A male cougar shot by police after it went into a Bossier City neighborhood did not appear ill, state wildlife officials said after completing a necropsy.

Maria Davidson, manager of the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries large carnivore program, said the examination didn't find obvious medical problems. It could be several weeks before conclusive test results are completed, she said.

The cougar is rare in Louisiana. The one was killed Sunday afternoon as it came down a tree outside a house on Whittington Street after being shot with a tranquilizer dart. Wildlife agents said the animal was aggressive and asked police to kill it.

Tranquilizers don't take effect immediately, Davidson said, and the animal was probably reacting to the dart sting.

From wear on its paw pads, Davidson said the cougar probably was wild rather than escaped or released from captivity.

I saw that on the news the other night! That is crazy! The guy thought it was a lion up in the tree. His kids were in the backyard playing.

With the distances that they are known to travel, it could have easily migrated over there from here in Texas or somewhere else in La. They are roamers that have been known to show up in some very unexpected places!

THERE ARE NO COUGARS IN THIS PART OF THE COUNTRY!!!!

That's so the people who love to argue this topic can just save their breath.

I was waiting on it to start. You know that unless they see it with their own eyes, they do not exist! I still thik that is hillarious!

Follow the Red River and Sulpher River with your finger on a map. There is a lot of land running between those rivers all the way from there to Cooper in N Texas. No doubt in my mind that big cats exist in that area.

I live just east of Winnsboro, Tx in Franklin County. I saw what i thought to be a black panther run out infront of me on way home just before my house. Wasnt possitve of what it was but i had never seen anything like it. Bigger than most of the dogs that rome around here and moved way to fast and swift. Solid black and long tail. Still wasnt sure untill a couple nights later when i went out to feed my show cow. I heard the cat cut loose whith one of its high pitch screams. Like a woman screaming bloody murder. Once you hear you will never forget that noise. I knew what it was then. I heard it a couple more times. Then it moved on. They are def. out there.
