  1. As a Coach, have you ever taken a kid out of English class to lift weights? Why should athletics be any different? If we believe Athletics is important enough to be a class period (duh...it is what makes our state the best HS football in America) then we should treat the athletic period no differently than any other class. That is why teachers have scheduled tutorial times.

  2. My experience is the opposite of that. Kids try to find way to miss because they are lazy.

  4. I personally don’t want the Dawgs to play the Lobos. They would have to play early in the season and the game would be so dang physical. There would be a lot of walking wounded. Longview would overwhelm the Dawgs with depth. It dang sure wouldn’t be no blowout. But both sides would be beat up. It would not be worth it before district games. Again my opinion.

  5. Padilla Poll is a joke. They only include schools that "subscribe" to them. Many kids left off of that list because they don't pay Carl Padilla. Any "All-State" team that doesn't make EVERY TEAM in the state eligible to make the team is a joke.

  6. I had this problem with one teacher really bad years ago. One day I just went to her class and pull some kids out to do push ups in the hall. She got my point after that lol.

  7. Only had one district that allowed kids to be pulled out of athletics and not surprisingly it was a huge dumpster fire... and still is!! The kids caught on pretty quickly that all they had to do was get a note from their favorite teacher to allow them to come to their classroom during athletics and they didn't have to run or lift that day. We weren't allowed to make them do make up work for the workouts they missed. Several of the teachers hated athletics and loved getting the kids out of working out and admin backed the teachers!! Like I said...dumpster fire and very few wins for most of the sports!!

  9. I've experienced the same thing. kids go looking for a note from a teacher so they can skip athletic period. Makes it tough when you only have 50 or so kids.

  12. My goal was to get the kids to do what they are supposed to do when they are supposed to do it. When it's time for class, it's time to be a student. When it's time for athletics, be an athlete. Take care of your business. I'm not saying there aren't special circumstances because I think there are, but this has been my approach. I think if you leave this situation fluid and sometimes the kid goes to athletics and sometimes he goes to the classroom, I don't think you're teaching that kid responsibility. Getting out of one thing to do another doesn't make you a student athlete. It you makes you a student.

  14. Yea I'm not disagreeing with the ranking. One more appearance in title games and the losses coming to champs and finalists. Can't really argue with that. I'm just happy to have had the success to be #2.

  18. Exactly! We even had some teachers that gave the kids notes to get out of athletics to "study" but actually sent them to go get them something to eat from the local cafe so they wouldn't have to go during their lunch period!!! Brought this to the admins attention and nothing was done...and people wonder why some programs struggle year after year!!!

  21. My Daddy never locked his guns up, and I knew exactly where they were all of them. However, he and my 4 brothers taught me gun safety. Even in my teenage years I respected the rule to Never touch his guns without permission. I would say that was the case for most kids in the 70's and 80's. The only guns that were loaded was his pistol and his 12 gauge in case of a break in. What's different today ? Parents don't teach their children gun safety or to respect their house rules.

  22. 1. Aledo 2. Carthage End of story. Dawgs still have a target no matter how many titles they’ve won to this point, and Aledo has been a moving target. Though we don’t get to play each other we get to compete from a distance within the confines of our own classifications. Aledo deserves all the admiration any program in the entire nation does. I know I admire their prowess. Those Bulldogs are working hard and we love them. Go Dawgs!

  25. But thats not correct. Crosby was not state championship caliber when yall played them. You cant count the year before. That was a different team! Thats like Gladewater, Gilmer, Henderson, Kilgore, or El Campo bragging about beating 2013 Carthage lmao. Different team than the one all those teams beat.

  26. If that is your mindset you need to change occupations. Jeez what a terrible generalization. For that low % of kids that are lazy its pretty simple. No practice, no play. If you have to beg them to practice you are gonna have to beg them to play hard.

  27. When our girls were young I always kept my guns locked up and even kept the ammo separate. I feared a tragedy involving our kids or their friends more than I feared some dirt bag breaking in on us. Now that we have grand kids I intend to do the same thing again. With rights come responsibilities...so I would not have a problem with this law.

  30. Still beating that dead horse, with the thread that I started, which showed that 'conservatives' were all about culture wars and nothing else of substance, while covering for the most corrupt administration and person in our history in Trump. Of course you changed the thread title. When's that plan for combating inflation going to be revealed? How about a real plan to address immigration? How about ANYTHING beyond tax cuts for the rich?

  34. I don't spend a lot of time in this forum, but I felt obliged to include this: Irrespective of your politics, judicial candidates should be conversant with law in a way that far surpasses the average shlub. The fact that any candidate can't simply reel off code, policy, and interpretation off the top of the head is horrifying.

  42. I will offer Tyler High fans this comparison. We (Mesquite Horn) went 2-7 last year and the coach was reassigned. We hired a coach Allen from North Crowley who improved a 2-8 team to 7-4. Last year that same team went 12-1. Horn was 2-7 before he arrived and he got them to 8-3 in his first year. We were 7pts away from going undefeated in the regular season. I did not know anything about him and after doing some research I found he never lost to the same team twice while at North Crowley. He came in and all the kids bought into him. The offense struggled but the defense was lights out and they carried the team (Horn has never been known for defense). Him coming to Horn was a perfect fit and Woods could do the same at Tyler High. In my opinion you know what you have in a coach by his results in that third year. Tyler High needed a change in culture and I say give the guy a chance. If the kids buy in and the participation numbers come up, Tyler High will return to what they have always been. Good luck to Cujo.
