  1. Games aren't won or lost on Friday nights. They are won or lost Monday - Thursday. I hear Gilmer kids saying they don't practice as long as they used to, they don't have the same intensity, they're not held to the same standard, the accountability is missing. I don't want to hear that talent is down. When this senior class was in the 8th grade, they won district, and people were saying they might be a state championship contender when they were seniors. I don't blame the kids. Most kids don't know their full potential. It takes coaches who will push, motivate, challenge, inspire, and demand excellence for kids to become all they can be. That's not currently happening at Gilmer. And I hate it for the kids. Hopefully, it will change. The coaches are good men, who care about the kids. They need to apply more tough love, though.

  2. Dont think Harmony can beat them, but think they can beat every other team on this list.

  3. Yes, region 2 is thick. Gladewater and Tatum just battled it out last night for the district title. Jefferson is an absolute beast(IMO). They beat Atlanta not long ago( which was a highly anticipated game).

  4. West's defense has been playing really really well lately. Believe they held Teague to 80 yards total til late in the 4th. As long as they protect the ball they'll make a pretty good run. But yeah I agree I think Franklin eventually comes out on top of this region. West,Yoe,Franklin or GV. I can see any of those 4 teams making it out. No offense Rockdale.

  5. The RB from Jefferson will make the Minny D look like JV. Best cutting RB I have seen in years. Low center of gravity and slick as a greased pig.

  6. My final thoughts after applying some Boudreaux's buttpaste and getting some good rest in my warm bed after a chilly night. Gladewater offense hits another gear with the freshmen at QB but only in the gun in my opinion. Next year Berry and Johhny need to lose the power I and go to the spread/pistol. Allen can play but if yall use him in the I you will never let him use his full talent in my opinion, bright future ahead of him. TC Minter can ball, plain and simple. We had fairly solid coverage on him all night and he made some tough catches. Carter gonna be a stud as well. Once he gets some more power to go with that speed, and it "will" happen in the next 2 seasons, he'll be a complete back and a damn good one. Gladewater did what they had to do to crawl back into this one and took advantage of some missed opportunities by Tatum and got the win. Berry going for 2 was a great call. When we have a healthy OB Jones on the field I am not sure there is a 3A D1 defense that can contain our wide open high octained offense. He's not just an athlete, he's a QB and a hell of a QB at that. Not sure that I have truly ever been able to say that about anybody that has ever taken snaps at Tatum, ever. And if anyone has ever questioned what the kid was made of or what kind of heart he has, he removed all doubt last night. Sophomore RB/Slot Decartiyay Allison is a special type of swiss army knife, kid is a bottle rocket. Gonna be fun to watch the next few years. I could go on and on about the talent we possess but I will chill on the name dropping. Our defense came out strong laying the hat and put us in a great position early and played well enough throughout the game to win it, cards just fell in favor of Gladewater this go around. The future is bright. What it boils down to is Gladewater did what they had to in order to win, and congrats on a hard fought win. Do I think with a healthy OB Jones do we get held to 28 points at the end of regulation? No, nobody in the stands that watched the game can honestly tell you they believe that. But, injuries are part of the game and we had other chances that could have put that game away by the final whistle of regulation. The fumble on the one that resulted in a Gladewater touchback was a tough blow. The missed 3rd qtr FG ended up being huge as well. Gladewater did a great job of capitalizing on those mistakes. One thing is for sure.....Tatum and Gladewater will fill the seats the next 3 years and be worth the admission. Best of luck to Gladewater in the playoffs and i hope we meet again.....with a healthy OB Jones for 4 qtrs lol. Lets regourp and see what Mt Vernon has in store for us. Go Eagles

  7. That can't be overstated...I have watched Alvarez coached teams over the years and it is no secret that I am high on him...but the one thing about his teams that I hate is the cut blocking they do....our defensive linemen are going to take it hard on the hips and knees....

  9. well add the fact that you get to host a playoff game vs a lower rank team. vs go on road and play top 5 team at their place probably makes it a tougher decision. This to me is one of those rare things in life where there is no right or wrong answer. I can see it as smart strategy to get a home playoff game, and give your team a better chance to make a deeper run. But I also see the other side too. Regardless if they lose next week or not, I can understand a coach taking his chances on losing at home vs traveling 3 hrs to Longview to possibly lose.

