At Lap 55
thumbdown.gif The tires goodyear brought to Indy are a joke! 12 to 15 laps or so on a run is just crazy, lets hope nobody gets killed. Several good cars have already blew tires and ripped the whole side of the car off, I don't just mean torn up, I mean the tire BLEW OFF a third of the flipping car from the B & C post to the back bumper, GONE.

Tires stamped for Pocono sent to Indy, on stand-by / Competition cautions will be used to monitor situation.

NASCAR and Goodyear, anticipating possible tire issues in Sunday's Allstate 400 at the Brickyard, had 400 sets of tires intended for use next weekend at Pocono Raceway brought to Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

NASCAR will begin evaluating the need for a tire switch when a "competition caution" is thrown at Lap 10 of the 160-lap race. NASCAR vice president of competition Robin Pemberton said on Sunday morning he anticipated additional planned cautions.

You know the race at Indy is usually boring until about the last 20 laps, but today was just brutal, it was a joke. When a guy that is 16 laps down gets the lucky dog because everybody else has already got it.

Great idea not letting the teams test! When they did the tire test, they should have let all the teams get a test. Instead we got ten laps and a caution, and repeat. I am ready for Bristol. Those tires today were just horrible.

hmm.gif Think about this a second........remember a few weeks back when the rear tires were yawed out several more degrees and the cars when down the track in a crab walk, now that would have been a disaster. Also we don't have to pay for those crappy tires at $1700.00 a set x 10 or 15 sets for the weekend..........thats 25000.00 + x how ever many teams you have like Hendrick with 4 and roush with 5 teams. Man that hurts.

I would like thank NASCAR for their new idea of fan comfort.........the 10 lap stretch.

Usually I am all over Goodyear. This time though I think NASCAR is holding the biggest load. Teams wanted to test for a reason. Also the rack officials need to not make the surface quite so rough. To much diamond cutting at the Brickyard.
Mostly though NASCAR blew it.

The question is... Can they resurface it and not cause issues for the open wheel cars? If not then that track will never change. That place belongs to the Indy car folks. NASCAR has got to tweak the load transfer on the new car. The old car, apparently, neutralized the load going through the corner. The COT dumps it all on the right rear. Also, there has to be some research into why the tires were dusting vs. sticking to the track. The way I understand it that is not what typically happens. All that together and you get a very boring race.
BGR
An absolute horrendous mess of a 10 or so lap sprint and pit race. I think it is time for Hoosier to be let back in to NASCAR and give Goodyear some "friendly" competition.

I think you are right BGR, the last few years the tires have been a really big issue. I also understand the new car is way......different on tires, the tires Goodyear brought to Indy weren't even the same tires that they tested at the tire test. There should be a way to counter the roll angle that is causing the excessive wear on the right side tires. Tony Stewart said during his radio show that normally he'd be all over Goodyear, but he's not sure it's all their fault. The track, Nascar and the teams surely weight into the equation. He did say that he had never seen the tire dust like this ever before, it was in his suite in the grandstands even all over his car in the parking lot........"that was weird" he said.
