  1. I'm not concerned with being #1 at the end of the day. As great as that would be, I just want Texas to recruit NEEDED positions, which they have done and done very well imo, especially on the offensive side. Like I said, #1 would be awesome, but focusing on getting the top talent at imperative positions where there are gaps is what stands out to me (ex. Oline)

  3. As I sit here 1,300 miles from Alto taking in what has been a difficult two week period to say the least, it dawned on me, as I'm sure it has to others, it is only going to get more difficult from here forward, more than likely for the entirety of the next two years. For the players who are already hurting, there will be many comments and under-the-breath trash talking that will test your will to resist the temptation to retaliate, or get into it, with the opposing teams. Be better than any who take that route and take that energy and use it on the field. To the adults who are also hurting and will meet with the same "talk" in the stands, you too must resist the challenge of a few (I believe most true fans of the game empathize with Alto) and focus on supporting the kids and the program and the town. While the two years will roll by slowly, eventually Alto will rise again. Be proud, stand tall Alto!!

  4. Best player: Dwight Smith. I still think the 2008 state championship game was one of the most dominant performances I’ve ever seen. Best team: 2014 Gilmer. Tons of talent (2 future NFL players). Team won the state track meet the same year. And they had a reason to play: Desmond Pollard. There was something special about that group. Best game: best game I saw was 2014 Gilmer Vs Gladewater. I’m sure there were other great ones, but that’s my favorite.

  5. Word is good out of camp. He’s physically bigger, his arm may be stronger, he’s got the system down. You’re hearing good things about these young WRs. I’m ready for the season to start.

  9. If only he realized that corporations don't really pay taxes. They do in a way, but in reality we pay their taxes. When WalMart taxes go up, they don't just say "ok we make less money this quarter". They raise the price of their products by the same percentage and we end up paying more for a gallon of milk.....and everything else. That is somewhat simplified but how it is in the real world. When Exxon gets taxed more, it gets added to the price of fuel. And so on and so on. How dimocraps (and others) are so ignorant to cheer higher corporate taxes is beyond me.

  10. The talent is there to play in December. What will ultimately determine whether we get ship #2 in 5 years is QB play. The good news is Jordan Allen (6'2 200) has been throwing varsity passes since his sophomore year, and he's had a good summer. So the fan base is really hoping that this is the year that he "pops". And he doesn't even have to be elite. Just manage the game enough not to hurt us. There's also a certain JR on the roster that I think several have sorta forgotten, but I'm very much still a believer if things don't work out with QB1.

  11. If someone is suspected of illegal activity and the IRS needs to execute a search warrant then they can ask the FBI to help or even better local law enforcement who probably know the people involved…IRS does not need to be armed

  12. Just making sure. Heard the same thing. Said that Tatum will be good once they get more comfortable with the new offense and The lineman are huge.

  13. Yea my buddy called me said tatum looked good the first drive but can tell they still learning. Besides that LE kinda had their way, the live portion was like 20-0 LE. He said tatum should be fine once they hit district that’s what counts.

  14. Absolutely agree. Although after the American FSB's... I mean, after the FBI's un-Constitutional raids on Project Veritas and President Trump, not too sure they need to be armed either.

  21. Same. I would've rather had 2. Transitioning from the Middle School to the High School game is a bit much. Two game-speed scrimmages would be better.

  23. https://www.msn.com/en-us/money/markets/biden-white-house-press-secretary-say-inflation-was-zero-in-july-heres-the-actual-number/ar-AA10wzfs?li=BBnb7Kz Before speaking about the bill, the president said “I want to say a word about news that came out relative to the economy, actually, I just want to say a number. Zero. Today, we received news that our economy has zero percent inflation in the month of July.” It must be said that liberals have a funny way of doing math--which seems to stem from all the idocracy in the schools that have to teach kids "funny" math, instead of simple, basic, get the correct answer math. I just can't figure out how 8.5% is Zero--but can a liberal please explain this for me. And yes, I know, it did not go up or down in July--so whoopie, inflation stayed at its current 40 year high. You liberals should be proud of that. I can't remember that last time I felt like this nation was headed by anti-americans--even during the obama years, I didn't feel they were anti-american, just wanting to change from capitalism to socialistic capitalism. But these people running the puppet strings are out of control and should be tried and convicted of treason--considering they are NOT following the Constitution or defending it.

