So what can we do to encourage the extinction of military bands or at least go ahead and push them over the cliff? It sure seems like East Texas is behind the times and needs to catch up to the last millinneum. Hello, Sousa died in 1932. KL King died in 1971. Henry Fillmore died in 1956. --And the list goes on. I think it would stop all of the complaining, whining, and griping about which one (corps or military) is best. If people could get their heads out of the past and catch up, we could just move on from the same 120 bpm and same quick-step marches year after year. The counter-march is dead. Embrace the slide.

I think you really need to get over yourself with the "extinction" of military bands. IT AINT GONNA HAPPEN. Go tell that to Texas A&M, and i dont really think YOU can get them to turn into a "corps" or "core" band. So quit bashing on military bands and get a life.

Military style is here to stay!

Narrow-minded, aren't you, JPS? Some things need to stay - military-style marching and playing are two of them. If a military band marches onto the field, go to the concession stand or to the restroom. Nobody is making you stay and watch. I will never get into a battle about which is better. I have the ability to enjoy both styles. I also know when a band is good and when it isn't - and that goes for corps an military.

If you started this to get military people angry, you will probably fail. We have better discipline than that.

Military is way more disciplined than core. When a military band is marching if one person makes even a tiny mistake it is extremely noticable. Most of the time you can't even tell if somebody is out of step in a core band.

I agree that Drum Corps style bands (and Military) need dicipline. Anyone who has been out on the field knows both require it. The only difference is STYLE.
If Style is what is being discussed, everyone can have an opinion, and no one can be wrong. It's all a matter of what YOU like.
Be careful about the tone you use, and the maturity of your chosen words. If you come off wrong, here you get no respect for your opinions, especially when you get too emotional and irrational.
State an honest opinion, and back it with fact, if needed. The mere Title of your topic is trolling for trouble, so beware.

By the way, so you know where I stand, I am a big DCI fan. Marched it for 8 years, college and high school. I love it. Follow corps during the season, the whole bit.
That for me, however, does not make Military style something to despise or put down as inferior. It was a new art form to me, and I have grown to appreciate it, and even learn how to discern when one Military band is better than another.
Your opinion may be respected more if you adjust the way you make a point.

Joins SDC and comes right in to stir up trouble......Military is far greater than any other style. The kids in my daughters band would pass out and die if they had to actually march. The band director would have to get off his.........well..........the work ethic would have to go up.

no matter what you say, or what u do there will always be plenty of military bands if u dont belive me look at a nammb list you can say its a "dieing breed" but millitary will allways be there it iwll never go exctinct!

well i'm talking about stuff i know nothing about, but hallsville's band was pretty darn good and i think they were military.

Shame on you for thinking that the death of these men should result in the death of their style. Shame on you for telling us to "embrace the slide" when you can't "embrace" the style of military.
Just because everyone else is changing to core doesn't mean we have to. Many people are doing drugs too. Why don't we "get with the times" and take life-threatening substances so that we can fit it?

So you're so upset over the arguments about which style is better? We're all entitled to our opinions. I won't bash core style because I do like core. But honestly, sticking with the tradition of military style marching isn't killing anyone, so I don't see why it should become "extinct".

Polar bears, panda bears, the black-footed ferret, and many other animals are endangered. Why don't we kill them too? I thought people tried to preserve endangered things. I guess I better "get my head out of the past". Military is greatly outumbered by core bands. We have to preserve some old traditions, don't we? There are enough core bands to go around. Quit sulking because not everyone else is like you. You want to encourage the extinction of military bands? Here's what you do: nothing. You stick with your style and we'll stick with ours.

Let me put in my two cents worth here. First, East Texas isn't the only place with military style bands. Let's look at... San Antonio... Alabama, etc. Both are great, and they are both challenging and have advantages and disadvantages. If i were to pick, it'd be military.

military bands aint going nowhere EVER.....if u put unbiased judges on field against the best miltary and the best corp band out there.........military would destory the corp band........without a doubt