The two schools have never played on November 16th. LAST FIVE GAMES IN SERIES First Meeting FULL GAME LOG GAME PREVIEW & SERIES REVIEW Perfect. That's what the Longview Lobos accomplished on Friday night against Mesquite with a 55-24 victory. A perfect 10-0 season, the first since 2005, gave Longview an outright district championship and just their 10th 10-0 season in program history. Three of those 10 have come under head coach John King, who improved to 162-36 overall as head coach of the Lobos and 84-6 in district play in his 15 seasons. The Lobos also won their 13th district title in those 15 seasons under King, but just their first outright title since 2014 (were tri-champions with Marshall/Texas High in 2015 and co-champions in 2016 with John Tyler). With the win, the Lobos will get to host their 2nd consecutive bi-district contest. This time, unlike last year against a foe that had previously knocked them out the year before, the Lobos will face a foe that they have no history or familiarity with. The Copperas Cove Bulldawgs. The Bulldawgs won their way into the post season by upsetting the Temple Wildcats by a 22-18 scoreline. The Dawgs trailed 18-7 in the 4th quarter before mounting a huge comeback victory to hand the Wildcats their second consecutive loss. The Lobos are currently riding a 13-game winning streak at home, having not lost since 2016 against John Tyler. Longview is 78-5 officially at Lobo Stadium under John King (with one forfeit), dating back to 2004. Longview comes into their bi-district game with a 12-2 records in Bi-District contests under John King. Both losses have come by 1-point (14-13 vs South Garland, 34-33 at Beaumont West Brook). This is just the 4th time Longview will host a bi-district game at the "new" Lobo Stadium. In 1984, Bryan came into Lobo Stadium and knocked off the Lobos 24-14. In 2009, Longview trailed 7-3 after one quarter against Whitehouse before taking over for a 52-9 victory. And last season, Longview led 7-6 at halftime over Beaumont West Brook before dominating the 3rd and 4th quarters for a 42-21 victory. Cove heads into Lobo Stadium, entering the post season for the 13th time in the last 14 seasons. However, the Dawgs have not won a playoff game since 2011 when they knocked off Mesquite Horn, 48-47. Since then, Cove has lost 6 post season games in a row (Rowlett, Cedar Hill, DeSoto, Rockwall, Rockwall and DeSoto). Last season's 44-6 loss was the first time since 2012 (remembering they made the post season in 2013, 2014 and 2015) that they had kept a team they were playing under 67 points. The post season is finally here, a time that Longview fans, players and coaches have been waiting for since last December. Let the good times roll. 16. He can’t advance it unless it was blocked. It wasn’t blocked. It was a shank. The day they change the rules where you can start kicking the ball to another player and advancing it I will stop watching football. Last I checked that is called soccer

  17. Doesn't really matter. They won't have ANY problems beating Gilmer.

  18. Doesn't matter kicking team cannot advance the ball unless blocked , then recovered by receiving team and fumbled. Doesn't matter either because punt was shanked not blocked

  19. Hate to hear that about QB1, I really hope he is able to be healthy for this game. As much as I respect Tatum and how talented they are, I will echo what has been said already. DO NOT take these purple tigers lightly. They wont be the biggest, or the fastest, but I promise you they will be as prepared as anyone. I believe that it will be a great game, look forward to watching it.

  21. Yeah, just seen a textbook tackle where he put the quarterback out of the game. Could definitely use him over here. Our defense hasn't quite figured out that you aren't supposed to let the quarterback run past you.

  23. This is the first time in history that all five Shelby County teams have made the playoffs. 3 #2 seeds (Center, Joaquin, Shelbyville), 1 #3 (Tenaha) 1 #4 (Timpson). I don’t know Center’s matchup, but Joaquin plays West Sabine, Tenaha plays Shelbyville, and Timpson faces San Augustine.

  24. They can and will if Tatum is not 100%. Anyone that thinks this will be a cakewalk will be scratching their head or butt come Friday morning. Tatum would have had a more favorable matchup against Atl bc of style of play.

