The black # 1 Chevy belonging to DEI sat forlornly under a car cover in the auxiliary garage area Thursday afternoon at Daytona International Speedway, and with it, perhaps the Chase for the Sprint Cup chances for Martin Truex Jr.

NASCAR officials impounded Truex's Sprint Cup car after it repeatedly failed pre-practice technical inspection. According to NASCAR spokesman Kerry Tharp, the car's roof did not fit the mandatory templates.

Man Ifeel sorry for the #1 team...You know come Monday or Tuesday they are going to lower the boom on them. It's so tough for these guys because they try and find anything that will help them out aero wise. They massage these cars to try anything to get an aero advantage. Now, having said that when you're template does not fit well, it doesn't fit!! I was watching Speed yesterday and they were talking about how some of the team actually put like a laquer over the decals on the cars so that there is no wind drag. They look at everything don't they!!! lol
