  1. If you have speed one of the best things you can do is create space. The spread offense creates space. Offenses like Vidor’s take a commitment. Rarely are you going to see a team run both a slot or wing T style offense and a spread offense. If I put 4 fast WR on the field, your replacing a LB with a secondary kid. Meaning instead of a front 7, you have a front 6 in most defenses, or you run both CB and Safeties in man coverage with no safety help over the top. You can zone it like cover two, but your even in the numbers, so your players have to be aware that if no one is in their zone that means another zone is overloaded. If you run man with no help (only 4 DBs), I can throw it more successfully. If you give safety help (5DBs), I can run against less of a front.

  2. Not everyone on Smoaky, but what will you say after Waskom loses? Will you say they beat because they had D1 players and secret weapons? Will you say they won because our coach doesn't focus on just football? Maybe having Shreveport kids wasn't enough or we never got over the Timpson beat down? Can/Will you say We Got Drove like those arrogant Dfield fans said .

  4. Tigervision was turned down. Sad, they would have had 3 or 4 cameras and replays. Last TexanLive game only had one camera. But it’s the kids that really lose. UIL needs to re-evaluate their mission statement in the era of live-streaming. If it’s about money, I am sure the school or its benefactors would have ponied it up. If Texas High advances, I hope TexanLive will consider “hiring” Tigervision to produce the semi-final game. It could be a win win.

  5. It's fun to look at stuff like that, but it gets twisted sometimes. Calpreps had CH smoking Henderson in the state championship in 2010, and the history books will tell you that didn't happen. Calpreps strictly uses data compilation, and doesn't have a way to take into account a bad night, players that were sidelined, quality of win, quality of loss, etc. I'm excited that tomorrow is Friday and we can finally see which of these underdogs is moving on to THE SEMIFINALS!

  8. He wasn't good at SMU either. Subpar completion percentage, 36 TDs / 21 INTs in 2 seasons. For a QB of his caliber when recruited, that's abysmal. Look at what Shane did at SMU in comparison. Shane threw 34 Tds in his JR year.

  9. Is what it is but once Goliath got knocked out, these other teams can see the light at the end of the tunnel finally..... still hard to believe surratt and squad are done in the 3rd rd... 2021 for ya

  10. I wouldn’t say our team got complacent, but I do think some of our fans had become complacent. SS would never allow his team to be complacent. Surratt has always said their favorite ring is always the next one, and we can’t be satisfied with successes from the past as they are the past. Surratt is too much of a competitor to allow his team to be complacent and not be hungry.

  12. Complacency allows others to just pass you by. However, the best cure for complacency is failure. These guys and these fans will bounce back next year.

  13. There offense was vanilla. They had huge oline men. They got in split back, I formation, shot gun and wishbone. They would just toss it left and right. We were beating them east and west so they had to run between the tackles and they wasn’t use to it. In the wishbone they ran 34 wham every time no option at all so the quarterback wasn’t a threat at all. so you knew the ball was going to #3 or #4. The slot T or any miss direction would have helped them. There Qb couldn’t throw. I see our district will beat them next year because it will be a one man show. I said this before if Vidor would work on throwing the ball 10 to 15 times a game they make a deep run. They can throw the ball out of that offense they just have to be comfortable doing it.

  16. Is this about the kids enjoying a life time experience or about whether a city is blue or red? Who gives a ratz ### how you vote none of these kids vote, damn I'm tired of politics playing a role in everything these days.... back on topic, I'd love it to be in different places... I'd also like it to be held over 2 weekends but that wouldnever work, or declare thurs-sat TX HS playoffs holiday LMAO so we fans can attend all games.... it's much easier to attend a game on Fridays and Saturdays rather than Thursdays.... but as long as it's in Dallas I'll keep attending and enjoying the experience... no complaints from me other than pricing on food as another member posted... Hard to believe the season ending is upon us.... going to be a long boring off-season

  17. The fans were NOT why Garrett Gilbert didn't pan out at Texas. From the moment he took over the starting job in 2010, he struggled. Which was very surprising to most, as he looked pretty good in the NC game. As that season (2010) progressed, he just got worse and worse. For every TD pass he'd throw (which was few anyway), he'd throw 2 Int's. I don't know why he turned out to be a bust at Texas. Maybe the stage was just too big for him. Maybe he couldn't handle the pressure. I don't know what it was, but I do not agree that it was the fans.

