Am i the only one disgusted by MMA? Something about watching people beat the tar out of each other until KO and punching each other on the ground makes me sick. Maybe the main reason i hate it so much is because it's just a bunch of meatheads, and i sure do hate meatheads.

Anyway, i would just like to hear some thoughts by other people. I hope I'm not alone in my feelings.

Don't watch it.

I second that you are alone

You are alone in every sense of the word, more than likely. Go play with your Barbies, cupcake.

I agree with Original Poster...MMA, or UFC, or whatever these neanderthals call it, is disgusting and a complete joke.

The fighters are just no talent meatheads who don't have the skill to box, because if they did they would be in the boxing ring where the real athletes are (and the Millionaires are). If any of those guys had to put on the gloves and get in the ring with a real boxer like Kelly Pavlik or Antonio Margarito (and they couldn't kick and use leg holds etc.) they would get destroyed.

It doesn't surprise me that this so-called "sport" is as popular as it is however, keep in mind this is the same Country where millions of these same "intellectuals" watch cars take left turns for hours on end every weekend.

Is it surprising that so many kids in this Country can't find Delaware on a map?...They are the offspring of a Nascar and UFC watching Nation.

If cavemen want to watch other cavemen bash each other (I do), let em, change the channel... There's not 200+ channels for nothin, you don't hafta watch Nascar or MMA... There are several channels devoted to covering subjects on your level, you got Lifetime, E!, Oxygen, VH1, Noggin just to name a few !!

The days of 3, 6 & 12 are over... If thats all you have, then read a book, my G-ma enjoys romance novels, give them a try !!

Of course you agree with the original poster, ColonelRowe... You are that chic.

BTW, the worst MMA athlete would absolutely distroy your boxers. whome.gif

I'd bet the farm the colonel and discreet look at each other in the mirror.

Oh really...I guess that is why they are toiling around in some second tier sport getting there heads bashed in for peanuts, while Kelly Pavlik is already a multi-millionaire in his mid 20's...that makes a lot of sense....they must be smart....like you.

UFC/MMA is one step away from Roman gladiators. Given the blood rule, e.g. out of the event until bleeding is wrapped and covered, in other sports caused by HIV concerns, why does this circus not have the same rule?

These fights play to packed houses. To say one comment on these boards prove anything is ludicrous.

If you don't like the fights, don't watch. Otherwise, quit whining.

My, how mature.

You, little girl, get squeamish at the site of blood and feats of skill and strength, yet you abuse goats on a regular basis. How disturbing.

Does the cult-master know you're running his goats off?

Both people that thought it was stupid have now been banned. I have a friend that thought MMA was stupid, till she actually sat down and watch a fight and then started dating a fighter. She now loves it and says there is no other sport like it. When she dated the fighter she saw the commitment he made to every aspect of fighting (ground work, boxing, muay thai). The great thing about MMA is there is no idiot up there with spiked hair trying to turn the fights into a sideshow. The fighters respect each other and respect the sport. The meatheads are the boxers, they only train at one thing, standing there and knocking the mess out of one another. MMA guys train at many different disciplines. You may have bricks for hands but if your jiu jistu is weak you are going to get tapped or choked. There is also the conditioning factor, boxers hold when they get rocked or get tired, do that in MMA and you will end up on your back in guard, if you are lucky. There is no hiding in MMA they don't have standing 8 counts and stuff like that.

Both those banned are the same guy, jrowe. He'd tap in under 3 seconds.

And to say they fight for peanuts is STUPID!
Bballer073001
Wow cant understand how someone comes on here and bashes a sport like this. I like watching the fights its alot better than just watching two guys run from each other for 12 rounds. Very seldom do you hear the crowd get mad at one of the mma fights. ITs non stop getting after it. As for the Nascar jab that is just un American to say that. I doudt either one of the two that got banned could hold a candle to any of the drivers out there. Just 2 people stirring the pot.
stoneykelly
people just looking to start a fight. ask people who the heavywight champion of the world in boxing is compared to mma, and see who has more correct answers.

MMA fighters are Meatheads?

- Maybe it's just me but it seems to take a lot more dedication to learn multiple disciplines INCLUDING boxing.

Also boxing is the MOST barbaric sport in the world. Ask yourself two questions.

1. How many people have died from MMA?
2. How many people have suffered brain damage from MMA?

I truly think someone needs to do their homework before they bash a sport. At the first hint of trouble a MMA fight is stopped. Also the longest fights go only 5 rounds unlike boxing which are atleast 12 of head pounding action. As a matter of fact this is how barbaric you boxing fans are. You hail Ali/Fraizier 3 as one of the best fights of all time and Frazier almost DIED in that match. If he would have came out for that last round he had a VERY good chance of dying.

