  1. This part of your comment really confuses me, and really makes me wonder (as I've pointed out before), if you're truly incapable of acknowledging anything positive when it comes to Texas. Let's start with their overall performance on the season. I agree that their defense has been questionable; I've acknowledged that numerous times. However, in the 5 games they've played so far, they've scored over 35 points in each contest, with well over 400 yards of offense each contest (500 in 3 of them). That's not enough to show you the offense is legit? Now let's look at what they did in the LSU game. They were well over 500 yards offense and 38 points. And that's not including another TD that they literally dropped. And they were still within a half yard of Colin Johnson not sliding out of bounds to recover the onside kick away from one more shot at sending the game to OT. Yes, that was only 1 game. It was also 1 game against a team that you have slated as one of the Top 3 teams in the country. That doesn't 'show' you anything?

  2. Funny to me that everyone who says "yeah, I would bring my kids over to play for that coach." You just are proving why the UIL has these rules in place. A student is NOT eligible if you move for athletic reasons. Someone else hit on the other issue of the coach/photographer/documentary producer. Again, UIL has these rules in place to where you cannot just come off the streets and be a coach. (Hearing pretty solid evidence on this one) As far as other schools are scared of playing MV or butt hurt about getting beat. What was Finney's record last 2 seasons at MV? Double digit wins in both seasons? Were any accusations brought up then? NONE! DEC is doing their job. That is why they are there. Yes it is being appealed. And I wouldn't be surprised on either ruling. I believe that MV is a good team with or without those kids. MV will weather the storm and bounce back. I 100% believe that. But when you hire someone like this coach and his reputation (either true or false) you have to expect these things to happen.

  3. There are a lot of schools where a good portion of the kids get their only guaranteed meals of the day from the school..thats a disadvantage...the biggest difference for the richer schools is # of coaches, quality of coaches, facilities, and off-season..while kids in poorer schools often work in the summer...kids from more wealthy backgrounds can hire personal trainers, speed coaches, go to a ton of camps etc....

  4. Even better. I was only looking from 1970, but you're correct. From 1964, Longview has just four losing records, and two .500 seasons, good for 50 winning seasons in 55 years/56 seasons.

  5. To some degree that's the parents fault. I raised 9 kids on one small income with a stay at home mom. My kids ate fine. You have to sacrifice having nice phones, shoes, and trips to the salon and put food on the table. You want to know true poverty visit a 3rd world shole like Afghanistan.

  6. Just Because the DEC made a ruling isn't in fact the UIL that will make the final ruling? Also this happens all the dang time in Texas Coaches are constantly having to go to Austin to get a kid eligible for football or whatever sport. Did these parents move their kid to MV for Briles 100% a fact I am sure heck I would do the same if I had a son!!!!! It does not matter though if the parents can make the UIL see they moved for other reasons which 95% of the time the parent can prove the move. This DEC committee is a bunch of crawfishing MF who made the kids eligible then went back on it because of some other accusation and to me they should not be allowed to do such a thing and that is why we have the UIL because they will make final judgement if I am not wrong.

  7. In regards to the ineligibility of the two players, I think most people are missing the bigger picture. This is a dangerous precedent that this DEC has just set. Let's say, hypothetically, of course, your team has a move-in or transfer player that was approved by the DEC. He plays 3 or 4 games, and then a school in the district files a complaint about said player and a hearing is held and said player is again ruled eligible. A few weeks go by, and your team has won more games with said player, and then another complaint is filed by either that same team or another team in the district for reasons they would probably never admit to, and this time, your player is ruled ineligible. So. based on the comments I have been reading here, most of y'all would have no problem with your team forfeiting your wins with a player who was only playing after being ruled eligible twice, AND you would blame your coach for playing the player. I truly doubt that you would be okay with it, but I have to assume you would be since most of you seem to think that multiple hearings with different rulings is okay. This precedent of eligible, eligible, no, wait ineligible just invites schools with a vendetta to file complaints over and over again until they get the ruling they want. It may be all fun and games to you now because you think you have eliminated a district threat, but I highly doubt it will be as much fun when the shoe is on the other foot.

  8. All I’m arguing in that in the past decade a lot of East teams get ranked a lot higher than they should just because of the fact they don’t have to play the best teams in their own conference.

  10. OU always has a great OL, and I think that is true again this year. Although, I do think it will be tough to replace both starting tackles (everything I've seen, as recent as yesterday, still says both are most likely out). But as for comparing the stats you shared, let's be fair about one thing...The first few weeks of the season, Texas had an injured RB, and a QB, playing RB.

  11. How many times are you going to have to ask this question? And why do you insist on posting about this drama? Are you classifying yourself in this same bunch you speak of?

  12. When 99 per cent of the town LOVES Coach Briles and about 3 don't, that's not a split between 2 portions of the town dude. That's just the 3 most loudmouthed and unliked troublemakers going against the entire town. Like I said before, the Baylor players should have been punished not Coach Briles. The players were old enough to know what they were doing was wrong. Coach Briles is a gentleman and he doesn't do stuff like that to ladies.

  13. I dont believe its the cart before the horse. Im sure The UIL committee has an agenda and schedule and they have scheduled the MV case for Tuesday.

  14. Let me change gears here, whats the rule, policy on failing a drug test? Is it the particular school to set the punishment for failing a drug test? Is it the UIL that sets the punishment for a player’s 1st time failing a drug test?

  15. Is he the best coach? I could make an argument that Ed is doing a hell of a job in HS this season. I mean realistically speaking.

  17. That’s not how facts work. You cant make a statement with “could” and then call it a fact. IMO Texas is just a bad matchup for Florida. I don’t think Texas right now is a great team but some games are just matchup problems for teams. Texas can stop the run (see Sugar Bowl), as I’m sure Florida would try and do to Texas too. So now it comes down to Trask vs Ehlinger to win a game with their arm and legs. If you’re not betting on Sam in that scenario then good luck.

