SEPTEMBER 15, 1914
Cleveland Naps first baseman Nap Lajoie collects the 3,000th hit of his Major League career -- a single off Detroit Tigers hurler Pug Cavet.

SEPTEMBER 15, 1922
Philadelphia Phillies catcher Butch Henline hits three of his 40 career home runs in one game -- leading the Phillies to a 10-9 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals. Henline is the first National Leaguer to hit three home in one game during MLB's modern era.

SEPTEMBER 15, 1926
The Class D Southwestern League season ends with Salina Millers pitcher Dick Wykoff leading the league in both wins (25) and home runs (28).

SEPTEMBER 15, 1950
Prior to the start of the bottom of the first inning, St. Louis Cardinals starting pitcher Cloyd Boyer injures himself on the mound during his warm-ups & leaves the game without facing a single batter -- still earning credit for a game started. Boyer is replaced by Red Munger who pitches the Cardinals to a 6-2 victory over the Brooklyn Dodgers -- hurling a complete game without credit for a game started! w00t.gif

In 1949, Pirates pitcher Ernie Bonham dies following an appendectomy and stomach surgery, just 18 days after his last pitching perfromance, an 8-2 win over the Phillies. Mrs. Bonham will receive the first benefits under the players pension plan, $ 90 a month for 10 years.
Ernest "Tiny" Bonham was a 20-game winner in his third season, while leading the NL in complete games and shutouts that year (1942).

In 1968, the Cardinals clinch the NL pennant with a 7-4 win over Houston. Roger Maris hits his 275th and last home run. Curt Flood collects 5-hits in the contest.

In the Giants-Astros game in 1977, former Tyler Wildcatter skipper, Darrell Evans homered for the Giants.

SEPTEMBER 15, 1979
Boston Red Sox first baseman Bob Watson hits for the cycle in a 10-2 win over the Baltimore Orioles. Watson becomes the first Major League to cycle in the both the American League and National League (having accomplished the feat as a member of the Houston Astros on June 24, 1977 vs. the San Francisco Giants).
