It’s their last game of the year because for some reason shepherd doesn’t have sub-varsity teams at the 4A level. Plus he’s B team so they didn’t get to play Jasper. Had 2 home games all season. So we’ll drive 2.5 hours to watch a 30 minute game and drive 2.5 hours back!!!

If you go there for vacation trips or something at the conference center, its the most wonderful thing in the world... until you walk a few blocks and realize that SA literally lets thousands of homeless people sleep right on the main commerce and tourist streets. Back in the late early 70’s, and the Wishbone & option football were king, Vidor was in a playoff game in the Dome against Aldine. They ran the option to their left. Vidor’s corner came up just as the QB pitched. He caught it in full stride and ran 89 yards for a TD. Unfortunately it was the Pirates only TD while Aldine scored buku TD’s. Still, quite a thrill for that young man. Aldine had the best LB I’ve ever seen in HS football, Larry Twardowski. No one could block him. I think he was 220, which back in those days was huge. Got a scholarship to Texas & knee tore up in practice. Never heard anymore about him. Typical old age memory. Remember something like that & have no idea what happened yesterday.

Just my opinion, so nobody get in their feels. The difference between last years Gunter, and what I have seen this year is attitude. Gunter has always been the toughest/scrappiest team we have played. Like Canadian, they aren’t ever the biggest, but they are always the “meanest”. Last years team did not seem to have the whole “TPW” mentality that they have had in the past. They had more speed and skill players, but it almost seemed like they bought into their own hype last year. Hell they were making TikTok videos in the locker room before our game. From what I have seen on film this year, that is not the case. They definitely seem to have their edge back. Will be fun to watch it unfold, and hopefully we can be there. If not, I’ll support GT the rest of the way!