  35. Yeah it just shows 2 things 1) If you play sloppy, teams WILL make you pay for it. Even teams that aren't as talented as you are. Mesquite led us 24-20 cause we didn't play well and they made us pay for it. and 2) When Longview DOES play well, there aren't many teams that can go toe-to-toe with them.

  41. I would have liked to watch the JV game too, they have been battling since Jr High. It will be fun to watch this year's Sophmore class on varsity next year, 12 for Carthage are on Varsity. Tons of talent coming for the next few years. The Freshman game sounded very interesting, those are also 2 good teams. Looking for forward to the district games next year. Go Dawgs!!

  42. I think this may help you. May. Imo, I believe what he is trying to tell you, the juniors and sophomores that would have been brought up this year, were not, as the positions they play are already filled by pretty good sophomores and juniors on the varsity. Kilgore's junior and sophomore classes are pretty talented. The varsity is relying heavily on juniors and sophomores. I believe we have or have had 5-7 sophomore starters, at least that I can think of off the top of my head, and several more I'm sure I either don't know about or can't think of at the moment. Now lets go back and talk about JV teams. Our JV has a few talented backs. Why would we move those backs up to the varsity just to ride the pine. Would you rather see that, or have them develop on the JV squad, where they will actually play. Same thing with our d-line and linebackers. 3-4 of those kids could be playing on the varsity right now, but guess what, that's hard to do when you have 5-6 other guys at the same positions already there. I would rather see those kids get playing time on the JV over riding the pine on varsity. Third thing. Why would we NOT be excited about a JV team that is the first to go undefeated in approximately 20 years, and is 16-2 over the past two seasons? It's quite an accomplishment. Does that mean we think that they will translate that to going undefeated on varsity and destroying everyone? Of course not, however, it is an indication of the talent we have coming, and or their ability to play together as a team. Take it how you will. I hope this helps!

  43. Carthage will win it all. You people kill me. Does anyone remember how bad we beat our district last year. About the same way as this year. Pre season games were about the same as well. We played a Marshall team and beat them soundly and they will make a run in 5a. We beat a very good Pg team. Everyone wants to compare us to last year did we ever run for 337 as a team last year in a single game well that happened Friday night against Henderson. Our defense is awesome and our offense is really good. Carthage will walk into the semi finals and liberty hill will see how good we are. La vega and Argyle is a toss up both really good either one will be good game for the Dawgs at Jerry’s World. Dawgs don’t lose championship games so Carthage carries the streak into next year and goes for four in a row and in case everyone is wondering we are absolutely loaded and this thing may go to five in a row in 2021. The talent is as good as it has ever been in Title town.

  44. Wow that was one of the coolest freshman games I’ve ever been to. Kilgore and Carthage’s 9th grade have been throttling people all year, and they get together and the final ends up being 22-21. I can’t remember seeing a freshman level game where both sets of coaches were coaching that hard as well as both sets of fans getting that loud for a Thursday night game. Excellent job to both teams, I have a feeling Kilgore/Carthage is going to be awesome the next few years.

  47. I agree. I got nothing but respect for their kids and their coaches and for MOST of their fans. The ones I have an issue with are a very small, very vocal group that doesn’t know A-gap from a hole in the ground. They have constantly complained about three different head coaches. Those three coaches combined to lead them to ten consecutive winning seasons, nine quarterfinal appearances, five semifinals, three trips to Jerry world, and a State championship. And they weren’t happy. Now, they don’t seem to appreciate what their kids and coaches have done this year. They graduated 90% of their offensive production from a year ago, including three and four year starters all over the field. They went through a coaching staff change, and moved up from a very weak Division 2 district to the toughest Division 1 district in the state. And they came within 9 points of winning it. They don’t seem to get the difference in the level of competition, particularly depth. When they got key players banged up in D2, they could sit those kids till they were healthy and never know the difference because their sophomores and freshmen were still head and shoulders better than the seniors they lined up against. That’s not necessarily the case anymore. They’re not the big school in their district, they’re the smallest. It’s a huge step up in competition. Their coaches get it, and most of their fans do. It’s just that small, vocal group that is keeping things stirred up instead of supporting their kids. I guess I need to start a Tenaha/ LK thread to move this discussion to.
