  2. I think Max is what he is. He’s not going to light the world on fire with Jimbo but he will manage a game well. Between him and the defense they will be in most games, I just don’t think the offense will always be enough to win them. I do think that the two big play threats of Stewart and Marshall being out with suspension really impacted the passing game. The other guys just do not get separation.

  3. I didn’t know what to fully expect in the Lufkin game. While we dominated our first three opponents, the reality was, those teams simply aren’t very good. I’m not badmouthing those teams at all, simply stating that it was difficult to truly gauge where we were after those games. Playing Lufkin is different, however. They’d looked pretty good the first few games. And even if they didn’t, Longview-Lufkin is always a tough game, especially in Lufkin. Case and point, with the exception of last season, the 4 games prior to that were all 1 possession games. For Longview to dominate the way we did Friday night, IN Lufkin, was incredibly impressive. Lancaster may have a good team this year. We may not win by 50. However, I just think this Lobo team is ranked #1 for a reason. And especially with this game being IN Longview, I do believe we win big.

  4. Nope, Colmesneil is just to far a trip for me and I don't venture into the unknown unless I know what I'm getting into. But make no mistake, I'm sending in my top men to handle things Friday.

  5. More than likely, they don’t have enough to fire him and not have to pay the rest of his contract…….and they probably don’t want to pay him a huge amount and him also be able to find employment and be making more. I bet that as assistant AD, he will just be doing stuff like insurance for athletes, watching the lunchroom during lunch, driving to drop a package off at UPS, etc.

  6. I never really panicked. I knew Traylor would have UTSA ready to roll as soon as they hit the field. What, 9 plays without a huddle? Yeah they've had this game circled since last year. I called the onside kick as well. Signature Traylor move. I'm surprised they caught anyone off guard, but I guess they don't really study how he coached in high school. Overall, they got it done. You could feel it slipping before half, then it just felt almost entirely under control the 2nd half. The targeting call was nonsense. Card definitely struggles with the deep ball, and pressure. He's got to figure it out before next week, not that I think TTU is better than UTSA, but the environment will be very hostile.

  7. Lindale has a LOT to be proud of! There are also a lot of connections between the two coaching trees. The Eagles play in a TOUGH District, (District of Doom) and talking to some members of the coaching staff before the game, we all agreed that this would be the BEST and TOUGHEST “Team” Gilmer would face until December… and that this would be a great preparation games for both teams and their respective next opponents. We knew Coach Cochran was going to have the perfect game plan, and we knew that Lindale was a really bad “style matchup” for the Buckeyes! And boy were we right! I was talking to one of our kids today about how he was FEELING IT this morning, as that Lindale O-Line was huge and GOOD! But again… that is almost the perfect preparation for PG, Gilmer’s first and likely roughest District foe. No accident that Coach Metzel scheduled the 3 teams from that D1 District who I think will represent them in the playoffs in CH, Kilgore and Lindale. CH’s two sophomores are flat out scary athletes… and it was lucky we got them week 1! Kilgore is big and fast as physical as usual, and their DT is a MONSTER! They pushed our O-Line to get better! And Lindale is a GEEAT TEAM! Disciplined, clean, physical and play so well within their scheme. And it was a game that literally came down to the last play! Gilmer’s 4-0 record right now could very easily be different! But as Coach Metzel says, these games count for nothing and are scheduled to expose the things your team needs to GET FIXED before the games start counting! But as expected, Lindale played the absolute closest thing to a perfect game against the Buckeyes and had a chance at the end! And that was probably something Coach Cochran would have taken every day this summer preparing for his District! kudos to the town in Lindale and getting behind their kids (I was frankly embarrassed by Gilmer’s travel turnout to that game, and it didn’t help the Buckeyes!) kudos to the QB who IMO should not be so hard on himself and just enjoy this time and go play football! Cause he is a heck of a player, and from what I understand an even better kid. And having interacted with a lot of this current Lindale team over the past 3 years, there are a ton of great kids and the culture they have built will last a lot longer than they even know. Lindale is on the absolute RIGHT TRACK on all fronts (State Championship Band program too!) I love to see kids being successful! And Lindale got every bit of “Umpff” out of things they could Friday night! A LOT to be proud of and look forward to for the Eagles!

