So, now that the season is over, are there any East Texas players worthy of making All State (guys and girls)? I can think of a few (and only a few), but am interested in hearing from others.

East Texas Soccer was well represented this year in the playoffs. Players from Lindale, Longview, Pinetree, Mt.Pleasant, Tyler Lee, and John Tyler are all worthy of this accomplishment. Good luck to all those girls and boys.

Agreed. This was more a rhetorical question, as I think there are several players worthy of the honor. I was interested in hearing who folks thought should be chosen and why.
soccerguru
I hope that standouts from other schools that didn't make playoffs don't get slighted. That's usually the way it goes. Even Kilgore, Hallsville and Whitehouse have a deserving player or 2.
tiger19
Just know that only Coaches that are members of TASCO can submit names and vote. If your favorite player isnt nominated or picked for All region or All state it's because that coach isnt a member of TASCO.

bulaman
I could be wrong, but i thought that a team had to actually partake in the state tournament to be eligible for All-State, and no ET team made it to State, at least in 4A. However I think they are a few players that could have received this honor had they made it to State.
tiger19
No thats All Tournament team. All state is the top two point getters from the All region team. Coaches submit names and then fellow TASCO coaches vote for those players. After all the points are added up the two players from each position with the most points gets All State.

Are you trying to be a comedian? That was funny! Think of all the kids that will be slighted if you put
anyone from those teams on there. I hope the politics from the district selections do not make it to the all-state level.

If you give awards to kids that do not deserve them, What will make them work hard to get off of the
bottom?

You are trying to turn this into a Participation Award.

I misread the post. I thought we were talking about All East Texas. SO forget what I said earlier. Probably only Lindale and Pine Tree might have a chance at getting a player on the state team.

So - and this goes to not just guru - who is deserving of being an all-stater?
bulaman
Just from what i've seen, The Shipman twins and Norris of Lindale, and probably Kulak and Humphrey of PT. There may be more that are deserving, and maybe these aren't even deserving, but based on the results that these two teams recieved, these 5 players have been the most productive for East-Texas this year, and by all means this is just my opinion.
soccerguru
My thoughts would be Norris of Lindale would be the only one that is a for sure. Possibly Fincher and Kulak from Pine Tree and maybe the twins.
Wildcats
If I remember correctly there will only be 7 players in all of Region 2 that are All-State. 2 Defenders, 2 Mids, 2 Forwards, and 1 GK. The only difference would be if they take 2 keepers. I honestly can't remember if it's 1 or 2 keepers. That's not a lot of players and it's a very strong region.

According to the TASCO website, voting ends 4/29. I agree with the boys' assessment from a couple of folks, sp I wouldn't be surprised if 1 or both of the Shipmans make it from Lindale, as well as Norris. I am less sure about the PT guys, just because I only saw them once I am surprised there is no one weighing in on the girls' behalf. Hmm.
soccerguru
Did anyone hear or post the selections for all district from the lindale district yet? Haven't heard a thing.
Eagle88
All-district meeting was held on April 14th. The list was sent to the Tyler Paper on the 16th, but hasn't been published yet.

bulaman
If one Shipman makes it, the other should. One is not better than the other, just one(#29) gets more recognition because the other(#9) played stopper all year, were as the other(#29) played forward scoring 29 goals which is amazing, and the one that played stopper(#9), STILL had 18 goals.

As for All-State ET girls. Maddie Frasier(#23) of Lindale.

You are exactly right. And it's quite an accomplishment that the Lindale boys have 3 guys who merit serious consideraton for being all-state. Not bad.

On the girls' side...

The young lady from Whitehouse (Chesley...?)
Phelps and Martinez from Pine Tree deserve at least HM.
Rios, J. Weeks, Adams, and Bradley from Longview should each get consideration, though only 1-2 will make it IMO.

Here is the breakdown for Region 2 - Girls 4A (the numbers are similar for the boys and for the 5A classification)

There are 69 girls teams in the region.

This allows for 207 possible nominations if all coaches are members of TASCO and submit three players for
the All-Region/All-State Team. Unfortunately not everyone is a member, or they do not submit/vote for players.

For the 2009 season, the Region 2-4A girls ballot includes the following nominations:

6 Defenders
10 Forwards
13 Midfielders
4 Goalkeepers

Those who vote MUST select:

8 Defenders
8 Forwards
8 Midfielders
4 Goalkeepers

Therefore, all 6 defenders and 4 goalkeepers will be at least all-region. The players who receive the top two number of votes are chosen for All-State. Since all of these players will all receive the same number of votes, the All-State title will go to the player whose team advanced the farthest in the playoffs.

Of the 69 schools that have girls soccer, only 14 schools nominated players. Of the fourteen programs, seven schools nominated the maximum of three players, five schools nominated two players and two schools nominated one.

The Whitehouse girl is Chesley Strother. She was injured at the 1st srimmage this season and only played 5 or 6 games. Though she is talented, this lack of playing time cost her any chance for All-District and any consideration of All-State. Their sweeper and OU signee Candice Campsey should be considered. The Lady Lobos All District players, Rios, Dunnaway, Holloway, Grisham, McQuad, and Bradley should all warrant some consideration. Maddie Frasier from Lindale should be a no brainer. I'm not sure Pine Tree went far enough in the playoffs on the girls side to have any selections for all state, but could have some all region selections. Marissa Lees from Henderson should be considered also.

I don't know why anyone would expect Norris from Lindale to be nominated for anything past the district. His coach did him a real disservice last year by either not bothering to be a member of Tasco or nominating him if he was, when an all-region nod could have helped in recruiting. And if he is a member this year, its obvious that the only player he is going to push is the one Shipman player (who is deserving). Any body that has followed Lindale over the last four years knows that the most valuable player has been Norris. Thru two years with Coach Smith, when the Lindale program was on shakey ground, Norris as a freshman, made the Lindale team instantly better and his arrival marked the beginning of the rise of the Lindale program. So while his accomplishments may go unappreciated by some, his real contribution to Lindale was to set it on a firm foundation, upon which they can continue to build. A great young man who was a joy to watch play, he will be missed.

Chesley Strother for All State? First, as someone else said, she was hurt virtually the whole season and she's pretty talented for a freshman, but . . . She didn't play enough and didn't stand out when she did. Campsey was screwed in not getting the defensive MVP in the district, but don't know that she's All State material. Who are the PT girls? Never even heard of them. As for the Longview girls, they had a solid team, but no one stood out as being worthy of All State. Lees might be an All Region nominee, but not All State.

I'll agree with everything but one thing. "The Shipman" comment, yes one shipman did have 29 goals were as the other had only 18(which is still more than anyone else in the district excluding Lindale). But they are both equally talented, and the one with the less goals played STOPPER and had an astounding number of goals from a DEFENSIVE position.

EMILY Phelps - District Defensive MVP
DIANA Martinez - First Team All-District Goalkeeper

For my money, Emily Racicot (First Team All-District) should get as much consideration as anyone from PT for All-Region and beyond. Unfortunately she had to split her time between softball and soccer, but PT was simply a better team when she was on the field.

OK. The problem is going to be that they didn't advance far in the playoffs. They might be very good, but don't know that anyone would have seen them and, since they are both defensive players, they would be even harder to notice.
rednblack
Agreed. I'm not trying to promote any of them for regional or state honors (not qualified to do so). Just wanted to identify them and mention Emily Racicot as well.
ptdsoccer16
haha you must know emily some how.
