Given the dynamics in Texarkana, I would assume the last thing Texas High would want is to play PG. As long as PG is still a 4A D2 school it’s a lose/lose for the Tigers. If they win everyone will point to enrollment numbers and say you’re supposed to win this one. But if they lose, it’s definitely a bad look for the program and given how things tend to go down there. I would assume you run the risk of losing younger lower grade kids to PG.

Yeah, I'm on the other end of the spectrum: I actually get annoyed with Carthage fans who try to poor-mouth the team. Y'all should be talking State every year! No question. Carthage has earned their arrogance. The fans should revel in it while they can. These kinds of eras are rare. Enjoy it!

I agree. You can out athlete sub par teams all day long, but when you meet someone who can at least hang with and compete with said athletes, that's where mentality,discipline,toughness,aggresiveness, etc. comes in. Tradition and history also have a huge play in things, if you've been there and done that and have proven yourself as a program, it almost can give you an edge on a team with better size and athletes as long as you play tough, disciplined, mistake free football. Mart and Cushing are just two very different worlds, but I hope Cushing can build off of what they have accomplished this season and turn it into long term success. The better the teams are, the better the football is, simple as that!

I really wish Longview and Carthage would schedule a game so people would shut up. It'll make a good sale and also every week I see someone arguing about it on Fbook.

Everybody keeps using center as a handicap. What they d9nt know is center put up more points on Carthage than anyone else in district combined. They don't want to talk about that tho. Center RB has more total yards than Dekalb ENTIRE team. Put that in ya pipe and smoke on it. Dfield is just better at football than yall moonshine sippers think. Lay off that white lightning and itll make you see a lil more clearly whats really going to happen Friday night.

I didnt write a preview on that game (only ten games get highlighted in 4A-2A)....but I predict every game in the state

After watching a few of their games... I don't think that's who they really are. That guy is normally playing fullback in their wishbone formation. That's them 1) putting stuff on film for DC's to waste practice reps on and 2) work on their passing game by letting their only real receiving threat (Owens) get used to running routes... because they will inevitably have to complete some passes to beat any good playoff team. They have about 400 passing yards on the season. They really have two plays that are their bread-and-butter on offense. #1 is a tunnel sweep out of the wishbone and #2 is a single back zone-read.... the QB (Oscar Miles) is a very good runner. If Kilgore can have success stopping those two plays we will be fine. El Campo's defense is not great. If Kilgore is sharp on offense, EC will have to get out of their comfort zone to try to keep up. If Kilgore gets behind early, we still have a lot better shot at coming back than EC does.

Listen, I get nervous before every game and I don't have a kid on the team. I expect every team to give Carthage their best shot. And I know that these are high school kids that can be off on any given day. That being said, I also know what we have here. I have seen a lot of football in my life, and what Carthage does here is very awesome. The work that Scott and his coaches do every week is outstanding. They put in long hours. They start with these kids in 7th grade teaching them the system. Carthage has talented kids who put in hard work also. 8 state championships in 15 years speaks for itself. I am sorry that we aren't going to sit here and expect to lose to every team we play. False humility is not a good trait. Part of what's going on in Carthage is the expectation to win. These kids think they can beat anyone they play. That is not to be underestimated. I think some of our crew is more likely to overestimate our talent than to be arrogant. But yes, we think our kids are good and our coaches are good. The goal is to play into December every season. Just the way it is.

That happened 20 years ago in my household. At first I thought that the king of the house would have veto power but the Supreme Court (wife) invoked judicial review and sided with herself on all matters. The King is now just a figure head like King Charles III.

I watched The Rings of Power last week and started The Hobbit Sunday. I'm on The Desolation of Smaug now.

I don’t remember if some said that last year or not, but I know myself, for one, was sounding the alarm on the offense from Week 1 and onward. It just wasn’t looking like usual Carthage offenses. Thankfully this year the offense is incredible and consistent while the defense is somehow more dominant than before while losing so many starters. Hopefully that all equals out to number 9!

Everyone on Smoaky has talked about at one time or another. I personally don’t want to see it. It is a loose loose situation for Longbiew if Carthage was to win. I like it just like it is. We have two giants in East Texas football, one in 5A and one in 4A. I would add Gilmer and Daingerfield and Newton in the class because of their history. Just my two cents worth.

Only thing stopping Longview is Longview. Don't turn the ball over + Don't make boneheaded penalties + Don't force passes = Longview wins by 30+

DK doesn’t have a RB the caliber of the Center back that happen to rush for over 400 yards last week.

When did Mart begin this mentality? Five years ago? Ten? Fifty? You can have all the mentality in the world, but your line average 150 pounds you ain't mentality-ing the ball down the field. A great mentality doesn't mean squat when the opposing star player is a D-1 prospect with a sub-4.5 forty time. Now, yes, if you have two somewhat evenly-matched teams facing off, I'll always pick the team who plays more disciplined. focused, and aggressive football. Yes. The right mentality wins out 10 out of 10 times, all things being equal. But the machine in Mart has been a long time going. It's a mentality that has been built over years and years of development from within and without. It's not the sorta thing that you can just conjure up in 5-10 years by getting smoked in non-district play. Just my opinion.

We were talking about the Carthage uniform combinations on the other thread. I have also always really liked the China Spring colors and uniforms, always thought they are pretty cool.

Well, I haven't really spoken about this matchup. That's because I don't really have much to say. Longview has no business losing this game. LS is on QB3, there's a lot more power running since this happened. Longview secondary cant be gullible though, they'll pop it over the top and catch a defense sleeping. I'm not seeing a ton of team speed, ALTHOUGH they are not short of talent at the skill positions. Penalties have been an issue, it'll be interesting to see if they remain in the odd man front against us. If so, running game will no doubt feast. Play our game, take care of the ball and we win it big. One thing that I will say is Blake Fann (#13) may be the best LB Longview has seen this year. Something we'll have to watch out for.

I don’t even think 2018 or Friday was the worst of the King era. That game against McKinney Boyd in 2013 at Wildcat-Ram. My god. Definitely wasn’t above freezing. Thankfully didn’t have any rain or snow but that wind. Nope. By far the coldest game I’ve ever sat through. That one was absolutely miserable.

That 17 team dominated on the line of scrimmage. That is what PG is missing. That is what separates teams like Carthage in 4A. They have big physical guys on the line of scrimmage.

And this is also why the BcS was so stupid. For two teams to have the same record, played each other, and have the loser ranked above the winner (Alabama & LSU), that's just dumb.

PG will win, Gibson will cry with cameras in his face for his post game speech, it will get 5k views on Facebook, a couple 8th grade kids will see it and move to PG, they will be freak freshmen next year, get 12 offers, and all will be right in Texas!

Looking at the playoff bracket... Kilgore and Lindale are in the bottom half of the bracket. Kilgore will plow through LCM and get El Campo in the 2nd round. I'd put our odds at about 80% to win that one and move on to round 3. Lindale will beat Vidor and get Houston-Washington in round 2. Washington is 9-0 and blowing people out. But, they are a Houston ISD team and we know what kind of schedule they play. Every opponent they've had has a losing record and most all of them are just flat out terrible. Lindale has a good chance of taking that one. That would set up a Kilgore/Lindale rematch in round 3. Winner of that one inevitably gets Chapel Hill in the Regional Championship. Lumberton is the only team in the top half of the bracket that has a snowball's chance against CH and that would be in round 3. Lumberton is pretty good, really good QB and they brag about their speed guys... but they will find out what speed really looks like when they play Chapel Hill.