  10. Boyz got the W'. Just like I said, just needed to shake off the rust from week 1. If Boyz can beat defending AFC Champs without Dak, no reason can't run the table rest the way. Supposedly kirtfalcon gave them Boyz a pregame speech that fired em up. Told them go out and hit someone in the mouth and make them like. Looks like it worked to. We dem' Boyz.

  12. ABILENE, Texas – Jumping out to a 14-0 lead at halftime, East Texas Baptist University finished off McMurry University, 28-7, moving to 1-0 in the American Southwest Conference. ETBU is now 1-1 on the year. "This was a great team effort. We talked about focusing on ourselves and we control the game. The defense came up and made some big plays as we had several interceptions with one to the house. The offense then came in and scored and we had a great team effort. I am proud of our guys," says head coach Brian Mayper. The offense had a balanced attack with 156 yards rushing and 90 yards passing scoring 21 points. Cornelius Banks received his first start at quarterback going 13-of-24 with one passing touchdown and a rushing touchdown. Melek Hamilton was the leading rusher with just under 100 yards as Kaleb O'Bryant had 57 yards receiving. Cade Fant recorded two receiving touchdowns, too. Joey Johnson led the defense with eight tackles and a sack as the team produced five sacks and three interceptions. Trint Scott, Joey Verret and K.J. Kelley all had the interceptions as Verret went 30-plus yards for a touchdown. After a scoreless first quarter, McMurry was driving into ETBU territory to start the second. They were at the ETBU 23-yard line when Scott grabbed ETBU's first interception of the day to end the threat. Nine plays later, Banks led ETBU 62-yards for their first score pushing his way in from three-yards out. Three possessions later, Banks once again guided ETBU down the field for a score. This time ETBU went 80-yards taking almost five minutes off the clock as Fant was on the receiving end of his first touchdown of the day for a 14-0 lead at the half. ETBU's defense ended the first half with a sack by Cameron Kaufert as McMurry was trying hurry down the field. Stopping McMurry on their first drive of the second half with a three-and-out, ETBU took over at their own 43-yard line. Three plays later ETBU was at the one-yard line after a McMurry penalty. Banks lofted a pass out to Fant on the McMurry sideline to put the Tigers up, 21-0. Neither team scored the rest of the third quarter. McMurry broke the shutout on their first possession of the fourth quarter on an 18-yard run cutting the Tiger lead to 14 points, 21-7. ETBU went three-and-out on their next possession giving McMurry back the momentum. The Warhawks took over at their own 22-yard line and were driving when Verret stopped a screen with the third interception of the day going 34-yards for a pick-6 touchdown to finish off the scoring. ETBU will travel to Brownwood, Texas, next Saturday to face Howard Payne University in ASC play at 1:00 p.m.

  13. you know he don’t see it that way. Can you imagine how dumb we would look if we was bragging and chest thumping about beating Tenaha ?

  14. That's not exactly the point. Would you say if you had a group of 9 boys to pick from and I had a group of 3......what are the chances you find an exceptional athletes and what are my chances of finding one? Center has roughly 235 more boys to hand pick from than DF. Would that not give them a clear advantage to find more and better athletes? A pool of say 370 boys to pick from and a pool of 135 boys to pick from? Which one do you think would have the clear advantage to field the better team?

  15. I think Longview wins this game along the lines of 35-14. Wouldn’t be shocked at 42-14. I just think they are that good. Freight train headed full steam downhill. Good luck to anybody that has to play them lol

  17. The rule itself is pretty stupid. The suspensions make it absolutely ludicrous. You’re asking human beings moving at 15-20 mph to be able to not only control their own bodies, but also anticipate the offensive players body movements in fractions of a second.

Overshown didn't lower his head or launch in any fashion, he simply ran over him and knocked him down .... what he did in no way reflects the definition of targeting ... surely this will be overturned .... the targeting stuff has gotten totally out of hand to the point defenders can't even make clean hard tackles ...

