  9. Vol.XX No.IX Pg.5 November 1983 Use Your Bible Dan S. Shipley THE DEVIL'S PLACE IN MAN (Eph. 4:27) Intro. 1.Text suggests the devil can gain a place in man and that man must resist his efforts to do so. 2.Satan indwells man through sin (1 Jn. 3:8) 3.Observe that the devil's place in man: I. IS A SOUGHT PLACE A. Satan continually seeks an opening l.To gain the advantage (2 Cor. 2:11) 2.As a roaring lion, seeks whom he may devour (1 Pet. 5:8) B.He desires to have all men as he desired Peter (Lk. 22:31) 1.As he sought to have Eve, Job, Ananias and Sapphira and even Christ. 2.He employs his devices, fiery darts, and deception to gain a place. II. IS A GIVEN PLACE A. Only place Satan can have in man is that which man gives 1.Must stand steadfast in the faith (1 Pet. 5:9) 2. Resist him and he will flee (Jas. 4:7) 3.Therefore, man has responsibility to resist' B. Every man can have power over Satan! 1.Man is able to endure the temptation (1 Cor. 10:13) 2.Earliest resistance is easiest resistance. III. IS A GROWING PLACE A. Because sin begets more sin 1.Recall David's sin with Bathsheba (looking, lusting, sending, adultery, lying, murder of Uriah) 2.Involves an attitude, not merely an act. Weakens resistance. B. Because sin blinds and hardens and thus, perpetuates itself 1. Heb. 3:13, hardened by deceitfulness of sin. 2.2 Cor. 4:4, blinded minds. 3.To countenance any sin is to give Satan an expanded base to operate. IV. IS A DISTRACTING PLACE A. Diverts interest and attention 1.From things above to things on this earth (Col. 3:2) 2.From God and others to self. 3.Hinders singleness of mind (2 Cor. 11:3) B. As the "thorny" soil of Luke 8 1.Word of God choked out by cares, riches, and pleasures of this life. V. IS A DESTRUCTIVE PLACE A. Satan is our adversary whose aim is to "devour" 1.1 Pet. 5:8 B. To serve sin and Satan results in sharing his fate (Matt. 25:41)

  11. My Dad never owned a credit card in his life, was a shrewd investor and accumulated land over his working years mostly without taking out large loans. Like me, he retired from the military and worked as a butcher until he retired at 65 and he raised cattle while he was working. He rarely bought anything he couldn't pay for without cash, except his mortgage which was a VA loan back in 1962 which was less than $80 bucks a month. He never made a lot of money during his working years. He lived primarily off his investments, cattle and timber operations. He did pretty well for himself. He taught me to handle my finances without getting into much debt. He taught me how to save and invest and he drilled down on the dangers of borrowing on the credit ... he taught me there are two kinds of people ,,, those who primarily pay interest and those who earn primarily interest. I guess my Dad's social security meant more in his day than it does in mine ... but he taught me to never rely on social security for retirement and I didn't. I taught my two sons what my Dad taught me and they both have done better than me financially. The key to retirement is saving and investment and the higher paying job during your working years the better. I was fortunate to make pretty good money and saved and/or invested from 15 - 24%, even higher for a few years, for most of my working years ... "after your tithe, pay yourself first, then live off the rest" ... my Dad's golden rule ... Social security is less than 20% of my wife and my retirement income. She worked for the federal government for 20 years and retired and worked a few years in the civilian sector as a HR director for a few years and retired in her mid 5o's .... I retired from the military and from BCBX of TX with two pretty good retirements .... I retired at 62 and I've just got out of the cattle business myself and am just going to cut hay and timber off my place and lease the pasture .... I have made over triple my working income the past 40 years with my investments ... we are also fortunate to have gas and oil revenue and a pipeline communications tower on our property that pays some .... just don't depend on social security for your retirement .... and stay out of credit card debt .... I quit working for the man long ago .... turned 70 in Jan and just got out of the hospital yesterday ... Baylor Scott and White/Azalea Orthopedics in Tyler with my 5th neck surgery .... I'm going to have to slow down, sell some equipment and stuff I don't need .... starting now ....

  13. Capitalism is a Ponzi scheme? Idiotic for sure. You wouldn’t repot assets that you financed for someone? How would you plan on making money on your money if you loaned it to someone?
