Mesquite Poteet 3-1 winners over West Mesquite....Poteet in regional finals for second straight year.

Boys soccer: Mesquite Poteet 3, West Mesquite 1 (final)

A goal by Mitch Davis in the final minute gave Poteet (19-2-8) breathing room.

West Mesquite closed to 2-1 on a goal by Rey Torres with 7:41 remaining.

Poteet's Jose Mendoza made it 2-0 with a goal 12 minutes into the second half.

Poteet will play in the Class 4A Region II final at 1:30 p.m. Saturday against the Longview Pine Tree-Lindale winner.

How does Poteet stack up against this last game?

Poteet played an extremely difficult pre-District schedule...playing 5-A Jesuit to a 0-0 tie, losing in shoot out...Played El Paso Bel Air and lost 1-3.....Jesuit and Bel Air played today in regional semi with Jesuit winning 3-0. Poteet also played Midlothian and lost 0-1. Midlothian is also in regional semis in Region 1.

Poteet has a very strong defense, is good on counter attacks and set plays............

They had won three straight playoff games in shoot outs, beating Dallas Hillcrest, Richardson Pearce and McKinney.

They are not very strong on offense, but play with a lot of tenacity.
