Nieuwendyk, 42, is considered by many to be one of the top up-and-coming hockey executives in the league today. The former Stars player returns to Dallas from the Toronto Maple Leafs, where he served as Special Assistant to the General Manager this past season. Prior to joining the Leafs and after his 2006 retirement, Nieuwendyk worked as a Special Consultant to the General Manager with the Florida Panthers. As Assistant General Manager, he also helped lead Team Canada at the 2009 IIHF World Hockey Championship when the team won a silver medal.

^ good ... maybe this means no more Sean Avery-type deals.

Co-General Managers Brett Hull and Les Jackson have been reassigned within the organization into positions that focus on their respective strengths. Hull will serve as Executive Vice President and Alternate Governor while Les Jackson will return to his long-time role as Director of Scouting and Player Development.

Indeed. I love the idea of Nieuwy being our new GM.
His hockey smarts are unmatched.
Les Jackson was a much better scouter and he made it pretty clear through most fans eyes that know the situation that he wants to be a scout person...not a GM.
Hull has too many playing buddies left in the game to be a true GM of this team IMO.

Bingo.
A change was definitely needed & I don't know who would be better than Nieuwendyk. Loved him as a player & I think he fits this job.

Maybe so but at Joe has experience when it comes to management. He's been up there since he retired.

Brett Hull was a terrific offensive player. Other than that I never was a big fan of his. Don't really know if he was good at his job or not. But IMO the Stars organization definitely needed some shuffling.

I doubt it! Most likely he’ll get his original job back;
Ambassador of Fun.
Actually, I think I read where he was promoted to Executive VP. Whatever that is!

^ I know what an Executive VP is, but what the hell is an
Alternate Governor ???

At the very least, this is getting the Dallas media talking about the Stars in June...which hasn't happened in consecutive years in quite a while.
Watching his press conference yesterday only made me more excited about what he brings to the table as a general manager and the future of this franchise.