  19. This entire saga at MV has been hard to wrap my mind around. I hate all this drama for the kids. To be horsewhipped and almost hung due to ineligible players, then to clear them and now to start the mud slinging again. GOOD GRIEF Live the American Dream- Be a DRAMA MOMMA

  20. This junior class, along with the seniors that are left, are a special group. I have watched these boys play since Junior High, since my son is also a Junior, and they have plenty of talent. We all know that defense wins Championships, and this defense is showing signs of getting better each week and being a wrecking ball in the playoffs. Surratt will have the offensive issues worked out and they will be firing on all cylinders. I know Carthage is not bulletproof by no means, but they have a pretty good suit of armour that they are trying to build. Go Dawgs!!

  23. Me coming from Newton, I think being in an area that once was called below poverty, that toughness is en-stilled quickly, the character of the individuals and heart tends to show up quickly. I wish we had industry and descent jobs but we don't.We do have a good school and the Lord has blessed us with great coaches, the type coaches that coach or preach character, moral values, and how precious life is. They teach the kids that without test, there would be no testimonies and that entitlement is a bad deal.Anyway, most kids from Newton have character and heart, I wonder if it is how the families, community ,school and coaches groom the kids. We do seem to do pretty good in football each year.

  25. I just feel like Carthage is the ultimate contender, especially when their staff believes this is the best team Carthage has ever fielded.

  26. I'm guessing they are going to fight it. I can't see them just letting this ride. I would like to know the repercussions too. One things for sure. They wouldn't overturn it unless they had some solid/strong evidence.

  28. I think Carthage has D-I... Argyle struggles on defense & they are young. So, I don't see them winning it.. Don't sleep on La Vega they will probably be the team to creep up on Carthage ( they are solid both ways). I still have Carthage as my top team coming out D-1.

  30. I don’t know where my school ranks on the poverty scale, now or my senior year of 1990. I can tell you there have never been a lot of rich folks around here. But we ate good. During football season, my mom never had to clean out her refrigerator. It got cleaned out every Friday afternoon when 6-8 of my friends showed up. Tru storie!

  31. Yea now that they beat some teams in district it’s all of a sudden a problem

  32. I am not surprised by any of it. Transfers happen all over the state..even at some big time East Texas programs. The point of my comment was the scrutiny is greater because it is Art Briles and the small town of Mount Vernon.

  33. We were defending state finalist and had started (3-1) in district play. That loss to Nac was costly. We lost to WH the following week 35-34. We would have made the playoffs with our win over Kilgore in the season finale..... but Whitehouse opted to "rest their starters" (translated: they purposely lost their last game to avoid playing state ranked Texas High in the first round of the playoffs). WH's squat kept Marshall at home.... and it sent Nac to Div I to play Texas High. WH dropped to Div II. I don't blame WH's squatting for us not making the playoffs..... that was on us. BUT..... them purposely losing to "duck" out on playing Texas High is still MIND BLOWING to me. McFarland got crucified for that decision by most HSFB fans in East Texas. Especially here on SDC. Of course.....WH fans declared it a brilliant move. FWIW.... I went over to Tyler and cheered for Nac in that first round game Vs. Texas High. I remember all the talk in 2006, 07, 08ish of the Whitehouse dynasty..... even though it never materialized. But can't forget that squat. It was epic. East Texas football lore.....for sure.

  35. Maybe. Wisconsin is probably but the other two are up for debate. I think some of the hype surrounding Texas dies down after this weekend.

  36. I get the scrutiny. However, if you are the head coach of a program and you have a student move in from out of town, and he is a heck of an athlete, and he is cleared to play by your counterparts in your district, and he can help your team, are you supposed to not play them?? Honest question, not being a smarta$$

  42. Never hear about the Kurds that I don’t remember the 60 Minutes Story of Saddam dropping nerve gas on their villages, not long before invading Kuwait, killing hundreds of men, women and children. Then we go into Iraq and didn’t find any WMD’s, and the Leftist Media said, “See, they never had any WMD’s.” Conveniently forgetting all the Kurds killed by them. And speaking of Media, on FB I posted a link by Judicial Watch. A liberal poster posted a link by MediaBiasFactCheck, calling Judicial Watch a conservative biased news outlet. After researching, I responded that MBFC called all the major News sources liberal biased, except FOX who they labeled conservative biased. Then she posted a long list from MBFC of Least Biased. I pointed our that these were “least” but still biased. So essentially, all News is biased. Btw, the head of MBFC was a former clerk for Harry Blackmun, at the time, the most liberal SCOTUS Justice on the court. Essentially, everything you read is biased, except opinions by me, CarthDawg, WH1, TrueBlue, Wild, and Kirt.

  43. If Nac loses this game.... making the playoffs is going to be TOUGH. They would be (1-2).... and have PT and Marshall next on the docket. If they split PT/Marshall... the best they could hope for would be (4-3). Which is likely good enough to get in. BUT if If they lose to BOTH Marshall AND Pine Tree.... (3-4) could be. That's likely a no on the playoffs (barring some strange things happening at the end of the season). Which would be harder for Nac? Beating a big time passing game from PT at Dragon Stadium, or beating Marshall on the road? Beat WH... and they are still in the middle of the playoff chatter. But a loss.... and things are going to get real tight in Dragon Land for the final weeks.

  44. Here’s another thought. Briles may not have recruited these kids. His name and legacy speak volumes without him saying a word. Who’s to say these kids didn’t just move in to play for this guy and get the best out of their athletic career? Just a thought.

  45. If Briles wasn't there & the kids still transferred in, nobody would be saying anything.
