  1. Folks we have been privileged to watch historic games and seasons under John King. Y’all should have been watching 82 through 96 and then some. I remember when making it to the second or third round was awesome. I remember beating Highland Park like a drum then getting robbed against Plano. Other that that we just couldn’t go very far. 3 state championship appearances and 2 semifinals in 11 years. That was what dreams were made of back in the day. We are blessed. Thank you Coach King and company.

  2. I know what you're talking about there. Gotta have contact in practice to get the body and mind ready for contact on Friday night. I know they do lift weights and I think they lift at an appropriate level. Nothing to kill themselves just enough to keep the body use to bearing weight and maintain current strength / body mass levels. I know my thoughts mean zero to the powers that be, however it has been my experience that when you start practice Monday with a team wide tackling drill you set the tone for Friday night right then. Whip them kids into a frenzy where their intensity level hits 11 out of 10. I played for coaches that conducted practices this way and were more successful vs. coaches that didn't. I loved seeing them hang 74 points up on the board last Saturday night. It was awesome! I realize that you could argue that we basically gave them their last TD, maybe their last two TD's. We had several back ups in on D at that time. Plus Hemphill's tandem RB's were talented and ran hard. Usually took more than one defender to bring them to the ground. I don't know if folks realize this or not but our LB unit is arguably one of the best around. #4 & #31 are the top two tacklers for our district. At the end of Week 11 according to Max Preps, they both were in the top 5 in the state for our division with #4 being at the top of that list with 135 tackles for the 10 game season. Our DB's have performed well when challenged and our DL has stepped up and improved with the DC change. Despite having 50 pts laid on us this past week to a team with a really good ground game, I feel like we are poised to start playing better D!

  3. Especially after years and years of 1937 being thrown around and constantly being told that we'd never win the big one (all of this mostly coming from fans of programs currently sitting at home). We deserve this. Its our time. And its only the beginning. More good times coming in the future.

  4. We get to that point in the season, I want ATT or The Star. Controlled environment. Don't want another Midway episode happening. Lawd thank the defense against Westfield last year too cause Waco was miserable as hell.

  5. Rex Sharp? How many others on this thread have spear headed a first in program history run this season?

  6. I was glad when I heard Joe beat ole Shelbyville. Been waiting all season to whoop up on Joaquin When y’all are still wondering why your bottoms hurt so bad on Saturday, check and make sure you pulled all of the stinger out of ya Friday can’t come soon enough

  7. Beyond blessed no doubt. King has taken us to an absolutely unbelievable level out in the Pineywoods. Seeing where JT is, where Lee has been, what Lp just went through, not to mention the 5A programs, just gotta enjoy the run as long as possible. Never thought we’d see something like what we’re experiencing at Longview.

  8. I agree. We’ve got some kids coming thru the Middle School right now that are some good ball players, both football and baseball. EF should be fine talent wise for the foreseeable future.

  9. EF will always be a football school and we look to be having a special run here this year and possibly next But the next 3-5 years in baseball we should be one the best teams in 3A in the state. JMO but remember I said it !

  10. Thank you for the kind words! My wife was raised in EF but I wasn’t. I’ve never felt like an outsider though. I shake more hands and are greeted by more people now at the games than I ever was in Benton. We are proud to be a part of this community and want nothing but success for EF ISD!

  11. Honestly, I think you were right to buy in. We've regressed since the season started. We're talking about a team that was 1 catch away from going into OT against the best team in the nation. I'm not sure what has happened since week 2, but it's definitely going the wrong direction. I mean, in all reality, it seems like at one time, our offense was all that was keeping us afloat. Now, the defense has stepped up to an extent, and the offense just keeps falling on it's face. How does this happen?? I mean seriously. We went from having the worst defense in the history of UT, forcing our offense to put up 40-50 points per game to win AGAINST MEDIOCRE AT BEST TEAMS, to really being a rock these last 2 games. What's even worse about losing games that you should be winning, is losing them inconsistently. If the defense is the problem, then I'd rather have that problem all year. It's crazy to think how they just keep going back and forth between which side of the ball will perform this week, and which won't. I will say this though. The defense being as bad as they were, was a new development. I feel like they're getting some things figured out there. But, the offense and offensive play-calling has been a consistent issue. Maybe it's Herman, maybe it's Beck. I'm not sure. What I do know is, Texas is the least likely team in all of football (that I watch anyways) to make big plays. Our longest rush was RJ's 54 yarder against OU, but the next longest is 34. I honestly believe the play design at Texas is just not designed to create any sort of open receiver, or mass amounts of running room. We never confuse defenses. We never have a series of plays that sets up a possible big play. We run bubble screens, which I've always felt were to set up a deep ball, but we never fake the bubble lol. I'm just rambling. There's just so much bad and inconsistency, it's hard to keep up with or stay consistent on what to criticize. It changes from day to day.

