Manziel selected Earl Campbell Award Weekly Winner

TYLER, Texas - Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel has been selected as The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award National Player of the Week for the seventh week of the college football season.

The Southeastern Conference quarterback threw for 346 yards and ran for two touchdowns in a game where No. 9 Texas A&M had to rally to beat Mississippi 41-38 on Saturday night. Manziel led the Aggies on one final drive where he had runs of 12 and 13 yards that led to the game-winning field goal. Manziel attempted 39 passes with 31 completions for 346 yards and one interception. He also had 18 carries for 113 yards and 2 touchdowns. Next up for the Aggies is #24 Auburn in College Station, Texas.

Manziel is a graduate of Tivy High School, Kerrville, Texas. He was born in Tyler, Texas.

The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award, announced in 2012 by the Tyler Chamber and SPORTyler, recognizes the top offensive player in Division 1 football who also exhibits the enduring characteristics that define Earl Campbell: integrity, performance, teamwork, sportsmanship, drive, community, and tenacity; specifically tenacity to persist and determination to overcome adversity and injury in pursuit of reaching goals.

In addition, the nominee must meet one or more of the following criteria: born in Texas and/or graduated from a Texas High School and/or played at a Texas-based junior college or four year D1 Texas college.