  28. That’s always key. Landing kids high on your board regardless of their ranking. I’ve never been one to doubt a team taking a 3 star if they believe he’s talented enough and fits their need for him. I want it to go on record that I think Texas is recruiting a great class for themselves. I only am busting ANTI’s nads because he “guaranteed” the number 1 class and I just think thats foolish for any fan to do in July. I wasn’t even sold on A&M as the number 1 class of that year two weeks before signing day. Much less promising it 6 months before.

  29. Was just reading about Pine Tree. Ouch. Only 3 back on defense. That's tough. Granted.... their defense struggled at times last season...but it wasn't terrible. They lost 4 district games last year by 7 points or less. They easily could have been a playoff team with just a little luck. 7 back on offense.....but they lost Ethan Morgan...who was their stud RB last season. Averaged over 100 yards per game. Lost their #2 back too. That's a big hole to fill...and puts a lot of pressure on their passing game. Lost 2 of their top 4 WR's too....who could make some great catches. Very athletic. They will need some young guys to step up. PT rarely has trouble finding WR's it seems. Good news? They have a good QB coming back in Dakylan Johnson.... if they can get him some help...he's dangerous. Over 1400 yards passing last season. He was prone to toss INT's...but to be fair...he was a sophomore. Big order for such a young player. -------------- Interested to read more about Whitehouse, Hallsville, MP, and Nac. Strangely quiet over the offseason. Texas High gonna be Texas High...... question is.... do they come down to Earth a little this year? Or do they prove to be head and shoulders above everyone in the district again?

  30. According to the MNM.... the Tyler Legacy scrimmage will be in Marshall next Friday at 6PM They will have an intra-squad scrimmage this Saturday. Hate I'm going to miss the Legacy scrimmage. I'll be on vacation. ------------- Coach Alvarez seems to be really high on where things are right now. I'm cautiously optimistic. But I keep hearing how well practices are going. The kids worked their tails off this summer.... doing camps and their workouts. Sounds like they have definitely done their due diligence. It is a new staff.... and a new system... but this is a veteran squad we have this year. This was a team loaded with sophomores and juniors last year and they still managed to go 6-1 in district and advance to the 2nd round. Like I said.... cautiously optimistic. I've been down this road before and been let down. But...I've also been pleasantly surprised. Those are the best seasons. 8-5A is going to be very competitive this season I think. Should be a fun ride. Cannot wait. I'm excited about Alvarez..... this season.... but especially for the future.

  33. Okay... they unlawfully obtained a warrant... However, she was still housing a criminal, they still got shot at, and she was still in the line of fire. The funny part is that this was made to be a racist hate crimes from cops against the black community, when you know it wasn't. Prosecute the out of these 3, if these charges are true. Quit pretending it was racially motivated, when you know deep down that it was not.

  35. From today's Marshall News Messenger: https://www.marshallnewsmessenger.com/sports/mavericks-set-to-begin-football-practice-monday/article_e11458ba-14ee-11ed-b2a4-87c4e36dfbcf.html Marshall’s football team participated spring ball and as a result, had to wait a week to start fall practices but the Mavericks are set to hit the practice field Monday. They will go from 4 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. Monday and Tuesday and from 4 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday through Friday. Picture/Media Day will be held from Saturday at 7 a.m. until 8:30 a.m. That will be followed by a scrimmage from 9 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. Meet the Mavericks is slated for Thursday, Aug. 18 at 6 p.m. This season will be the first for the Mavericks under the direction of Jack Alvarez as athletic director and head football coach. Alvarez came to Marshall with an overall record of 193-93. He most recently coached at Cuero where he went 18-8 in two seasons and went to the playoffs both years. He has also made three state championship appearances, including in 2014 when he led Ennis to a state championship win. Alvarez will take over a Mavericks football team that went 8-4 a year ago and 6-1 against district opponents. He replaces Jake Griedl who spent three years with the Mavericks and went 20-13 overall as head coach. The Mavericks are slated to scrimmage against Tyler Legacy, Thursday, Aug. 18 at 7 p.m. and will kick off the season Friday, Aug. 26 at 7:30 p.m. Both the scrimmage and the season opener will be held at Mavericks Stadium in Marshall.