  12. Really hard. Really.....really hard. Remember the Red river game last year. He went ultra conservative and gave up a 24 pt lead. It isn’t just in tight games. He puckers up in every situation. Foot on the gas and blow them out

  13. I have something to admit. I bought in to the hype. I let a 10 win season and a Sugar Bowl win (even though it took 14 games to get 10 wins) get to my head and think this team was better than they really are. Truth is, they are just a slightly above average football team. Making progress? Sure, I believe that. But I was being told this team was a possible playoff team this year. I bought in to it. I own up to that. I have to face reality. There's talent there that is scary good. The young guys will grow the next couple of years and Texas will be fine. The talent is developing, which is something that late Mack Brown/Charlie Strong couldn't do. I give Herman that credit. But the coaching gameplan is not there. The X's and O's are baaaad. It's not that the product on the field is bad, it's that what's going on in the press box and being passed down through the headsets (or vice versa) is so wrong. That has become evident over the past couple of games. Here's to a 2019 Texas Bowl. We'll get em next year. Hook'em

  16. This is awesome.... ALLLto has beens are great to belittle and make fun of.... They’re really good sports about it...... can’t say that about SA..... I hope they all have flat tires and spill coffee in their laps.

  18. Where’d I say blow out? Maybe you should scroll back through and find that. We are going to beat y’all is what I personally have said. And we will. There’s no false sense of confidence in Jacket land. Our kids are confident that they cant be beat and we wouldn’t want them feeling any other way. But blow out? I never said it, although I will not be surprised in the least if it happens. We blew out a team a classification above us 50-0 who just lost by a mere 10 to the #3 team in the state. You guys have beat nobody. If we are able to put a night like that together again then maybe you’ll get the blow out you’ve accused me of predicting. Lights. Camera. Action.

  19. I played with some studs and I’ve watched some studs come through Joaquin. Connor is by far the best All around athlete I’ve ever seen at Joaquin. But what makes his so special to me is the kids football IQ is through the roof.

  20. This was #4's rookie year for defense. Up until this year he was only playing Slot/TE/WR position. I can see that him playing LB has improved his skills on the offensive side of the ball. He's gotten very comfortable with contact. Coming to EF has been a great move for us and him. We are surrounded with good people that care! We are very hopeful for what the future holds.

  22. Alto boys better tighten up jockstraps this week. No more cupcakes with losing records to play in the playoffs
    2 points
  23. When you say you “strongly dislike Groveton”, and Alto are “has beens” (though this year’s record and stats suggest otherwise), “Joaquin’s a cupcake”... you do realize that you’re talking about a bunch of high school kids, right? 15-18 year olds. You’d be ashamed to tell them that you are from Alto, and that you root for that team, yet you somehow always avoid telling everyone which town you’re from and what team you root for each Friday night (besides your state hospital cracks). Anyone who truly feels that way about a group of kids, is fundamentally flawed, and their opinion is irrelevant anyway.

