I love to grill chicken over an open flame and smother it with sweet baby rays bbq sauce with baked beans and potato salad for sides. There is nothing in the world better than camp food. Anyone have any favorites?

Chicken fried venison backstrap and white cream gravy, mashed potatoes, and purple hull peas. Reminds me why I hunt them in the first place

You forgot the cornbread. A few few dry lima beans or pintos ain't bad either.

I prefer home-made rolls !!!! Ain't nothing better than sopping that gravy with home-made rolls. Well home-made biscuits ain't bad either!!
I always save a bag of backstrap just for bowseason eve meal !!!!

Cooked up 4 small backstrap steaks for supper tonight. Chicken-fried!
triple dipped. first in the flour, then in the egg-milk wash, back in the flour, back in the wash, and finally back in the flour. Then straight into the 325 degree deep fryer. About 3 to 5 minutes later they're golden and crunchy with a tender inside!!!! I always season my flour and wash with Lowry's seasoning salt. Not too much though or it will be too salty.
It don't get much better

The night before, I'm in bed. This is how my day starts, waking up around 4:30 am with scrambled eggs, buttermilk biscuits with creamy sausage gravy, a glass of orange juice, a glass of milk, and a fried ham or center cut bacon.

This may be an old wives tale, but I was always told to not eat bacon or eggs before hunting. That the deer could smell it on you, and the smells are so strong that they deter teh deer.

Anyone else ever heard that?

Usually the night before opening morning I am on a bus coming back from a football game or at the field house after a home game. Cold burger on the bus or snacks in the field house, maybe a leftover concrete hard hot dog from the concession stand. Go to bed about 3 or 4am after breaking down film so that I can hunt the next morning. Makes for a long, tired opening day but wouldn't trade it for the world. Would just about give my left leg to make sure that I see the sunrise from whatever is my current favorite stand on opening morning!!!!!

And a big hunk of sweet onion.

16 oz. 1.5" thick Ribeye smothered with garlic butter grilled over an open fire and baked potatoes cooked over coals.

^That's kind of a tradition down at our deer lease also.

Somebody will pick up some of those monster Rib-eyes over at the Blue Store in Noonday.

A little pricey but worth every penny.

It's an old wives tale, because they didn't want their husbands to go out hunting Bambi's mamma. That's what me and my pa would do, and we never had any problems.

The last several years we catch a hog 75-100 lbs and feed it out a couple weeks before slaughter. Inside the rib cage throw in carrots, taters, onions, apples and occasionally some brown sugar. Start cooking on Thursday for a feast on Friday.... thumbsup.gif
stoneykelly
never had hog done like that. sounds good. you stick him on a pit?
Rednek99
Smoker, but yeah still a pit.
