http://www.fannation.com/truth_and_rumors/...amp;eref=fromSIThe rumored deal would send Dampier and Stackhouse to the Suns for Shaq. The Suns would then buy out Stackhouse's contract and release him. This would save the Suns enough money under the salary cap to sign Amare Stoudemire to a long-term extension and potentially go after another star in the loaded 2010 free agent class.
Dallas needs a physical big man in the middle, and Shaq proved this year that he can still bring it. I would not mind this trade considering Dallas would not be giving up much of anything.
What I would really like Dallas to do is work a deal with Atlanta to bring in Marvin Williams and Acie Law, who are both being shopped.

Would be a good move. I know he is getting older. If they don't do something soon. They will need to completely start over with everyone.

I'm not a fan of bringing Shaq to Dallas at this point in his career....but if they can get him for Dampier & Stackhouse without it taking up a lot of future money then it's a no-brainer.

When have they NOT gone after Shaq? Every year it seems the Mavs are in the running for him. This sounds like a good idea cause they would not be giving up too much, if that would be the deal.

This would be a great deal for the Mavs. Shaq will gather Stats that would be better than Dampier and Stackhouse combined. Mavs also need a true PG, Kidd is getting old and we never know if Barea can take over the starting job...

Shaq is 37 and carries a lot of weight on those ankles.......
How many more long term deals does have left in him, if any ?
I was at the game when the Mavs played Orlando in Reunion Arena when the Diesel made his debut in Dallas .

Regardless Shaq is still the best center in the NBA after Howard.

I think Barea will be able to take over the starting job IF they can get someone else out there with him. Maybe a more experienced pg like Kidd. But for now Kidd is the man. Him and Barea fit together perfect.

Yeah Shaq is getting up in age. He would struggle with minutes. That is to be expected. He would also give a lot of quality minutes. He still can be unstoppable under the basket. However, he is too old to break the bank getting him here.

I would take an aging Shaq over Damp anyday. The guy just doesn't do enough for the Mavs to be a starting Center in the league.

My point had nothing to do with who was better. Point was it's about the money. It would be foolish for Cuban to pay an arm and a leg for him. Who knows what that number would be.

I agree, heck Manute Bol could do what Damp has done since he's been a Mav.

but when you give up that same arm and leg that you were paying damp and stack....what is it really hurting?
shaq may only give you 25-28 mins a game...but isn't that just about what dampier is giving? i say if dallas can get shaq then do it now because dirk and kidd are not getting any younger and kidd is not getting any better.
plus dallas has an excellent free throw coach...could be the missing link to the only problem shaq has ever had.

With those numbers I'd be okay with getting him. Of course Cuban would do this in a minute.

and he needs to if he wants dallas to REALLY contend with real teams...tell me the last team that won an NBA title without a hall of fame big man?
outside of detroit (who still had rasheed and ben wallace) LA had shaq, SA had david robinson/tim duncan, miami had shaq, boston had KG. though he is not a true big man the bulls had rodman...and of course the rockets had olajuwon.

Bulls won w/out a big man honestly.
The Heat had Shaq but honestly D-wade won the series. Dallas had no answer for him.

i'm not saying he has to be the best player on the team...i'm just saying that there is always going to be a big force inside from every championship team. bulls are exception obviously cuz they had michael jordan.

If the Mavs had a Michael Jordan I'm sure they could win without a big man too.

Now ESPN is saying that Phoenix is working a deal with Cleveland to send Shaq over to play with Lebron, that would be a nice pickup for the Cavaliers.

that is not the answer for cleveland...they need more length around the perimeter. the problem came when 6'2 mo williams or 6'3 delonte west had to guard 6'9 rashard lewis or 6'8 hedo turkoglu...why do you think LA dominated the finals when they had ariza, kobe, and lamar odem covering those guys. plus...if cleveland DID win a title with shaq.......................you know where i'm going with this.

I agree about the Cavs needing more length on the perimeter, but adding Shaq I think would give them a much better chance of winning the title. With Shaq in the middle banging on folks and drawing attention, some of those smaller guys would be more open to take there jumpers, which is all most of them can do and would really free James up more too.

Turkoglu is looking for a team after this season as he is a free agent. If the Cavs could get someone like him.
