A very large bumper sticker dating back to when I was at UT. I picked it up my freshman year ('84). It is now outside my office door at work for the week.3 points

I watched WR play Harmony earlier this year. They won on a last minute drive. They have some kids that can run, but don't have alot of size. I haven't seen GW this year, but assume they have similar size to years past. If so, they should be able to control the line of scrimmage. I think GW will be too much for them.2 points

West Rusk and Gladewater don’t compare. You’re talking about a team that just left Gilmer & PG district vs a team that just moved up from Troup & ARP district. I promise you y’all are about to see a level of football that you haven’t witnessed. I’m not doubting West Rusk at all, but I know y’all will not be able to slow down Gladewater. There’s a reason Gilmer didn’t schedule them this year!2 points

This is the Texas/OU game! None of this Red River Rivalry or Red River Shootout nonsense!!!! Here are some pics of the TX/OU t-shirts that I wore while a student at UT-Austin in the mid-to-late '80's leading up to the game. Texas wins! And, Hookem Horns!!2 points

No need in this Eli. If you have followed Grapeland this year, you would know they haven’t been running up the score. Stay classy my friend, your town’s image depends on it!2 points

I've said this before and I'll say it again, if your weakness is your o-line, GW isnt a good matchup for you.... (not WR in particular im just saying in general).... GW d-line is stupid good.1 point

This is one of 3 games that I predicted West Rusk to lose. I really hope they prove me wrong once again. This game has a lot of excitement building up to kickoff much like the Newton game last year and I think it will meet the same expectations. Best of luck to each team, needless to say there is going to be 2 great teams on the field Friday night and may the better one win.1 point

Graduated Carthage High School in 1999. Played cornerback in 8th grade football at 5’5” and 85 pounds. Time for freshman football and I’d not grown a lick. I graduated high school at about 5’9” and 150 pounds. Did not play high school football. I’m now 5’11” and change - 6’ and 195 pounds. I saw someone earlier saying their cousin wished he were his size now in high school, ME TOO!!! Halfway hacked off about it!1 point

I’m surprised no one has mentioned the matchup between #77 for Carthage at OT vs #40 for PG at DE. Should be a heavy weight battle.1 point

That was the season after i graduated but our class did resume the Dawgs playoff ways after about a 5 year absence. We were neck and neck with wilmer hutchins until late in the game when a forced turnover by WH on Dawgs first and goal from the one yard line changed the momentum. They went on to win 25-0 and won state that year. Seems like we ALWAYS lost to the state champs back then.1 point

While i understand having 5 yrs will help with a lot but the things i see are fixable immediately. We do have more talent then you mention but we can’t seem to put a game plan together to exploit our talent other than a run game. I was so pumped in the second half of the Bullard game. They opened the playbook and everyone got the ball. Well balanced. Of course Bullard doesn’t have the D compared to the other teams we have played. From a fans perspective it’s almost like the play callers second guess themselves especially when we get way behind. It seems we go into conservative mode and go back to the same 2 or 3 plays. What is strange is that they practice with a open playbook and it looks great. It’s just don’t seem to rollover to the game. Maybe they are saving it for district but these players need confidence now. There has been defenses calling our plays in the second half and it humiliates our offensive players. That ain’t right. We have the talent to make the playoffs in this very competitive district. Hoping this off week they are able to gather themselves and come out strong against Kilgore. Sadly if we don’t change our game plan we will only have one win on the Season. Bullard 20-191 point

Haha that reminds me several years back i went to new orleans with my boss who was around 70 yrs old but acted like a teenager. We were attending a convention. We strolled a bit too far down bourbon street and found this bar. We took one step inside and boss was like "uhh whats this?" I told him you dont wanna know and turned us both around and got out of there. Lol i'll never forget that.1 point

So its the fan bases fault!!!! Interesting!!! I personally don't buy into the distraction theory because you can't tell me the players are thinking about this stuff(Turf and scoreboard) while they are playing. That is the stuff fans talk about and maybe coaches. There is big section of the community that is opposed to the turf and scoreboard, but none of those people come to the games anyway. We have won 2 games on turf this year, that wasn't the point. The point is we have only won 3 home games since the season we installed the turf. Whatever the reason/excuse, coincidence, tough scheduling, bad teams, bad coaching it is a fact and a trend. The previous post was answering a question about Nac. winning at home. This is the first year over the last 3 that we should absolutely be favored in the games scheduled at home for the rest of the year. The negativity in town comes from the results of the team over the last 30 years. The history of this program suggests we have the right to be skeptical about predictions. I for one have very high hopes that this is the group that sets us up for the next 5 years. However, we have seen this before with some of the groups that have come through and not lived up to expectations. Those teams losing had absolutely nothing to do with whether or not people where standing and cheering.1 point

