  1. Lufkin. I can count maybe 5 move-ins the last 10 years. During the John outlaw days, all home grown. I know because I was in the Lufkin football program from 2002-2005. We all started playing together age 5 and that is almost exactly how it goes around here still. We get what we get and that’s all there is to it. Either way, Carthage is a beast for many reasons and it starts with SS. Kids grow up wanting to play football there and that keeps the fire burning. He has built a wonderful program and personally, I admire it. I have full respect for Carthage and their fan base. I’d rather those trophies stay in East Texas. Go Dawgs!

  2. Carthage fan here… unnecessary thread because all it does is upset people and because Carthage is heavily favored wire to wire so it’s not really saying anything anyone else has not already said. The move in stuff is dumb and we covered that earlier in the year on a different thread. Not even gonna go into that because everyone knows it’s dumb.

  3. @TCU44 is feeling great after his Frogs were fortunate UT decided to lose its offense last night.

  4. Mineola was fortunate the field was dry when they had the ball.

  5. Same here. I thought Carthage's defense was stifling. Gilmer's D is good, but not stifling. Carthage has a more polished passer and more weapons at receiver than Gilmer. Carthage also had an explosive RB... Gilmer's was super fast but I only remember him busting one long one against us. Gilmer's Fluellen is probably the best player I've seen this year.. #13 for Carthage is right there with him along with Stewart from Chapel Hill.

  8. So let’s look at this topic from a “could potentially” stand-point. Here’s who could potentially give Carthage a game: - Gilmer - needs a perfect game and to be aggressive offensively the whole game and keep trying to score the entire 48. Defense will need to force at least 3 TO’s and hold Carthage under 21 points. This will be a tall task. %20 chance to pull the upset. - PG - see above ^^^ just don’t see that they realistically can, but in a 1 game scenario, anything can happen. Carthage would have to do some imploding for them to beat them. 10% chance to pull the upset. - Silsbee - I think this is the team that can do it, if anyone can. Again, 1 game scenario, have to play perfect and have to win the trenches. They are probably more athletic than Carthage but not as savvy at passing the ball. They will need to play a perfect game and get at least 1 TO a half and turn it into a TD for a +14 margin. %35 chance to pull the upset. Belleville - See Gilmer or PG. I give them a 15-20% chance to pull the upset. Can score with a solid defense. Cuero- this team has a chance but has to get some things figured out. They seemed hot at the early season but seem to maybe be struggling. With their defense anything can happen but they have to get right. In a 1 game scenario where anything can happen, I say they’re a 20% to win team. Wimbo - 10% chance, just don’t think so. Hamshire F & Waco Con - maybe 5% chance, they may not even make regional final. I’m a big believer that this Carthage team is just on a mission and everything has come together. Defense is GOOD. Cuff is spinning a deadly ball this year. Receivers are deep and good, RB’s are quick but do lack size. Defense is stupid good and SO young, it’s insane. I just don’t see anyone who is evenly matched and has a 50% chance. To me, Silsbee comes the closest. I think this year is #9.

  10. VA isn't beating Carthage and GVIlle isn't beating Gilmer. It's Carthage vs. Gilmer in Rd 3 and hopefully at Tyler Rose, but prolly at Longview is my guess. This is the game that's happening. I appreciate all the "take it 1 game at a time" stuff, but let's just get it rolling. Carthage is playing Gilmer in Rd. 3........ discuss.

  11. What I wish Carthage would do is schedule at least one upper tier team a division or two above them (4AD1-5AD1) during pre-district each year. I understand they don't need to do this because they're already top dog in their division and winning titles, plus it is hard to get those teams to play because there's very little benefit to the higher division team, but it would be awesome for the fans. Perhaps Carthage has done this some and I've missed it? It's always fun to watch top tier teams from different classifications go after each other.

