  1. RGIII is cringe in the booth. Dude needs to take it down a notch.

  2. Surratt was highly disappointed in the postgame interview and took full responsibility for the poor performance on offense. SS called it a garbage game, but a victory we’ll always celebrate. For as inefficient as the offense was last night it still scored 35 points, and Hatten may be the best receiver in 4A. Other teams will find it very difficult to stop he and either QB combination. Then you run Paddie on go routes getting behind the defense. Not many teams have a pair of receivers like that. Then if Wade will start catching the ball with his hands those drops last night may turn into receptions. The Dawgs were lacking their best RB last night so his return will be a little boost. I am less concerned about the muffed punt and fumbles by Bell and Wade than I am the four interceptions thrown by Cuff. The throws were directly to the defenders and were baffling, quite honestly. Cuff has been pretty dang good this year overall, and last night was obviously his worst performance. Last night’s game does offer up more questions and dare we say more anxiousness we’ve had about our Bulldogs in a long time. I still go back to the defense being the cornerstone of this team and being able to carry it to victory even when the offense puts it in bad positions like it did last night. That goal line stand the Dawgs pulled off in the fourth quarter was a statement series. People referencing CS and glad we’re not in D1 kind of irritates me, because our defense negates those ideas in my opinion. We dang near shut out Gilmer who many folks believe may have the best offense in 4A-D2; we saw Carthage give a pretty solid Rusk team seven gift wrapped presents and still won 35-14. Why should Carthage be glad it’s not in D1 this year, we still have our defense and I think it’d stop any offense in all of 4A? I am definitely in agreement with BB12 in that we need to understand this year we do not have an offense like we’ve enjoyed the last two years led by Horton and Courtney. We are not remotely as efficient on offense as those teams yet and we may not get to that level this year, but we may not have to. Yet again, this offense has plenty of weapons that other teams do not and Cuff/Roq both can be very good. Somebody said Cuff was exposed last night… Cuff still made some great throws (two of them Wade dropped) and the interceptions were not forced by Rusk no matter how badly our Rusk poster wants to believe it. Those were mistakes solely on Cuff misfiring or not seeing the defender. That last interception in the third quarter Cuff had Paddie wide open behind the defense running parallel to the seam and he badly under threw the ball and directly to the defender. That should’ve been an easy TD, but was an interception the defense was gifted. That’s not being exposed it’s unforced errors. Summary, yes, there are tons of things to fix on offense, and we still have the best defense in 4A to lean on. Hopefully this was our worst offensive performance we’ll have this season and SS can get the mistakes completely eradicated. GO DAWGS!!!!!!!!!

  5. Carthage increases its win streak to 37 with this win against Rusk. The current 4a record is 40 held by Carthage and WO-S. Carthage should eclipse that this season. 40 games in a row is also tied for 9th all time any class. Looking ahead the 8th spot all time is 41 held by Hull-Daisetta and the 7th spot is held by Cuero at 44. The all time win streak is 68 held by Celina. Another cool stat is Carthage and SLC are the only 2 programs in the state with 3 x 30+ game win streaks. If Carthage’s current win streak gets to 40 again they will be the only program in the history to TXHSFB with 2 or more 40 game win streaks. Carthage is also on a 49 game regular season win streak. With Allen, Argyle and Denton Ryan all having a regular season loss this year Carthage currently has the longest active regular season win streak in the state. Looks like they will finish the regular season winning 51 in a row. That will be tied for 9th all time with SLC from 2002-07. The current 4a record is 71 held by SLC from 1986-93. Allen holds the all time record at 84 which ended this year. That steak started in 2012. Just a note because we all know where Carthage stands on championships. 8 is tied for 3rd place with SLC, Celina and Mart. Ahead of that it’s Katy with 9 and Aledo with 10. Will be a battle to pull ahead of Katy and Aledo. Like Carthage they keep winning. Scott Surratt is individually tied for 2nd place with G.A. Moore with 8 state titles. Ahead of them is Gordon Wood with 9. Fully expect SS to leave Carthage with that individual record. Pretty impressive stuff. Probably the most impressive part of all of this is that it’s all happened since 2008.

  6. Yeah, what are the odds of exact reversed scores? Those two teams were so evenly matched. Could've played 10 times and been 5-5.

  9. Gus is goofy, but he comes across as being overly-excited. RGIII is just... eesh. I like Mark Jones though, I like anyone who makes people go to the dictionary trying to figure out what he just said.

  10. Should we circle back and show all the mean, nasty things the Dems said about President Trump, his wife and son. Pedo Joe is a sorry POS. Every time he feels the heat he brings up his dead son or other family member trying to get people to feel sorry for him and not be mean. Now he uses a disabled person named Brandon to do the same. 11. Tatum lost a good one this morning. The true definition of a Tatum Eagle fan. A guy I’ve known for 35 years… one of the good ones. If praying is your thing please say one for the family. You will be missed, sir.

  12. Excellent post. And I agree with what you said about 4A Div 1. Another thing id like to point out is that in the playoffs in the event of close games against tough opponents when we get to 4th and long situations deep in our own territory , SS will be willing to punt sometimes and let our defense dominate. We all know by this point that everything before the playoffs is essentially practice for the real deal. He doesn’t mind putting the defense in a hole if it means possibly converting and having more opportunities to work on the things the offense needs. The play calling tends to operate the same way. As far as the INTs, these guys just got to get better. Plain and simple.

