Week 8 Games to Watch in Central Texas

#9 Stephenville (4-2,1-0) at #4 La Vega (4-2,0-0)

Stephenville is coming into this game after opening up district 5-4A D1 with a 21-14 victory over China Spring. La Vega had a bye last week, so this will be the Pirates first district game.

These two teams have two common opponents on the season in Argyle and Midlothian Heritage.

Stephenville came up short in both games, falling to Argyle 45-35 and Midlothian Heritage 26-21. La Vega came up short to Argyle 31-29 and defeated Midlothian Heritage 45-18.

Stephenville is averaging 34.5ppg, while allowing 22.8ppg. La Vega is averaging 41.2ppg, while allowing 18.3ppg.

La Vega leads the all-time series 5-3, but Stephenville has won the last two matchups.

West (5-2,3-0) vs Whitney (4-2,2-0)

The Trojans and Wildcats have two common opponent on the season in Hillsboro and McGregor.

West fell to Hillsboro 58-7, but defeated McGregor 34-10 last week. Whitney fell to Hillsboro 23-16, but defeated McGregor 27-7.

Whitney is currently the district 9-3A DI front runner, while West sits in second place.

Whitney is averaging 31ppg, while allowing 14.7ppg. West is averaging 30.4ppg, while allowing 28.1ppg.

West owns the all-time series 26-4 and are winners of the last three matchups.

#5 Rockdale (5-1,2-0) vs Troy (5-2,2-1)

Rockdale is the defending state champions and the Tigers are playing to defend that title. After opening the season with a 17-16 loss to Giddings the Tigers have been mauling their opponents.

Troy has been a surprise team in 2018. The Trojans are coming of a 3-7 season last year and they have already surpassed that win total as district is getting underway.

The Trojans fell to district 10-3A DI frontrunner Cameron 39-26, but reeled off two consecutive district wins over Jarrell and Academy.

The Tigers have cruised past district foes Manor New Tech and Lago Vista and currently sit in second place in district.

Rockdale is averaging 40ppg, while allowing 21.8ppg. Troy is averaging 32.6ppg, while allowing 22.6ppg.

Clifton (7-0,1-0) vs #9 Lexington (5-1,1-0)

This district 8-3A DII matchup has the potential to be the best game in Central Texas during week 8.

Clifton has outscored their opponents 333-40, and the post points they’ve allowed in a game was 14 to Godley. The Cubs are off to their best start in 24-years, where they went 11-1 in 1994, falling in the area round to Hubbard 19-6.

Lexington’s only loss of the season came against defending state champions Rockdale 29-27. The Eagles most impressive victory came in week 6 against Shiner 35-21.

Clifton is averaging 47.6ppg, while allowing 5.7ppg. Lexington is averaging 45ppg, while allowing 22ppg.

Lexington is currently in first place of district 8-3A DII, while Clifton is in second place. This will be the first time these two programs have met on the football field.
