While no successor has been named, sources say the Stars have asked for permission to talk to former Los Angeles Kings, Colorado Avalanche and Vancouver Canucks coach Marc Crawford. All signs point towards Crawford taking over for Tippet, however that remains unconfirmed at this point.
Do.

Heika's update on the situation...

I've been following this all day, but neither the Stars nor Tippett would return my calls so far.

ugh -- not Marc Crawford
No one, NO ONE, not Scotty Bowman, not Toe Blake, not Punch Imlach could have done a better job with what little the Stars had to work with last season...

CBS 11/TXA 21 Sports has confirmed, through a source within the Dallas Stars organizaion, that head coach Dave Tippett has been fired.
Stars employees found out about the firing earlier today. New general manager Joe Nieuwendyk was very careful in his decision to let Tippett go. Nieuwendyk considers the Stars a young team and wants to find a coach that can relate to the youth.
Really don't understand why the Stars are being so secretive about this.

A person familar with the decision says the Dallas Stars have fired coach Dave Tippett. The person spoke Wednesday night to The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity because the team was not releasing the news.........
Yes I know the Stars were hit with injuries last year, but so was St Louis, and the Blues made the play-offs..injuries alone does not absolve a 12th place finish and as nice as that Western Conf final run was year before last, until that point Tippet could not get this team out of first round.
I like that Newy made a bold move to shape this team how he wants. I dont know how I feel about Crawford being who he wants, I do know that with Crawford Dallas will be more aggresive on the offenseive side and use the skill players they have.

It's official.
Wow. With all the great coaches out there.......we pick a guy who hasn't won anything since 1996. Great job Nieuwy.

“I am very excited that we have been able to secure Marc Crawford as head coach of the Dallas Stars,” Nieuwendyk said. “Marc is a winner with extensive experience in this league, and I am confident he will get the most out of our hockey club. I look forward to working with him as we prepare for the 2009-10 season and beyond. Dave Tippett did a very good job in his six seasons here with the Stars, however it was my feeling that our team needed a new direction moving forward.”
Additionally, Mark Lamb was relieved of his duties after six seasons as an assistant coach with the club. The remainder of the coaching staff will continue to be evaluated.
If you're going to have an entire make over, then fire the entire coaching staff outside of Stu Barnes.
