I read that earlier today....what a jerk......
THSfanatic
He was great. Maybe the best of all time. But some of the things about him are so petty. And so many of the stories on him are tainted. I still can't get over the night he was supposedly running a 103 temp and scored like 40 in a playoff game. Don't care what anybody says that's physically impossible. Your body can't do that. I'm sure he might not have been feeling well, and very likely sick. But 103??????...... I guess it made a good sports story, but get real.
Bballer2005
Did anyone actually watch the speech? He told people what motivated him.

The first thing he did when he got on that stage was mention Scottie Pippen, and basically said he didn't win the championships by himself. Calling out owner Jerry Krause was legit too. He said owners put the teams together, but the players have to go out and play. The Lakers did a great job in 2005 of putting Kobe, Shaq, Karl Malone, Gary Payton, and others on the same team and they lost to a less talented Pistons team.

As far as Byron Russell goes, he said something to Jordan. He said he could guard him, he said he could stop him, and we all saw what happened every time he tried. He admitted to saying what Jordan said he said. Jordan didn't make him say those things, he did that on his own.

Me personally, I thought this was a very good and entertaining speech. He was very honest in this speech and I guess this is why a lot of you have a problem with it. I'd love to hear what your problems were with the speech.

If you can read the referenced article & not see anything that is a problem, there is no use carrying on a conversation about it.
The point is that he is being honored into an elite group. It's not time to bring up 10 year old personal issues.
Bballer2005
I'm sure I read the article before you did and also responded to the writer. Did he bring up issues or did he explain what motivated him?

It was classless to do that? He gave a speech, he thanked people, he told what motivated him, what did you want him to do? Everyone knows about most of his life. He's not the best person in the world, so he couldn't really talk about his family, other than his mother and father. He's the greatest player to play the game of basketball, he dominated night in and night out, the media always criticized him and after he gave his speech, the media did the same thing. For everyone of them that hated his speech, their are 100 others who loved it.

If you're referring to him calling out the Hall of Fame for charging 1,000 dollars instead of 200, and you think that is wrong, I hate that for you. Michael Jordan is a great businessman on top of other things and the hall of fame made a lot of money off of him. Those people weren't paying 1,000 dollars a pop to see the others, (no disrespect for them at all because they were ALL great players and great coaches and a joy to watch ) they were paying it to see Jordan. At a business aspect, of course you're not going to like people making money of you and you're not getting a cut. Granted, he doesn't need the money, but it's still the basic principle.

You've yet to give your opinion on the speech other than calling it classless and posting an article. Well you didn't say classless, you implied it. You haven't really given reason to validate that though. So please, at least back up your point of view. I believe I've defended mine.

On another note, about the story being tainted of when Michael was sick. I don't know what his temperature was, but he did have the flu. And during every time out, it did look like he was about to vomit at any second. Do you think he said he had a 103 degrees temperature or was it something the media came up with? I'll give you something that isn't tainted, 5 MVPS, 6 FINALS MVPS, 6 NBA RINGS, and countless other awards throughout the years.

So please, a response would be greatly appreciated.

You can count all the MVPs & rings you want. Didn't I say he was probably the greatest of all time? He even mentioned
the flu in his speech, so draw your own conclusions. If you ever have the true flu you'll be in the bed or in the hospital....not on an NBA court. But I agree with you that's probably media driven. But he stokes the flames.

I have an opinion, you have an opinion. The stories about Michael Jordan's ego are reported by many. I didn't know him
& you didn't either. I posted the article.
He's just in my opinion (MY OPINION) one of the top 5 phonies of all time. Jordan, Sosa, Favre, Clemens,
and Pete Rose. All great players (although I'd sure exclude Sosa), but all people I believe projected themselves to
be something they weren't

When I attended the HoF ceremonies in 1984 when Havlicek was inducted, I believe I paid $50 for my ticket. The ceremonies were held at a huge restaurant in Agawam. Best $50 I have ever spent.

Talent & Wealth Does not = class, If AL Sharpton or Jesse Jackson heard that
hmm.gif they would cry Racism.

NBA basketball is the worst sport ever ,more worse then European soccer, when it comes to class and professionalism.
