"We got a lot of diversity on our football team. We got rich ones, poor ones, black ones, white ones, Hispanics. We got it all. And they walk through that fieldhouse and they bleed green. They walk out of that fieldhouse and these dudes will bleed green the rest of their lives. Thatβs home. Iβm proud to say that Longview, Texas, is my home." Greatness.3 points

So, if a kid had a choice of playing the biggest game of his life in Jerryβs World or The Alamo Dome you think they would pick San Antonio? Donβt think so. You canβt match the experience that you get at AT&T.2 points

I really don't how you can improve the experience more than it already is. A great change was playing 3 games on Saturday instead of 4. You now don't have games ending at 1:00AM. I always laugh at the folks who think they are going to reserve seats for school fans at the championship games. Most of those 50k folks in Jerryworld are casual fans. The hardcore fans show up at the start of the first game and jockey themselves to a great seat. Every year I see near fist fights because folk try to reserve 10+ seats for family and friends. These folks think it's okay to show up 5 minutes to kickoff and get a seat at the 50 yard line. One lady at the Duncanville game tried to reserve 2 entire rows and cussed out the security guard when he told her she could not this. She seem to lack understanding on what general admission means. One lady ask me to move down to the next row because she was trying to reserve 8 seats. I just gave her the biggest go to hell look you can imagine.2 points

How about alternate the team of Mark and Grayghost with you and Wolfman. Doomer and I can be sideline reporters. Itβll be a hoot and a half.1 point

From the Dallas Morning News The UIL uses NCAA rules for replay, with two exceptions β there are no coaches challenges (all reviews are initiated by replay officials) and a targeting call can't initiate from the replay booth. The UIL didn't include coaches challenges because "we felt like that would put a strategy in the game that coaches haven't been utilizing all year," Elza said. The UIL used college replay officials for its state championship games. A primary replay official, with help from a replay assistant, made the final call in the booth on each review. https://sportsday.dallasnews.com/high-school/high-schools/2018/12/22/early-results-instant-replay-texas-high-school-football-championships-uils-plan-system-moving-forward1 point

I posted this on another thread, but decided to bring it over hear since there is still chatter on this one. My butt is still chaffing from the insane calls made by the officials. Not just in the Newton game, the Whittington kid and a Highland park kid got screwed out of beautiful catches because of dumb rule interpretations. Here goes!! Anotherο»Ώ suggestion is to adopt specific rules for using the replay, review process. They should do just like Major League Baseball. Once thο»Ώe reviewο»Ώ ruling is made, the official on the ground has no say. After clear and convincing evidence is established, the replay official makes the call, no argument by coaches or officials. Just like Judge Roy Bean "that's my rullin'." Thereβs a difference in a coach having a couple of good seasons and a guy that dominated a district and a region for a decade and a half or more. Jmho.1 point

Forgot to mention that the Lobos also picked up a win over Mesquite Horn last Friday in their 11-6A opener, 61-54, in Mesquite. Lobos now 10-12 all-time against the Jags. https://lobohistory.com/basketball/lobos/gamelogs/mesquitehorn.html Longview improved to 16-2 (1-0) on the season and won their 12th consecutive game.1 point

I live in the Houston area and you are absolutely correct about the drop in attendance, and to compound the problem the local businesses (hotels, restaurants, etc.) didn't have a clue that the championship games were being held at NRG. I've been to the event at both stadiums and had a much better experience at Jerry's World.1 point

Youβre barking up the wrong tree here Jedi. Youβre gonna search every corner of the state of Texas looking for someone who will be more critical of the UIL than me, but they got this one right.1 point

No, simple as that. The kids want to play on a big stage, under a roof, in front of tons of people on TV. Why would you take that away from them just so you have a shorter drive?1 point

Coach Wood from Aledo is a class act. The corner on him #10 also showed class giving him a pat on the helmet. Very classy by that kid.1 point

I always told 'em don't play the game if you don't love it; it's not for everybody ... it ain't about me; they're not quitting me - but they just may be quitting on themselves ... I always worry about quitting becoming a way of life. But I'm sure he's doing fine thirty-plus years after the fact. Karma says he's probably on the school board somewhere. The Bear said this - "The first time you quit is hard. The second time, it gets easier. The third time, you don't even have to think about it."1 point

Yes sir, Pax, Gunter was very good. They would have played Newton much closer this year than they did last year. This year flew by fast - too fast, but it was very fun. There were some really good teams this year in 3A D2. I realize that one poster does not have any respect for the teams that are out west, but I wish that the smoaky folks could have seen Abernathy and Childress play football. Those two teams had some real power. Very well disciplined, physical, and would lay the wood. I believe that the smoaky fellas who appreciate physical football would have enjoyed seeing those two teams play. Yall have a Merry Christmas!1 point

Bands are part of high school football. No one is holding you at gun point and forcing you to watch their performance. Might I suggest you use halftime as an opportunity to use the restroom and visit the concession stand.1 point

They guy who caught those passes was a beast. He is a Dez Bryant clone with more size and is just a sophomore. They were short passes that he took the distance. I can't think of any DB's who would have stop him.1 point

Band is part of football. The band worked hard and supported the team all year, those kids deserve to do their thing in Jerry World too. This is not the NFL, a league that could go broke for all I care and I certainly would not miss them.1 point

Could not care any less about the bands. Unfortunately have to endure them for 28 minutes every week with some of the most ridiculous performances imaginable. Whatever happened to good old fashioned military style marching bands instead of all the show bands or whatever they're called. Can't stand all the leaning side-to-side and having band members trying to even dance. Silly.1 point

Lady Lobos picked up their biggest win of the season to date with a 67-52 win over Mesquite Horn, a big upset in 11-6A play. Win was Longview's first over Horn since 2006, and their first in 18 tries. Longview now 13-5 (1-1) on the season. https://lobohistory.com/basketball/ladylobos/gamelogs/mesquitehorn.html1 point

Lower the concession stand prices from NFL price to High School price.1 point
-
I like to go watch all the games, and I know there are others who do that. Setting aside the fact that this would never work, it's also not fair for those who paid the price of admission which is good all day, and showed up early to get a good seat. I cant speak for everyone else who does this, but while I might not be wearing your school colors, I'm a fan of whatever team whose fans I am sitting among for that game. You should be happy to have the added support and noise. And even if I wasnt cheering for your team and just enjoying a state championship football game, if you're gonna kick me out of my seat for not being from your town, you might as well kick out people who are from your town who dont cheer loud enough and aren't paying attention or are wearing the wrong colors. What's the difference?1 point