Im just curious what some of the Chill faithful think about Coach Hooker and the overall direction of the program. I personally think a coach needs 5 years to really get a good idea about what his way of thinking can do for a football program. It seems to me that Surratt and Traylor have made some folks in the area a little dillusional lately. I mostly follow Kilgore and Longview and I'll admit I have been one of the one's that have said in the past i felt like Longview should have had a state championship by now, but on the whole, Longview is in great shape as a program. Kilgore is in the middle of a miserable season, something their fans are not used to, and to hear some of them talk, there are actually people that want to take a staff that has had maybe 2-3 losing seasons in 25 years and clean house. It's just crazy to me to hear some of the people talk about certain programs, when there are those out there like C-Hill and others in the area that seem to have trouble getting it together every year. If every coach from Kilgore decided to put in at Chapel Hill next year, I'm sure there would be a welcoming party at the fieldhouse for those same coaches that some Kilgore fans are ready to run out of town. I have to admit, that drama is part of what makes sports so interesting to me, and it's fascinating how some coaches can have trouble in one place and be run out of town, then go somewhere else and be the best thing that's happened to that program. I'm not bashing any coaches or fan bases, I'm just genuinely curious what the perspective of the Chill folks is. Chapel Hill has always had athletes for as long as i can remember. I think they'll be back and wish them luck.1 point

I've never seen a Surratt era team that has ever overlooked an opponent.1 point

I'm lower than when I played (only because of a recent diet I've been on for the last few months). At one point after college I was over 300lbs despite only being 235 when playing. That was zero fun.1 point

Looking forward to a great game. Been several years since the Raiders have traveled down to WO. Winny played better last week so I look for them to continue to improve this week. Also believe they should get a couple of key guys back from injury this week as well.1 point
-
The Winny/GW game in all honesty could have conceivably been 6-0 at halftime if not for a couple of plays that the Bears made instead of the Raiders. A deep pass that Winnys defender was in great position but the receiver just made a better play for the td. A unfortunate fumble ran back for a td as time expired before half to make it 19-0. As had been stated, GW came out very flat but played better in the second half. I don't see them doing the same against WR. Should be a great game.1 point

I don’t see West Rusk being half as good as Pleasant Grove. Gladewater should dominate this game! The Bears are playing football at a high level. Carthage is the only East Texas 4A team that could probably beat them if GW were still 4A.1 point

If UT’s secondary plays like they did against K-State Murray will look good. If Texas plays well in the defensive backfield OU’s offense will have its work cut out to consistently move the chains.1 point

How is the pass coverage for WR? Because T.C. Minter is starting to be a problem for other teams!1 point

Now what would you do if it were your child ? I don't think you would have the same opinion. Just saying if it were my child only God could protect the other kids father. I am more of an Old Testament kind of guy. I agree with TheLionWire completely. JS1 point

High School Football, where polls are made up and the rankings don't matter. Guess what, nobody cares what were you in a poll during the year if you dont keep winning.... You can be ranked #1 or #100 and if you lose, it wont feel good.1 point

If I am the parent of the kid who was choked and given a concussion I do the following: 1. I address the statement that the coach from University High made and tell everyone that his attitude is EVERYTHING that is wrong with the world and that coaches like that should not leading young men. 2. Unless the UIL punishes this kid to my satisfaction, like a minimum 5 game suspension and a public apology, I will file charges, both criminal and civil. I will find the nastiest attorney in my area who will be a total junkyard dog on this and I will put pressure on my District attorney to convene a grand jury and I would get it because the assault happened in my DA's jurisdiction. 3. The Medical bills, which this kids family has to pay (according to his Mom, he has been to the Concussion Specialist Doc 3 times), will be paid by Waco ISD. If not, I go after them in civil action for the bills AND punitive damages/legal fees. The Days of "Boys will be boys" are OVER. That is an open ended justification for violence that does not belong on any field, gym, or athletic venue.1 point

Coaches making $millions and programs generating $100,000,000 a year in revenue are why coaches that are good men (generally speaking) succumb to the pressure and cover up or ignore things that happen within the program. Money corrupts everything it touches and the love of money remains the root of all evil...and college football is BIG money. As far as Coach Rhule goes...imo he deserves five years just for taking on the Baylor trainwreck.1 point