  12. Well...since about August when we got ready for the season...knew we'd probably be visiting down the line..and the slot I was laughingly referring to in wortham film was when they went into a somewhat slot /jumbo package at end of Clarksville game...lol

  14. I think Mr. King is a little smarter than to shoot all his bullets in the first duel. Obviously he felt confident with the run scheme to wear then down over four quarters but I’d be surprised if there weren’t a few aggressive wrinkles if they were to meet Lancaster again.

  16. Every fan base has their fair share of over the top fans. Ours are just a little bit louder than most. The only real years Longview has underperformed would be 2005 and 2013 imo. 2005 continues to get brought up to this day, heck King talked about it indepth on the pre game show this past Friday. 2006, no one thought we were doing anything. Same in 2007 then we went to the Semis. Went to state in 2008 and 2009. Semis in 2010 with a 6-4 regular season team. 2011, we all knew DeKaney would be our big test. They won by 10 in a crazy wind game and end up winning state. 2012, down to our sophomore QB and sophomore back. Happy just to get to Regional Semis. 2013, that year I'll give you. I fully expected us to go further than the Regional Semis before A&M beat us. I still can't figure that loss out. 2014, lol no. We were lucky Lufkin couldn't stop us in the 2nd half to even get out of the first round. If we were 6A, we wouldn't of even made the post season. 2015, went to the Quarterfinals with a team that lost to Marshall. The world was ending in October and we went out there and could've easily been in the Finals had we not blown our shot against Lake Ridge. I can't think of anyone who thought we were doing anything in 2016. That season coupled with '14 were just awful to follow, seeing our boys basically just going through the motion. Not many people though we'd do much in 2017 either, especially after losing to Horn in district. Went to the Semis. 2018, did exactly what we felt we could at the start of the year and won State. 2019 no doubt we felt we'd go further than we did but we all knew something was off with the team. All year long. Really not that big of a difference between losing to that Jesuit squad or waiting two weeks later for Westfield to beat us, especially after Kaden got injured against the Ranges. 2020 and 2021, we were hopeful but come on. Denton Ryan was clearly better than us both years. It's really not as often as people try and make it out to be about us. Have we had games we could've and should've won? Of course. We've also had games we should've lost. I do think this is one of the weakest regions we have been since King came on board, excluding Lancaster. I have an idea of where Timberview is, but they're still TBD. Not saying it'll be a complete cake walk or anything of course, but this is one we should be winning. And like I said, I just don't know who's line is going to match up with either of ours.

  18. Context. How many teams have Longview had of THIS caliber the past 15+ years? I'll go ahead and tell you...only the 1997, 2004 and 2018 teams have the peak of this years' team....probably this side of desegregation. You act like Lobo fans were booking their tickets to AT&T in years like 2016. Stop it. One game at a time. Goal is to go 1-0 every week...Coach King preaches it harder than anyone. We know what it takes to win it all. It's just confidence with the team we have this year.

  19. Yeah, I get where you’re coming from. Honestly man, I really just don’t see anybody in 5A that can beat Longview. I mean obviously if y’all have one of those lackluster performances with 3-4 turnovers it can happen. I think the only team with a shot is Aledo. I guess Lancaster maybe, but I think Longview wins that next meeting handily. I ain’t overly impressed with Lancaster anyways. As long as y’all just continue to be Longview, it’s nails.

  20. lol I hope so. I completely understand people's fears about the passing game. Some of the play calling with the downfield shots, I just didn't understand. There was no way those things were being completed, especially as the game went on. But yea, our rushing attack is just so unreal this year. My big question is who's line will we come up against, offensively or defensively, that will be able to match ours. Our D line would be in for a big match up against Aledo's O line, no doubt. Especially if their QB comes back completely healthy. Lancaster again, worries me a little even though I think we're the better team. I've watched Frisco Lone Star multiple times this season. I haven't watched the full Richland game yet but the Royals just looked slow as can be. Lone Star has some players but I just can't see them slowing down Tatum anywhere near enough. Turnovers and penalties are the only down fall I see in this team outside of the lack of passing game. But we just need Jordan to be a little above average, and I think we'll be more than fine.

