Coach Griedl is thinking outside the box for the proposed practice facility. He’s looking at something similar to what they just completed at UAB. It’s covered.... So practices can continue during inclement weather, but without the cost of heating or cooling a 120 yard area. It’s more of a pavilion. It could be used by all sports teams year round. Band, drill team, ROTC, and other groups could benefit too. Interesting concept. Surprised this isn’t more common. AND it’s a standard sized football field instead of a portion like many indoor facilities. I like it.3 points

Most fans don't know the rules enough of a sport. So out of ignorance, they holler out bs to the refs. And to be quite honest, I think some of them make fools of themselves, whether they're right or wrong about a call a ref had made.2 points

Shelbyville is big and plays pressure defense; I’ve seen them play 2 or 3 times this season...they have all facets of the game pretty much. Cushing plays pressure defense as well. Shelbyville should win by a comfortable margin. If Cushing can’t get its offense going then it will be by a lot. If the Bearkats hit their 3’s like they are capable it will be a lot closer.2 points

Yes, I agree lol. That's why I try to sit at games by myself or with other knowledgeable ppl. What I've been seeing lately here in my area (since i got back in 2014) is ppl are getting escorted out the stadiums or gyms more, I didn't see that before.1 point

Shelbyville is the team to beat in 2A in my opinion (doesn't mean very much). #4 Big Sandy lost by 13 to them (respectable) and only shot 25% for the game. How much of that was Shelbyville's defense though? Shelbyville gets you taking shots you normally wouldn't because you have the opportunity to actually get a shot off. Going to be some GOOD games from here on out (I hope)!1 point

If they can’t take abuse from a coach then they shouldn’t be out there. If a parent is allowed to verbally abuse them, then the school should be reported and punished imo1 point

Woden’s gym is plenty big... it’s one of the largest gyms for a 2A school and pretty much will hold as many as Lufkin’s or Hudson’s gym.1 point

Need thick skin and the ability to own your mistakes. Too many officials can’t keep their emotions in check during a game. Coming into this they should know 3 things. 1. The home team wants to win 2. The away team wants to win. 3. The loser will blame the officials no matter what.1 point

Because there's a little something called football participation numbers that outweigh enrollment. Not to mention at Longview, there isn't just numbers....there's also talent. Longview won 16 games in 2018, and 11 of those teams had higher enrollments than Longview. Hell, Westfield currently has like 1500 more kids than Longview. Just speaking facts.1 point

Here is A little info on Darren Allman-Coached at Permian from 2004-2008, comprised a record of 42-17 in his 5 seasons. 2004- 4-6, 2005-5-5, 2006-9-4 2007-12-1-Only loss was to eventual State Champion Trinity 38-14 2008-12-1-Only loss was to eventual State Champion Allen 28-22 Left in 2009 and went to Austin Westlake from 2009-2015 where he was the HC/AD-Record of 45-21-2 State Title appearances 2015-Went to Colleyville Heritage as AD/HC-went 5-6 Losing to eventual State Champion Cedar Hill. 2016-2018-Went to South Lake Carroll and was AD only-Ran into a power struggle with the HC-and was reassigned ad coach was dismissed. A possible Coach/AD coming from the who's who of TX HS FB to Nac is a little shocking!!! Seems to be a home run for a program short on success.1 point

Climate wise yes. Permain is better on just about every other matrix. No community support. No winning tradition. No expectations. Facility lag. Did I mention no community support? Night and day from Permian.1 point

And yes..... I think we would have gone (3-4) in the district. That’s nothing to brag about at all. But I don’t think we would have been winless. Jmho.1 point

From Anahuac, Baytown is 20 minutes, Beaumont is 30 minutes, Pasadena/Deer Park is 45 minutes. A lot of people are trying to get out of Barbers Hill, heading to Anahuac.1 point

You’re only allowed to put 11 on the field at one time. Yes, I am completely aware at some point enrollment does make a difference; it’ll mainly give you better depth. Larger enrollment can give you better top end talent, but does not guarantee it. This is part of why I’m always for smaller schools challenging themselves by player larger classification schools in non-district games to push themselves against what could be a superior opponent for their own improvement.1 point

Unfortunately, parents and coaches are driving away officials. I have officiated two sports for a few years now and each time out there I try to think about how I can make this extra money without getting verbally assaulted. And it's not just high school games, it's middle school and youth sports that are just as bad. The idea that some parents and coaches have that when I show up I have certain teams I want to win so I "cheat" for them is mind-blowing. In the last two years I have had a coach charge us from the bench and just a few weeks ago a parent come on to the basketball floor to yell at my partner. Coaches have thrown things at officials and called guys names that are unbelievable. Kudos to guys who do it all the time. I will continue to do it because in some instances I enjoy it. But it's tough!0 points

Longview don’t want none of NorthShore just be happy for split divisions.0 points

So it would “affect” some but not Longview? Lol0 points

When I was in HS, we beat Allen once and played them really close the other two times. Heck as easily as we went 1-2 against em, we could've went 3-0. Longview had 2,005 enrollment at that time while Allen had over 5K. Playing bigger schools may effect some, but wouldn't effect LV much because the football participation is high here. And as I pointed out before...the LV program is just full of competitors yearly.-1 points

Wait a minute!!! I thought it was a foregone conclusion that teams can’t play up and compete strictly because the bigger team would just be better. That’s the argument Longview fans have given for several years here on sdc. Now they’re changing their minds!?!? (Hint of sarcasm)-1 points

You were using the opposite argument when it pertained to Carthage/Longview! Fact....-1 points