  25. No, I read them, and I can comprehend far beyond your third grade reading material of your counterpart. You see, I look far past opinions, but search for facts. That's something that you fail to do. A slant of opinion does not make someones statement or article a fact. I read many articles that aren't up for consumption of the masses. I desire true journalistic integrity. That's something that you fail to see , with your blinders on. While I do not like President Trump as a person, you have to come to the realization that he is not a racist, nor is he a white nationalist. He simply desires to uphold our immigration laws, that you despise due to your views. You simply think that all people can come and go freely to America. I am an American that accepts all immigrants regardless of their race to America if they are vetted properly. I love America, but to accept every asylum seeker based on many fabricated stories of harm and abuse in their native lands isn't the right way, especially when they claim they are only seeking employment. That in itself should make you think, why aren't these people building up their own countries that they are blatantly proud of. Evidently they have the hunger and desire to live a better life, yet they can't move away from their spouses that they say have abused them ? They tag along their children to flee from their homes, and subject them to cruel conditions in their travels, yet they can't move 100 miles or further away ? Think for a moment, what would you do ? Move to a foreign land that have immigration laws that have to be upheld, or would you start your life over again in a country that you loved so dearly that you would wave it's flag on a foreign countries soil. I assure you that if I ever decided to leave America, that I would embrace my new countries laws, and their way of life. Sure, I would have a fondness for America, but she would be like an ex-wife or girlfriend. I don't have that proclivitiy. I love America, and I love our country. I simply don't see how "open borders" makes America better as you do. You see it as white pride or patriotism, well I'm proud of my country. I love this land, and I know that it is inclusive to those that desire to be truly Americans regardless of color. As I've always said, become a part of the melting pot, and not a melding pot. If your ideas are simply to be destructive, and not conductive then they shouldn't be allowed to immigrate to the United States. Do you see the difference ? Or do you simply buy into the lines and thinking of those that say immigration laws are racists towards people of color.

  28. That coach at Mt. Vernon...…….forget his name...…….Came from nowhere, into a hostile environment, and lead his team to the playoffs.

  29. I would nominate Coach Finney from Winnsboro. Took a team that was not even close to the playoffs last year and made it in a tough district and then won a big playoff game last night!

  30. It’s the guy from Harleton. And it’s not a close race. They were 2-18 the last 2 years and won the district and a play offs game this year.

  31. I agree...Gilbert you are a person I would never want to meet or be acquainted with...You have taken this forum beyond "trash talk" to just mean and hateful rhetoric, and we are talking about kids for God sakes...You act as if you hate a whole town, but i'll let you in on a few things...Many times over the years Alto has come together as a FAMILY to overcome certain things I was just reminded as recently as this year how much the Alto family bond meant,, and as for the Alto yellowjackets our fans, including me, would still be there supporting the boys if they were 0-10, because that is the type of people we are...We support our boys in big numbers WIN or LOSE only a few schools of this size can say that....and we may have decisions made in regards to the program not everyone likes or appreciates at the time,, but it is always done for the sake of the kiddos that Alto is trying to mold into fine young men.....and if you knew anything you would see the great success of many of the students that walk out that door ....to the ones who go down the wrong path we grieve over, and pray they will get back on the right path, because that is what a FAMILY does.....There is so much more to Alto than you will EVER know, because you are nothing but an ignorant internet BULLY hiding behind a FAKE name!!!! You obviously have something very wrong with you Gilbert, and I would suggest you get it attended to, because it don't look good on you or anyone for that matter. And by the way GO JACKETS!!!! Win or lose I will always be a JACKET FAN!!!

  35. This has to be a record... the statewide Ford Built Ford Tough Player of the Week in 5A.... 4 of the 10 weeks, the player came from 9AAAAA, D2. Chris Carpenter—JAX DJ Freeman —PT QB Cade— WH QB Jordan Jenkins — Lindale RB Unfortunately. the district went 1-3 in first round. Regardless, that’s amazing to have 4 out of 10 from one district.

  37. I will say that I have been pulling for Alto all year, and will continue to do so if they beat my rams this week . I know you guys have had a tough year and it does the soul good to see kids have success in the odds of the events they were presented with this year . Joe had some pretty significant river flooding a few years ago and understand the strain it can put on a community.

  38. Newton is in such a weird place right now. They look really dominant when you watch them but then its like they lose enthusiasm once they get ahead. I know that Daingerfield fans are already thinking they can beat Newton, but I feel that its not gonna be up to anyone in 3aD2 to decide that, its all on whether or not Newton wants it.

  39. Newton has been showing lack of self-control lately.........they played like if they do not have a heart beat on the field. Anderson-Shiro and New Diana should not have been in the game at all. If Newton does not clean up the mistakes, penalties, and bad attitudes, they will be buying tickets to the State Title......I'm a Eagle supporter but I'm a realist too. Newton 42 Troup 28. I hope they turn it around and continue the tradition of Eagle Pride.