  21. Let’s not do that, still have to win five more games. So far, I still think 2017 and 2020 are better than this team, but like @mikehoncho said, we need to watch what happens between now and Christmas. Go Dawgs!!!!!!!!!

  22. We love your support, @LufkinPack!!! Thank you! Hopefully our Bulldogs stay focused and healthy throughout. Last season the OL and QB weren’t quite ready nor was the rushing attack. This season, all three of those areas are vastly improved.

  24. I understand why everyone is frustrated but some perspective is needed with this offense. Seniors: Roschon Johnson, Christian Jones Juniors: Bijan, Whittington Sophmores: Worthy, Connor, Majors, Sanders, Helm, Karic Freshmen: Ewers, Cain, Banks, Hutson This is a very young offense. It is brutal wasting the last year to have Roschon and Bijan in the backfield but it’s very similar to Ricky’s senior year. Texas has to figure some things out and win the next 2. 8-4 is a very good improvement over last year and exactly what most expected of this team. Missing 3 and 3/4 games really hurt Quinn’s growth in this offense and it has shown against the drop 8 defenses of OkSt and TCU. It should be know surprise that the defense, which has much more veterans, is playing better as the season goes on. I think this is a good coaching staff and I think they have built a solid culture and are developing the players. It’s taking longer than us fans would like but I think it’s moving in the right direction.

  26. Longview will eventually play a team with a solid run defense. That’s why it’s important for them to throw the ball in these early rounds, even if they don’t have to.

  29. 6 weeks ago he was one of the greatest arms talents in college football. Let it play out. He’s pressed the last 2-3 weeks for sure but he’s still young. He’s likely not as good as that 1st quarter vs Bama made everyone believe but he’s not as bad as he looked tonight either. It’s an in between.

  34. Let’s apply some science and mathematics to this matchup: week 1, Timpson blows out Beckville something like 55-24. That would be Beckville’s only loss of the season. Fast forward to week 9, and Beckville donkey stomps Frankston 55-0. So, allowing for the idea that Beckville improved greatly over 8 weeks and that, maybe, somehow Frankston might match up better with Timpson than they do with Beckville, adjust the score to allow for the Doomer factor, carry the one and deduct the 3 by a factor of 16, (now I’m just making stuff up) my model shows: Timpson 67 Frankston 6

  40. You don't seem to understand. Everyone knows that your Bulldogs are the top "dawgs" in the state, but you shouldn't come on here thinking that Carthage can't be beat. Like @Hawkeye55 said that anything can happen. That's why they play the game, otherwise, what's the point.

  41. Again never said they could cause a problem. Just stated that I think they will be the best upfront that we have seen. but you know I’m from Carthage been a Carthage fan my whole life. But some of you Carthage folks really get on my nerves. You cannot simply put an opinion out there with y’all not getting butt hurt. And obviously you can tell y’all do bc y’all don’t read post all the way through.

  43. Just getting back to my daughter’s after the game. Found my alumni brick. it was also my granddaughter’s first home UT game. She is just over 3 years old. She was in awe of the entire experience. She has been to a couple of away games against WVU. Some quick observations. Ewers is not seeing the whole field. Missed two easy scores with guys open in the EZ. Making his mind up way too quick and is forcing the ball. Receivers dropped a few. Took too long to get Whit involved in the game. Bijan did not get enough carries on outside plays. Ewers not doing the short game. Sark still trying with too many home run balls. Should dink and dunk more.

  44. They were 5-7 last year because they lost every one of these types of games last year. This year they are pretty much splitting them 50/50. Likely next year they are winning 75% or more of them. This is progress.

  45. Don’t underestimate Minny, they can pull off the upset. Pendergrass is a grown man playing against 14-18 year olds. If Minny can get a stop or two this will be an interesting game.
