Saw QC this year at UIL...it is decent...but not even close to where they were the past 3 years.
JPS
I would have the highest degree of respect for the QC band if it wasn't for the parents. They leave a sour taste in your mouth when they walk past other band parents holding up their first finger in the symbol of a 1. Especially when other kids and other bands work just as hard. (not to count out the QC kids)

I remember seeing Queen City at a football game. They were pretty good, especially their music. Also, the band kids themselves were pretty nice. Some bands are a bit rude, but I have respect for QC for being a friendly band. Congratulations QC on all 1's.

It's funny that you say that because I have heard many prominent people in the band world say that they were cleaner this year than last. I feel that after a band has such a successful year people wait anxiously for them to fail...

That being said, I only saw them once early in the season, so I don't know. But I do respect the opinions of those that I have spoken with.

I'm going to have to agree with Johnny. Still a great band, but not near the band they were. They should still do fine next year at 2A State contest.

As far as the guy who said they have a spot reserved... You are obviously from Queen City, just because yall are the defending 2A champions dosen't automatically get you a spot. You have to earn it like everyone else.

i saw queen city band at dfield and this BY FAR is the best tuba and percusion section I have ever heard.

agreed. Some QC-ers are a little too cocky, although QC band is great. I was personally a little dissapointed with the intensity and overall energy of this year's show. I know QC has a good program though, and I am interested to see what they come up with next year. Good luck!

I saw the QC band @ Pitt this year, they did put on a good show. Maybe some of the band parents are a little cocky, but what else do they have to brag about? The football team? NOT!
Just a word of advice, don't get too over confident, never can tell what may happen. Just because QC is the 2A defending state champ does'nt mean that there might be someon a little better! Look at Canton this year. Good luck next year!

I agree with you completly. We have had a few problems with the students and parents of QC. I admire their work, but they need to work on their humility. Another band that has the same problem is the Atlanta band. Although I have a lot of respect for the students and directors of the Atlanta band, their parents can be a bit rude to other schools.

To the guy who started this thread: You need to watch what you say especially when you make comments like "They already have the field reserved for next year."

I personally know that Mr. Brannan would not take too kindly to his kids acting like that.

You guys are good and you guys will have another successful year next year, but take it from someone who has been there... Everything that band has accomplished over the past few years those kids have worked very hard for and EARNED it every single step of the way.

Do not taint the reputation you guys have by getting "big headed". Everyone looks at y'all as being talented and a pretty classy group of kids, which is a lot more than a lot of them say about the band 2 miles down the road.

You guys need a little bit of humility -- the higher you are, the farther you have to fall.

I love you guys and I look forward to next fall and seeing you guys throw out another fabulous show.

And what exactly are "a lot of them" saying about the band two miles down the road? Because all of the Region 4 band directors I know, which is all of them, have nothing but compliments and after this season the community and parent support is nothing but positive and has been for the past 4 yrs or so. I even personally know several Region 21 directors.

Perhaps you're trying to invent a reality that you would like to see? But the reality is that whatever bad blood ATL and QC had back in the 90's is long gone...none of those directors or kids have anything to do with the programs...and haven't in many years. Atlanta had one of their most successful marching seasons in probably the history of the program reaching 5th at the 3A state finals and I can tell you those kids worked just as hard as anyone, and had nothing given to them. And as far as I know went about their business in nothing but a classy manner.

If you have any more to say on the subject I would suggest you please contact me through private message. I am fairly certain my ear is on a more accurate grapevine than yours...

Well you thought wrong when i said We have Reserved the field in the Alamodome. Is not a smack talk...And yeah I know that Mr. Brannan wouldn't take it too kindy IF I TOOK IT THAT WAY...Cause what i meant is that I have faith in The Queen City Band will make it to the Alamodome again. And Also I have been there...I know how it feels to get that gold medal around your neck...And I am not "Big Headed" because I know that when Atlanta went to State this year...I was right there cheering for them..For a Win! That would just mean that this is the strongest area of bands! Thats the way I think of it. Everyone should be a winner!
DonnyDoubleTounge
I personally think that Atlanta does carry about there business in a rather classy manner. They cheer for the kids success what is wrong with that? QC on the other hand...the parents should deffinantly work on their humility. Cheer for your kids when they do well, but there is a fine line. Dont be so snooty.

While i personally know all of the Directors as well, I was not referring to them when I spoke of th way some of the community views the Atlanta kids. I am not trying to relive the days of the 90's when there was bad blood. I am just speaking from personal experience... that does not necessarily mean it is a collective whole.

Which community? And view of the band kids? or Atlanta H.S. kids in general?

Because I can tell you there is a big difference between the two.

Of the 330 kids at AMS there are probably 250 kids in the program...and pretty soon those numbers are gonna start moving to the h.s. So apparently there is a pretty positive community view towards the AMS/AHS program.

man give the kidsa a break. their team went 1-9 and they got a darn good band. dont be jeolous, be supportive.

I personally, as a student, dont understand the whole "bad blood" situation between Atlanta and QC. I think as a whole, neither band has bad blood towards the other. There are just a few individuals from both bands that can make either side look ridiculous at times. and i agree, there are parents on both sides that need to have some class and watch how they represent the band. it makes me sooo mad when parents talk snooty to other bands and i hear of it from a member of the other band. its downright embarrasing. so hopefully the bands see eye to eye on this issue. Any QC-ers out there that do?
brotherb2010
Thanks to all yall for the compliments. I'm one of the captains of the drumline this year. We try to keep cockiness toned down. And let me be the first to apologize for our parents. I know my parents have gone way too far into band land, but they cheer for every band not just ours. So i apologize for their behavior