  21. The difficulty of that is that your college QBs aren't Jrs and Srs. They don't get 2-3 years to learn the system. They come in and start within 12 months or they transfer somewhere that will let them. Freshmen QB starters as little as 12 years ago was a miniscule percentage. Now I would say Freshmen and Sophomores are the majority of QB starters in CFB. The expectations of these players is to come right in and just get it. However, the best way to make that work is to dumb down your offense similar to what they ran in high school.

  22. Oklahoma is #1 for me. This was the year to make some noise. Alabama, Ohio State, and Clemson are all down. Georgia is good, but the best team they played in their own conference so far is four loss Arkansas. They avoided Ole Miss, Texas A&M, and LSU. The whole season makes sense now that Riley left. He had his foot out the door since September. No wonder the team showed no improvement all season and looked unorganized.

  24. CH is the same way. 4th and goal from 1” out and they will line up in shotgun. In those cases, I wish they would put a chunky fullback in, back the RB up 7-8 yards behind the ball, and go under center. Let the back take that ball with a full head of steam instead of on his second step.

  25. Everything will be out of the spread. I have not seen us go under center all year. when it’s 4th and inches I wish they would go under center for the sneak. They do move running backs in and wide outs around.

  26. Great question.....as the QB figures out the passing game the receivers will get more touches. Luckily all three of the starting WRs are back next year.

  27. Figured you were. I also wouldn’t put it past a team to implement a few new wrinkles at this point. Maybe not entire packages, but a new little play here or there that defenses haven’t seen on film before.

  28. I think it boils down to figuring out high completion percentage routes and throws to incorporate. I wish they would run some plays like the old whitehouse offense. Dink and dunk passes that get out of the QB’s hand quickly.

  34. To further elaborate on your point: Lincoln Riley's offense was in a three-year decline The final numbers are in on my weekly Big 12 efficiency ratings, and OU, like always, checks in with the Big 12’s best offense. But just barely. OU’s offensive efficiency of .453 beat out Iowa State’s .441. But that’s OU’s worst offensive efficiency of the seven-year Riley era. And the Riley offenses have been on a steady descent. . . . Riley arrived in 2015, Baker Mayfield became eligible and the Sooner offense found its gear: .496 (2015), .531 (2016), .542 (2017) and .624 (2018). That Kyler Murray season of 2018 is beyond description. Has to rank among the best offenses in college football history. But since then? There’s been a dropoff -- .536 (2019), .475 (2020) and .453 (2021). . . . The Sooners’ quest for a national championship had stagnated. It had stagnated offensively and it had stagnated defensively. That doesn’t mean OU is better off with a coaching change. It means the Sooners had plateaued, and Riley needed to change things. He changed things all right. It's my belief that the college game has caught up to Riley. That, plus the fact that he no longer had an NFL starter at QB. Mayfield, Murray, Hurts. You can debate whether he made them or they made him. Time will tell.

  35. To all Tiger fans and other doubters...Do not fret, all is not lost even if what has been alleged is true. Texas High is almost as healthy at this point in the season as they have been all year. The only injury concerns are the third and fourth string running backs that got hurt in mop up duty last Friday and they may be good to go. We have had starters out at various times during the season due to injury. The affect or effect of losing a player due to grades or injury is the same. No one is playing both ways so depth should not be a problem if what the allegations made on this thread are true. It is next man up and I believe that the Tigers will be just fine. This is the first time all season that this issue of grades has been voiced all year. Let us not pay too much attention to this issue and support this team and have confidence in them. Go Tigers!

  36. CRT, blames all white people for being oppressors' and so do a lot of people trying to keep us divided. I have not, nor will I ever oppress anybody. Teach History. Tell them about the Indians, about the Slaves, about the Asians and all the other bad things done in this country, it's in our past, but don't try to blame me for any of it, because I didn't do it.

  37. Slavery happened, never said it didn't, but me, myself and I had nothing to do with it and want nothing to do with it. I shall not/will not be a party to it. I have not, nor will I be a part of it. That's the part you are missing, don't blame me because I had nothing to do with it.
