I have heard that Hughes Springs has a senior girl that ran in State last year? I think they had a good group of freshmen girls as well!!!
Springplaya
Rebecca Jensen of Elkhart. And Bullard has a girl thats pretty good too. The name slips me at the moment. But she's only a freshman.

I just found her name. Its Minta Spears

Also Jen Menard from Tyler Lee. She ran about 5:30 in the 1600 at Marshall and about 11:55 or so in the 3200

Those are good times, but I don't think it really matters how many A's are behind your name when it comes to track, unless you are talking relays. That's the great thing about track, the 5 A's put their shorts on the same way the 1 A's do. Congrats Erika, keep up the good work.

i was thinkin the same thing after i posted that, but it kinda does. small programs still share athletes and as i know erika personally she split time between softball every year but this year and her times are just now doing what they can. as a small school student i know exactly how it is. i personally dont play baseball but everyone else on my team does.. now track doesnt take as big a hit as say xc with football being in the same season obviously but you cant say that a good 5A girl and a good 1A girl have the exact same opportunity (which i guess they could if they commit to one sport which is rare in 1A and 2A) cause if so then the state records would all be around the same times in each of the five classifications.
idk i just personally prefer to give everything to track during the spring. as a whole track is a dying sport these days.. even more so middle and long distance. LONG LIVE THE 800!!!

good luck erika!

How can you say 5A and 1A are the same? They might put their shorts on the same way, but they DEFINATLEY do not have the same coaching or training equipment. Mcleod [where erika lacriox is from] doesn't even have a track to pratice on. So, i think it's safe to say Erika's times are GREAT for a 1A girl notworthy.gif

Actually, when it comes to distance running a track isn't even needed. Distance runners train on the roads, grass, hills and anywhere else that they can find. You see that is the thing about distance running, the school classification has nothing to do with the way that a distance runner trains. The more miles that a runner does, the better he or she will be.

I can guarantee you that a 5A state champion in the 100 meter dash won't beat a 1A two miler at any point. The 5A state champion can have a state of the art track while the 1A two miler doesn't have one and the result will still be the same...

The 5A state champion in the 100 meter dash getting lapped at least twice.

What Erika has done is great and I hope she continues to do well, but take it from someone who has coached at a 1a school, it doesn't matter when it comes to running. It amazes me how many kids from 1a schools go through their lilfe feeling inferior. I think they get this from parents, but I'm one of those who don't like giving kids a reason or excuse when they fail. I have run every distance from 100 meters to 135 miles and running is running. Example: I ran the Leadville Trail 100 mile race in Colorado, one year a tribe of Indians from Mexico showed up and one of the runners won first place. This runner did not have the fancy running shoes or watches, no gore-tex suit or anything like that, no he ran in sandals with his barefeet. Not for sure, but I'll bet his school would be classified as a 1a school. Like the old Nike add said a few years ago: "The roads are always open" JUST DO IT.
