I can solve this problem in a heartbeat. Coaches quit bing a jerk to officials ESPECIALLY in sub varsity games you are lucky to have officials. School Administrators start kicking jerk parents and fans out of games. Second time they offend ban them from schools. That silliness will stop overnight. UIL bump Minimum pay for sub vqarsity games to $100 / game. PLUS mileage. Bump MINIMUM pay for Varsity games to $200 PLUS mileage. And do NOT for one second tell me schools cannot afford this. I was a coach and teacher for thirty years. Every school I ever worked at threw away more money in a week than officials cost. Schools if you want to ensure your kids have officials make Officials WANT to come to your school by paying them in cash THAT night. If your Admin says "we can't do that" (and they can btw its just a little extra work for them god forbid people in Admin have to do that) get booster club to pay them that night. AND Feed them......WELL not a Concession Stand Hotdog either! If your Admin is too inept to pay them in cash AD;s do what it takes to make sure these guys are not waiting for their check for two and three months. And yes this is standard operating procedure for most schools. I've even seen AD'S put officials checks in their desks for weeks to "pay back" officials that they feel did not do a good job. Trust me, officials talk to each other about schools that do a good job of taking care of them and which schools make it REALLY hard to go there. Guess which schools usually have officials and which do not. When you have a shortage of workers it is because of two things. Pay is not high enough and / or the work conditions stink. Eco 101. It is amazing that schools just throw up their hands at the drop of the hat and say "there is nothing we can do" that is BS. Example: 6 Man schools have the hardest time getting officials. Many are having to play sub varsity and Varsity on the same night to address this. I know a place that has Officials FIGHTING to go call games there. Strawn, Texas. They pay in cash AND the HC feeds the Officials no matter what the sport after the games. At Mary's. He has an open tab there for officials. Take a hint. Schools and the UIL better pull their head out of their fourth point of contact. If the current trend holds you will be having coaches call sub varsity games. And your Varsity Schedules will be getting rearragned around when the officials can show up. To sum up show these folks some respect.4 points

At that point, there would be a northern conference and a southern conference and their winners would play in the title game for the championship. That is where things are headed anyway.4 points

@RETIREDFAN1 you’re right. @KirtFalcon is as brainwashed as @BarryLaverty. Do you two spoon when you go camping?2 points

Has Longview gameday taken over the coverage of Longview football from the LNJ? It just seems crazy to me that the #1 running back in the country is committing in his hometown and the LNJ is not covering the event. No tweets or articles from Jack Stallard, Thomas Bingham or from the ETVarsity account covering the announcement itself. Only a preview article on Taylor making his choice today. I miss Hayden Henry.2 points

Guess I’ll have to wait until Tatum turns pro to cheer for him again after this season.2 points

I’ve called more than my share of junior high B and 7th and 8th grade games. I agree that will very likely have to happen pretty soon, and it won’t be that big a deal. With todays fans, I would never consider becoming a referee or umpire just because of the abuse from the fans. I’ve got a lot of good friends who officiate and I applaud them for still doing it today.2 points

I'm actually a believer in the WGBT temp measurement....talked to a lot of ATs who are a lot smarter than me when it comes to stuff like this and it makes sense to me....wind and cloud cover should absolutely be factored into things when determining "what it feels like" outside I think the UIL will provide guidance based on their medical advisory committee but in the end will leave the final determinations to local decisions2 points

So are we saying if the song was written today, Possum wouldn't spit some Beechnut in that dude's eye, and, he wouldn't shoot him with his old .45? And a country boy wouldn't survive?2 points

They were and again took a FG on the last play of the game to beat them...so I may have missed but when picking the entire state I dont get too worked up if the team I pick pre-season to win it loses on a last second FG in the state game its HS Football and stuff happens....now if the team I pick to win state pre-season goes 7-4 and loses in bi-district....thats a major miss and I'll kick myself1 point

I’m not buying the hype on Groveton. I want to see them win more than 3 games before I say they’re ready to beat a solid team like CC.1 point

Wasn’t WH hoops like, terrible the last few seasons? Seems like a such waste to throw away good fish on that. Get you a basketball coach from Tenaha!1 point

Hide and watch, Larry ... Everything I and others have pointed out about dimocrat corruption has been proven to be true .... it's sad we have a two tiered justice system that has allowed corrupt dimocraps go free ....1 point

You’re exactly right. It’s how the coach assemblies that talent and how he utilizes it. There were some teams much more talented than the Yoemen were during their state championship runs. The coaching was the difference.1 point

I think registered dimocrats should have to take a competence test every year to vote .... Plugs wouldn't have gotten 10% of his votes if we had that in place ....1 point

There is no question the dominant play will end after this season. Timpson will have to go into a total rebuild. Very few teams can continue to dominate year in and year out. It's just not sustainable especially at the 2A level. Hats off to Refugio as they have been real consistent over the years. The Bears will put their 40 and 3 record over the last 3 years on the line one more time. And no matter how it ends its been one heck of a ride. That is extremely difficult to accomplish.1 point

Long as they don't go the Mississippi route we're fine. I read where there if the heat index is 105 or more it's cause for a mandatory stoppage of outdoor activities. I'm going to try to find that link right now. https://www.wtva.com/news/new-state-policy-aims-to-keep-high-school-players-safe-from-heat/article_7cbf8c12-267d-11ee-9980-7bfc657c4b6e.html#:~:text=(WTVA) — The Mississippi High, and the intensity of workouts. Here's a lil bit of it. It's not only for football though in another article I read.1 point

Suck it up buttercup .... get out and do some work .... it's always been hot in the summer in Texas ..... the only thing that's changed is kids aren't acclimated to it .... you can't sit in the air conditioning all day listening to CNN and LSDMSNBC telling you it's record breaking heat EVERY YEAR and then go outside and expect not to pass out from heat exhaustion .... get your mind right and get the kids acclimated ... I hired a couple of high school boys to help me cut down and pile a couple or acres of dead 10 year old pine trees Stihl chain saws, axes, logging chains and tractors .... we started around 7:30 and worked until about 2pm .... one boy quit after 2 days and went back to his air conditioning .... the other is still working with me and I'm almost 70 .... Cooler full of water, Gatorade and plenty of snacks, regular breaks and a good lunch ..... it will make a man out of you .... or you can go back indoors .....1 point

I’m working in it every day. I will spend next week in College Station teaching live fire training at the largest fire/ rescue training school in the world. I will be 50 in less than three weeks. There’s a guy that I work with at the fire training school that is in his 70s, that took time off from his retirement gig as a high school football official so he could watch his grandson play, that will be there all week, gearing up in full firefighter PPE and going into burn rooms where it’s hot enough to bake chicken. Saying that it’s too hot to practice football outside is just ridiculous. It’s an opportunity for kids to learn how to manage the elements and take care of themselves in it. Learn proper hydration, taking frequent breaks, steps for cooling down, etc. 99% of them will not play football past high school. But many of them will need to be able to do manual labor. The real world is a tough environment. Better that they learn to deal with it now. GOOD TIMES CREATE WEAK MEN WEAK MEN CREATE HARD TIMES HARD TIMES CREATE STRONG MEN STRONG MEN CREATE GOOD TIMES Do we want today’s high school football players to be a generation of strong men or weak men?1 point