  13. That's a good post. I was hopeful Cuff would be a little more accurate by now but we have to remember he has some big shoes to fill and it may not happen this year. It was an aweful night and I'm sure it will worry SS but if anyone can get some kids on track it is him. The offense can't gift really good teams because we know that great defense will eventually tire out. This is also a time in the season when kids can lose focus which causes some upsets. Protecting the ball is priority one so maybe this game will be a beneficial wake up call. Rusk has made big improvements and looked really good at times. They just aren't up to Carthage caliber even on their worst day.

  14. Same thing was said last year the entire season up to the game. That’s why they play the game.

  17. Carthage defense against Gilmer was awesome…..seemed all 11 was into the game mentally…….since then, have been some lapses…….one defender seems to be looking for the impact play only…….get back to same mental intensity as the Gilmer game and cut the turnovers down to 1 or 2 a game and ring #9 comes to Carthage. I have watched some of China S, and they like to run more than pass, but QB is pretty good slinging it and they got 2 dudes who are good 4A receivers.

  18. Last post on this. Nobody is disputing that. Maybe the best I have seen in person. But this is a team sport last time I checked. Carthage is Carthage for sure. If I had to bet money I would say they go undefeated and win a title. I would just hope that Carthage fans would know what an elite TEAM looks like and how they perform. That’s all I am saying. Surratt and Co are allowed to have a retooling year on offense. This is still a 4a DII program. They are not going to have an offense that executes like a NFL team every year. That’s ok. I just think we can show some humility when talking about the team this year.

  19. We run the 3-4, a hybrid 3-4 to be exact where you can still see 4 down linemen. Just have to have a DC that knows what he is doing. Berry is a beast of a DC for us.

  21. What a headline!!!! This is actually getting funny...when even the liberal MSM outlets are telling the truth about Sleepy Joe you know he is in real trouble!!! Gotta love it!!! LOLOL!!! "With a hint of confusion in his eyes and a whiff of failure in the air around him, Joe Biden is watching his approval ratings continue to plummet to the point where just 42 percent of Americans approve of his job performance." 23. I’m just responding in kind. Wasn’t really talking trash. If you read the earlier post I said Hallsville is headed in the right direction. Not much trash talk from our end it was mostly Hallsville fans.

  24. He used to ask a question about upcoming opponent and a possible opponent down the line and you give him a big long answer and he would always respond with his classic … “alllright”. It bothered him that Lone Star football network has incomplete seasons for Tatum and about a month ago he asked me if I could look into it and see if they can get everything updated. That’s now my mission.

  29. Yes! Turn the ball over 3 or 4 times (or 6 or 7) against WOS, CS, and a couple other teams in Region 3 and you are probably beat. After 2015 and 2016, I won’t put anything past this coaching staff. And it’s cool to be 7-0. That should be celebrated. But every Carthage fan with half a brain knows what championship elite FB looks like. I’ll just say for the 1st time we should all be happy Carthage is in DII.

  31. been saying this for the longest. Its like they are going to play one way no matter what. On both offense and def. I have followed some good programs. in the past that can change it up every week. Some weeks they may be in a 3-4 def other weeks, 4-3. Some weeks spread offensive, some weeks veer.. Sometimes a gameplan requires you shorten the game and burn clock. They can't do it. Go watch Carthage, they can play anyway they need too. They run a million offensive plays from different sets. Tyler is going to play one way no matter what. This is why they struggled the past couple of yrs. Without a dynamic qb, they can't do nothing.

  32. Ol Trueblue’s thoughts: I was glad to see us finally abandon the onsides kick attempts. We’ve done pretty fair on kick coverage since the Beckville game. Three miscues by Shelbyville in the kicking game wound up being huge as well. Dragon offense is really good at stressing the defense by spreading you out. Lots to athletes on the field. I can’t believe no one is talking about freshman QB Justin Brown. I can’t remember the last time we had a QB throw two TD passes in the same game. That really loosened the Dragons up on defense. They were committed to stopping the run. At times they had all 11 in the box. Andre Brown’s injury was huge. He’s such a dependable hard runner. Dallon Jordan had a breakout game filling in for him, which allowed Andre to continue playing defense. All in all, everything you expect from a rivalry game. Good luck to the Dragons going forward.

  33. Now if Henderson lost on there backs I say they lost but at the end that was not cool at last play, going say the Henderson coach messed that game up, need another coach, hell a field goal could of won that game, Henderson should of saved most of there time outs lol what a move and what type of coaching, hell us the fans even knew the plays that Henderson needed to win, dnt have to be no rocket scientist to know, Kilgore was open to post passes all night and that last part Henderson coach messed that up I mean, three games the coaches messed up in the Lindale game and the Palestine game now this game, I should do what I thought about going to school and being a coach myself.

  34. 51-7 final. Gilmer kicked it into another gear and LE came unraveled. really impressed with Jackson tonight. Gilmer has 2 quality RBs. Tennison tweaked his ankle. Hope it’s not serious. I’m afraid they might have lost an offensive lineman for the season though. Hopefully not but on crutches after the game Gilmer took care of business tonight. Especially in the 2nd half. I do wish the refs would have done a better job. The game got really chippy in the 3rd quarter and the refs didn’t get on top of it soon enough.
