(Waco) Connally's Rabe headed to (Katy) Mayde Creek...

Mike Rabe, who helped rebuild Waco Connally into a playoff team during his five year as AD/Football Coach is now headed to Mayde Creek High School in Katy.

Katy I.S.D. confirmed the hiring in a press release on Tuesday night.

Rabe, who has been a head coach for nine-years will become Mayde Creek's Campus Athletic Coordinator and Head Football Coach.

Rabe has been in coaching for fifteen years, including the last five at Waco Connally as their AD/Football Coach compiling a 28-26 record despite an 0-10 record his first season with the Cadets. He took Connally to the playoffs twice.

In a press release, Katy I.S.D. Executive Director of Athletics Debbie Decker said, “We are thrilled that he has accepted the position at Mayde Creek High School, Coach Rabe will bring to Katy ISD a track record of turning programs around.”

Rabe told David Smoak, "We had a great run at Connally, but it's time to move on."

Rabe served as an assistant coach at Arlington High School and an offensive coordinator at Cleburne, before landing his first head coaching job at Ganado in 2006, before leading the program to back-to-back semifinal appearaces in 2008 and 2009.

Rabe's last two seasons at Connally ended with losses to eventual state finalist Fairfield in 2013, and eventual state champion Gilmer in 2014.

Rabe’s first day at Mayde Creek High School is Monday, January 26th.