Like it or not, MMA continues to be the fastest growing sport in America.

East Texas has two very talented MMA athletes, Derrick Krantz out of Marshall and Booker Arthur from Rusk.

I've only watched a few fights, but they have been enjoyable.....
jaykay08
I can't bash MMA because those guys are a lot braver than I am! It takes a lot of guts and strength, mentally and physically, to do what they do. You go guys!

I went and witnessed my first "live" event this past weekend at the Oil Palace. I have nothing but positive things to say about the participants. The production, on the other hand, was a complete joke.

To begin with, first punch was not thrown until almost 07:45 pm. This would have been fine if the matches were set to begin at 07:30 pm. Unfortunately, the start time was scheduled for 6:00 pm. We finally received an update from "Joe Announcer" about 7:15 pm.

Two of the matches ended in complete silence because no one (other than the referee) knew what had happened. We finally were able to figure it out when the victorious fighter stood up celebrating.

The announcer literally requested 20 times that officials of the promotion come back to ringside so that the event could start and/or proceed. What it was they had better to do, I do not know.

There needed to be an extra team of EMTs there because there evidently is a requirement that two be ringside while the matches are going on. The show was further delayed when someone from the promotion needed medical attention. I can't fault him for that, but you'd think there would be contingencies in place for just that type of scenario.

And finally, this show was never billed as a showcase or "recital" for the local MMA gym. I had no grand illusions of UFC PPV quality, but I fulled expected matches between two opponents that seasoned and experienced. Every match, except the main event, consisted of two fighters that could tally their number of fights on one hand.

For cage-side seats at $65 apiece, I expected a heckuva lot more from the production. Again, I take nothing away from the fighters themselves. They did their best to succeed and put on a good show.

The production, though, was embarrassing and I would never pay to go to another one of their shows.

I have never been to an event, but I have always thought it would be best to watch from the living room.

Firstly, I am 22 years old, as I have found MMA to be better liked by younger people, and boxing to be more of an older mans sport.

I do not have any problems with the brutalityl level in either sport. I find MMA to have minor moments when a fighter is grounded and receiveing head shots that I can not watch it. I experience the same when a fighter is out on his feet in boxing.

MMA to me is a bit slower paced.........I know people are going to be like how in the heck can you say that. The truth is if you watch top professional boxers, the action is intense from round 1 and is usually a slugfest. In MMA with the top tier the styles have to matchup well to have a good fight. For instance I watched the Rich Franklin vs W. Silva a few weeks ago and was bored to tears. Boxing to me is more consistent with its top fighters having exciting matches.

MMA posses a much deeper talent pool from top to bottom, where as boxing talent is in the 135-155 area mainly, with a scattered decent fighter at other weights.

MMA is on regular TV a lot, where as boxing only is on for friday ngiht fights, and FNF typically has super boring fights.

MMA also has WEC which comes on VS. and has the best 145 and 135 pound fighters in the world on it, you can see a fight like Urijah Faber vs. Mike Brown for free...........in equivelence that would be like seeing PBF and Pacman for free.....

The truth is between the two I much more enjoy two top boxers then I do two top MMA fighters, however I can not watch two below average boxers, but can still enjoy a couple of low tier MMA fighters.

Watch em both, like em both.

Ponder on that while you get you nails done or put on your guy liner.

I don't care for MMA because of the lock ups. Just as boxing has become today, it's a bunch of hugging and trying to hit someone in the back of the head. Instead of standing up, they're on the floor. I could care less for Greco-Roman wrestling.

I'd rather see a knockout or a knock down, than MMA. Seperate them, and let them go at it again. I don't think it's too violent. I'd rather see more punches and kicks to the head like Muay Thai.
thefallen
just my two cents...

I would hardly call MMA two neanderthals bashing each others heads in. A lot of MMA fighter have college degrees and are quite intelligent people. No disrespect to boxing (I enjoy watching both by the way) but MMA is more versatile as there are different ways to win and there are more areas as to where the fight can go. MMA does not only involve boxing, you have jujitsu, muay thai, kickboxing, judo, sambo, and a ton of other combat or martial arts. MMA is still a young sport and it will take time for people to get used to it or accept it like boxing. I would hardly call the fighters in the sport no talent. There is a lot of work that goes into preparing for a fight. Fighters invest a lot of time and effort into preparing for a fight. Maybe one day you will change your mind, maybe you won't....
