If volleyball was to be removed from UIL sporting events, what would be a good girls fall sport that could take its place?

I'm not sure........ Answer this........ If football was removed from UIL sporting events what would be a good boy's fall sport to take its place?

I don't know why anyone would want to remove it at all.
What I wouldn't mind seeing is it swapping places with softball.
Softball, good weather, outdoor sport...fall.
Volleyball, indoor sport....bad weather.....winter and early spring.
Any other opinions.

There was a time, back in the day, when volleyball was in the spring.

GREAT IDEA! I can't stand all of the rain-outs in the spring.

I think everyone just wants to know why you asked the question in the first place. I think Manu had a point. If you want to call people morons then go ahead but the question itself was pretty moronic.

Did you REALLY expect an answer to that question? I have played the AWESOME game of VOLLEYBALL since 6th Grade - college, officiated for 10 years, and coached the AWESOME game of VOLLEYBALL for 20 years; are you just looking for a fight!!!
I would NEVER go on a football thread and ask what would we do in Texas from August till one week before Christmas on Friday nights if it wasn't for football. By the way, I am also a great fan of the game of football - I am always at a game watching my nephews play somewhere in Texas on a Friday night.
And I thought the Junior High students that I teach could ask some really weird questions.....

A couple thoughts: This is Texas and football is king. Neither baseball nor any other major boys sport could possibly be allowed to compete with football in the fall. Therefore, baseball must be in the spring. With baseball in the spring, it probably seemed logical to have softball in the spring. It was stated earlier that vball used to be in the spring. Maybe it was moved to fall when softball became a UIL sport - I don't know.
The general consensus seems to be - fall weather good, spring weather bad. But consider the schedule for a "fall" sport. Vball workouts begin Aug 3, scrimmages Aug 7 and official matches Aug 10. There are a lot of tournaments played in August with district play starting early to mid-September. By the time it starts cooling off, most of the season is over. Would the softball players and their fans enjoy having the majority of games (and practices) in August and the first half of September? At least there wouldn't be very many rainouts ...
Vball in the spring? Given the current softball schedule (workouts begin Jan 26, scrimmages Feb 2 and official games Feb 16), there would be an awful lot of competition for gym space early on. Girls basketball runs through mid-Feb. and boys about a week later. Plus possible playoffs.
My point is that it must be a very difficult balancing act to schedule all of the UIL sports.
Finally, I would encourage all softball fans who are tired of rainouts to get out and watch the local soccer team. The soccer season runs from about Jan 2 or 3 through Spring Break. There are few if any rainouts, but games have been called on account of: lightning, icy roads and power failures due to ice storms. Games are played in rain, sleet and even snow. Game time temperatures are routinely in the 40s. 30s are common and 20s are not unheard of. It would be nice if soccer could be played in the fall, but the first sentence of this post makes it clear why this will never happen.

Exactly - the gym space problem would kill VB in the spring, although I am sure many basketball coaches around the state would love for the volleyball coaches to have to wait on their players. Shoe on the other foot.

What's the matter sting, you got SWS? softball withdraw sysdrom. Hey, 5 more months. you can hold on, babe. Go to the doc, get some chill pills and just hang on. I promise ya, it'll be here before you know it. Then you can talk about the one thing you really enjoy. Don't open the mouth and remove all doubt for everyone to see.

There are probably over a hundred schools across the state that do not play volleyball. I guess those kids can run cross country.

Sort of like you just did "Chill Pill" boy? I think, considering people are still talking about it a year later, it is a good conversational question. And what does softball have to do with anything?
