texas High (Texarkana) were in the same district.

East Texas teams do not know the meaning of travel. They should check out some of the West Texas teams distance.
Bulldogfan was complaining about distance between Carthage and Crockett. I was pointing out that that not all the dummies got on the UIL. Some were left to schedule 3 games on one night then want to cut 2 minutes off each quarter of one game and think they can get the students home early on a school night. Not even the ones in the district where the games are played can get home early.