  25. The last time Carthage played football against a for sure Olympics level speedster the Bulldogs put up 64 points and had 530+ yards of offense against his team…….in the FIRST HALF. One player with world class speed does not equal victory against Carthage or any other football team - team sport not individual track competition.

Serious question, if he is that toxic, why has he perpetually been hired over and over for last 20 years maybe,I've never met him and absolutely have no basis too form an option whatsoever,so I'm blank on him. Surly he must have some redeeming qualities that go unspoken? Maybe,. Just wondering...

  33. Television really wants/needs the U or FSU to be back. Clemson being the only legitimate threat in the ACC has watered down the ACC product and honestly college football is just better when either of those two are good. They will sunshine pump them every time they show even a glimmer of positive momentum. USC is in the same boat. I think in general the college football world is ready to move on from the same 5. Bama, Georgia, Clemson, Ohio st and OU have been the consistent teams for most of the playoff era. Having Michigan, Miami/FSU, USC, or Texas make their way back into consistent contention would do wonders for the parity of the sport. That’s not even counting teams that are close to being good but having historically been in that national title talk like A&M, Oregon, Michigan st etc. the sport doesn’t want deeper playoffs, it wants parity. The unfortunate thing is people do not understand that a expanded playoff doesn’t give you parity it just gives those top 5 more room for error.

  34. For one, I am glad Gilmer is NOT D1 and in that District! But having watched all the teams in this district play from last year (The Buckeyes pre-district schedule was basically like Gilmer was in the district!)… I can say this district is the bEastTexas version of the SEC West! Wow…. But as our friends on the Lindale staff talked about before our game Friday night, it is more about “Matchups” than it is about anything else. I think Lindale will have an advantage in the trenches with just about every game they play. That O-Line is dominating. And Thurman and the RBs run hard and tough. So as long as they stay ahead of the chains, I think they are 10 points better than Henderson (who is nobody’s “weak sister” btw!) Henderson is going to need Lindale to help them by beating themselves, I.e turning the ball over and making mistakes. And neither of those things are something I think Lindale will do too much. Lindale 31-15 over Henderson. I think there is a real chance some craziness ensues over there, like CH beating Lindale, Lindale beating Kilgore and Kilgore beating CH for a 3 way tie! But I also think no matter how the order goes, all three teams will wind up facing each other again later in the playoffs. They all have the ability to survive and advance all the way to pretty near Turkey time!

  38. Shhhhh, since you scheduled them you should win. That's it......thats the law. You scheduled them so if you lose, you're lesser than them. And you better not say anything good about your team prior either....cuz if you do, and you lose.....even if it's by 2.....you are extremely inferior. Even if you have the chance to and will likely go further in the playoffs.....INFERIOR. Case Closed.

  42. Bearkats have to play consistently to keep improving. Our schedule is not aiding that improvement because the speed and physicality of Carlisle, Alto and Tenaha and their schedules they play are 200% better that what Cushing is playing. It will not show 4 weeks down the road. Offensive crispness and tempo will have to be much better by then or there will be a 3 week stretch with Carlisle, Tenaha and Alto. I applaud how hard the Alto players are playing despite the circumstances. They are playing for their town, school and their fellow teammates.

  43. Hopefully one day O-town will find a way to keep their best players from going down the road when they get to high school. I remember the early 80’s and the Kennedy family gene line… Overton had some good teams back then… 1983…the only year Cushing was rank in the top 10 innClass A… the only problem was there were 3 other teams ranked ahead of them in the district with Tenaha, Union Hill and Overton. Leverett’s Chapel and Carlisle were tough outs then as well. 1st District game for Cushing ended up 14-12 over ME with Cushing’s star QB, punter and field goal kicker going down with a season ending knee injury which weakened the Bearkats considerably for the rest of the season. Im not sure about how many Overton players have gone elsewhere… just citing other conversations about the situation there in Overton and figure this to be one of the issues.

  45. Texas got hosed in that game. Two obvious PI's that didn't get called early in the game. The "targeting" call on the safety/intentional grounding. And the obvious holding on the scramble. Oghoufo would have caught Young rounding the corner.
