Union Grove has been the most consistent band, and is always good. UG currently has 17 sweepstakes in a row and has been to state marching twice in the past 5 years. They also got 4th in honor band a couple of years ago (which 1st and 4th were only separated by very few points).

I'll agree with that 100%. QC has a fantastic band. Very hard to judge Corp vs. Military though. I am a proud member of the football team and band and march at halftime even though I believe it makes some folks mad. But the way I see it I have a commitment to both the football team and the band.
I was a little upset we didn't get to see QC march this year since we played on different days. I always love watching QC

That is great to see that you do both. You are blessed to have a coach that allows that. All of my varsity fb players (six of them) march at half-time and then go to the locker room. I am sure that Mr. Melton is glad to have a band member like you that is committed to all the things they do.

I totally agree with this. The corps performance by Queen City is absolutely awesome. The pride and genuine pleasure of participating in that band shines bright when they are on the field and the stands.
Union Grove is an excellent military performer with great precision, timing and execution. The band members show their pride well too.
Both bands are fun to watch and the members seem to have a lot of fun. Congratulations to both band directors of UG and QC on an excellent job of teaching and directing.
Strangest band performance would have to be Daingerfield. Saw them perform at home and at the Yamboree. Some that are more familiar with the corps style may understand it but I was clueless about this performance.

Abernathy is always great. Stockdale is always up there when it comes to shear volume and Kountze is just so smooth.

It was a close contest for that honor band spot. At every level the same recordings were ranked different by the judges. Union Grove ranked 1st at Area (higher than QC), but 4th at state (lower than QC). It all depends on what the judges like.

So it wasn't really close at the state level...which is where it counts by the way.

I believe the point was that it all really just depended on what the judges liked. Therefore implying that Queen City was lucky that the judges at state didn't care for the same things as the judges at the Area level did.

I go with queen city-corpELYSIAN FIELDS Military Because EF is a band that has been marching military style for 4 years and we are progressing! This year at the UIL marching contest we made school history! Our ratings was 1 1 1...we were so happy on that day! I will never for get the day of October 22 2008. Cause all the hard work paid of this year. Since Ty hood came to EF, the band has been heading in a positive direction! The band went from 12 people to 50. So mr hood keep up the good work! This year we are trying to get our first sweepstakes in school history. If we get it this year (my senior year) will be the best ever!

I agree, EF has done a great job since they switched, and in that short of time too is just amazing. My top 3 would have to be EF, Dekalb, and Queen city (not in that order). they all had a great year last year, and its looks like, as they progress, they will continue to be extremely successful.

Let's take a look at white oak now. I think they are progressing well and finally made sweepstakes with Jason Steele and his new team of directors that are with him. They are going to be a force to be reckoned with pretty soon I think.

first of all you guys are not even thinking about the other 2A bands in the state.
queen city and union grove are not the only 2A schools in the state.
with that being said at this moment and time Union Grove has the best program....
JH honor band and after this years UIL performance id assume the HS will be in the think of things considering they did a grade 4 program. No other 2A band in the state or region 4 for that matter can say they played a program like that....

That's true, white oak just didn't have a teacher that pushed them hard enough it the past. It looks like from what I see sitting in the stands that they are getting a real sense of pride and are getting good results now. Maybe one day they will be at the top like White Oak was a long time ago

This upcoming year is gonna be interesting with the bands. UG just graduated a lot of good seniors, not to mention our all-state tuba player T.J. Delaney. There are a lot of good players coming up from that MS all state band. I think the fans will be in for a treat in the upcoming year of performances. Not sure about the other bands in the area, but I'm sure there are gonna be a good amount of quality bands in marching contests this year.
