Full Version: The Mavericks problem is inconsistency at Coach

Hey all. The Mavs will never get a Championship, until Mark Cuban lets a coach be a coach. If you look at most of the successful teams...well in just about all sports, SHORT-TERM coaches dont cut it. If the owners keep switching coaches at the drop of a hat, the players can never find a system that CAN be successful. It dosent help when your owner is very un-sportsman-like and constantly getting fined, cussing out officials on live tv, and he is actually HURTING his teams efforts. Yeah sure the missed call in game three was bad, but calls like that happen every year, to many teams...get over it! Cuban needs to keep Rick(coach) around, and let the players gravitate towards his system...this takes TIME. Even though they are out of the playoffs, the Spurs still have the Best system in the league. You can say what ya want about age, ache knees, whatever. The Spurs always have a system where you can add a few pieces, and its off to the playoffs, and possibly another title run. They also have a long-tenured coach in Popovich, which the Spurs owner has a lot of faith in. It took TIME for Popovich to get his system in place...years not months. Its no wonder Mike Brown of Cleveland copyed POPS system....cause it is successful! OWNERS ENJOY YOUR TEAM IN THE GOOD AND BAD TIMES, AND REMEMBER ITS NOT ABOUT YOU, ITS ABOUT THE FANS!!!! JJS

The refs along with the rest of the NBA are trying to lineup the Lakers and Cavs in The Final for better ratings. Watch what I'm telling you.

Ever since last year with the Laker-Celtics matchup....I have begun to wonder!

Wonder no longer, for it is true.

I think you've pointed out that the problem is not the "coach," it is the owner.

notworthy.gif I kept the part about the SPURS because they are MY team!!! notworthy.gif

Was Cuban the problem when the Mavs blew the lead in the 4th qrt. of game 3 when they were up 2-0 in the championship? The answer is No. The Mavs have some problems but its the players and not the coaches, IMHO. They need to make some moves in the off season but I'm not sure were I'd start. I believe Ben Gordon is a free agent. Damp needs to go. I like Bass but they need a post who can score in the paint.

Pop is a good coach for the Spurs but it sure didn't hurt when that lotto ball took a funny bounce and they landed Duncan to go along with D.Robinson. They also found a gem in T. Parker. They have had a nice run but they won't be the same now that they are getting old unless they make some moves to get another big time player to go along with Parker. Its about the players.

I agree the Refs have to much influence on the games.

how long was don nelson the coach? how many rings did they get? its not the mavs fault he decided to retire and then come back. avery johnson did a great job of coaching, however he did a terrible job of preparing for the playoffs....every season he took them, he would change something in the playoffs.

against GS he tried a different line up just about every night. when they were smoothering dirk, johnson continued to call dirks number. he had no faith in howard at all and said devin harris did not play the pg position the right way. i am A OK with them getting rid of him.

i think carlisle is a great coach and will be around for a few years. once he got the chemistry with the team down, they started rolling.

Players win games and coaches always loose games. Always been that way. As it should.

I totally agree with you guys. Carlisle is a good coach and I sure hope he sticks around for awhile. The Mavericks need to unload Kidd great player but a liability when it comes to defense and scoring. They also need to get rid of Dampier who is a waste of space and is not much better than Shawn Bradley. These are all my opinions so bare with me. The Mavericks look better when they play more of a half court game. Kidd is a great passer but the only one who finishes consistently is Terry. So therefore I think slowing the game down would help on both ends of the floor. Lastly, we need size and aggression, the Mavericks are never around for offensive rebounds and still get beat down the floor. Slow the game down and take quality shots so they don't get burned in transition.

Mistakes do happen. BUT, a good coach will keep teaching them on those type of situations. Still errors do happen.

I never said Carlisle was not a good coach! Stevosev7

the Mavs have many more problems besides the owner and coach. they don't play defense consistently, they have nobody who is a threat on the offensive boards and they pretty much just rely on the jump shot. Dirk played great in this series for a change. i always thought in the past he disappeared come playoff time. to be honest i'm not much of an NBA fan anymore. they have a bunch of high paid tatoo freaks.

The Mavs haven't had the same energy since they traded Nash. Just my two cents.

Also, do not forget they also passed on John Stockton. That was almost as bad as the team who selected Sam Bowie over Michael Jordan. Who was that?

could be portland im not sure.
stevosev7
it was portland...

dallas will be ok...let carlisle work a little. there is not chance on this earth dallas could survive on a half court offense. you have to have a legit big man to play that style of game;

Your right, but man how many times was Dallas beat down the floor because of taking a bad shot. Kidd was constantly beat in transition one time NeNe which is totally unacceptable to get beat down the floor by a center although he is pretty athletic though.

two reasons that happened...

A. Denver is probably the 2nd most athletic team in the league (Hawks being the first)
B. Denver gives up a man on defense, especially to a jump shooting team, so they can get those easy transition baskets.

their style will also be effective against LA, however, if they reach anyone in the east...whether it be boston, orlando, or cleveland, Denver will have that shut down.

LA will turn denver into a jump shooting team also though. assuming LA makes it.

My point exactly Dallas should have slowed it up and shortened the game. I have a feeling Cleveland is going to breeze throught whoever comes out of the West.
