UPDATE: UIL gives two-year playoff ban to Alto
villagegenius replied to ChicoEsquela's topic in High School Sports
I watched/listened to the meeting live out of pure interest simply because this is a landmark case for the UIL. As they said, nothing like this has ever happened before at this time. The UIL was painted into a corner. I believe it was Dr Harrison who said that the UIL purposefully has safeguards in place in November and December to let schools reconfirm their numbers in case a mistake was made. For the timing of this to happen in August, it’s too late. They had no choice. If they had let Alto compete in 2A-D2 with the right to advance, then what would stop a large number of schools from “making a mistake” and not notifying the UIL until May or whenever it was the allegations came to light. As was said in the meeting, rules are rules and no matter what the intent was, rules were broken and there are consequences. Personally, I think Alto dodged a bullet. Based on what I heard in the meeting, I thought the UIL might carry the punishment across all sports due to the obvious lack of concern on Altos part on getting the process correct. There were, according to Alto ISD themselves, literally no procedures or processes in place to make sure what they presented to the UIL was factually correct. As the NCAA would so fondly put it, that’s “Lack of Institutional Control” if I’ve ever seen it. The UIL relies on schools to do their due diligence to make sure that number they turn in is correct, and Alto failed. Whether you think it was intentional or not, as someone in the meeting said, that is a whole lot of strange coincidences and we just don’t believe in coincidences here. -
He meant number of kids at football practice, not total teeth in the county

WIDE OPEN! I think the playoffs would actually be pretty boring. East Bernard most years in Region 4 West Rusk if they can continue their last decade or so in Region 3. Region 2? Maybe Holliday? Region 1? Wall/Childress? I don’t know man that’d be Christmas in February for a whole heck of a lot of teams. And wow 2A-D1 would be DYNAMITE to watch. Poth and Tidehaven probably can’t hang with Refugio/Shiner but they would add some good depth to the region. Region 3 would become an absolute blood bath, even more than it already is. Region 2 you might see DF and De Kalb and they’d run the region with ease. Region 1 would be Canadians to lose yearly.

2022 Alignment Numbers Abernathy 256 Canadian 280 Daingerfield 271 De Kalb 254 Elysian Fields 253 Newton 260 Poth 258 Tidehaven 260 Waskom 276 Alot of really good football being played amongst those teams who are all within dropping distance if the numbers move much/a small class comes through

UPDATE: UIL gives two-year playoff ban to Alto

I don’t have a good answer for that. The UIL would just deal with the school part of it. I’m sure it would be up to the individual school district to handle any punishment of an individual. Like Greezy has said, too many unknowns right now to say anything one way or the other. -

Does it matter? I get where you are coming from, and Alto does have some awesome gameday atmospheres…but IF (and it’s a big IF until facts come out Tuesday morning) they cheated to get their numbers down, they have to be punished. Doesn’t matter how it got turned in, cheating is cheating and in this case it would be a matter that could drastically impact not only their season but seasons of a lot of folks in D2. *And to clarify, I am not saying they did/did not cheat. -
Please go and show me where I have said Texas was the most recognizable? You are proving a “point” that I have yet to mention or argue.
-
Yea but have you ever worn an Ohio State or Alabama hat at a Catholic function? Just because they recognize it’s Notre Dame doesn’t mean it’s the most recognizable.
-
Let’s try this again. Number 3 on your list mentions new OCs son. He comes from Wolfe City. He’s going to see quite a bit caliber better of talent than at Wolfe City.
-
Negative ghost rider. I started my part of the conversation by trying to agree with you and giving a real life analogy of your point. I have yet to dispute anything you’ve said other than yes, they did relate it to the football team. Instead, you wanted to turn around and take a shot at Texas by saying it wasn’t the football program they recognized. Spin away Wetsu, spin away.

I’m sure the coaches kid can play, but it’s a big step up from a district of Alba-Golden, Celeste, Como-Pickton, Cooper, Honey Grove and Rivercrest to matching up with Daingerfield, Elysian Fields, Harmony, Hughes Springs, New Diana and Queen City. He’ll have better talent around him, but especially the top 1/2 of the district will probably be a speed of game he hasn’t played before.
-
I guess them asking if I played American football didn’t have anything to do with them recognizing the football team. im not interested in arguing. I was posting and quoting you to backup your point, the brand is pretty powerful. The logo being recognized and associated with the entire state as you mentioned also backs up the point, it’s pretty powerful.

I’ve been to Europe and Asia in recent years before Covid hit. It’s amazing the amount of people who say something to you when you are wearing the Texas logo. And also amazing the amount of double takes you get but people won’t stop and talk. Seriously. It’s insane. The funniest part of it all is 80% of the people then ask how many horses you have. They assume all Texans are Cowboys lol

For the first time since somewhere in the Mack area I feel like Texas has a head coach who can atleast see where the problem is and what the solution would be to help fix it. By no means am I jumping ahead and saying Sark is/isn’t the guy, but atleast he can recognize the issues and is trying to fix it. 1) OL has been an issue for a while. Well he’s got about pretty good OL coach in and also has done a pretty bang up job recruiting the OL. 2) Defense. In his media appearances he doesn’t skate around the fact that the defense has to improve. He’s starting to recruit defenders at all 3 levels and not just camp all stars in underwear. And oh yea he got one of the better defensive coaches of the last two decades to join his staff.

Sideline to Sideline 4A and 3A Toughest Districts
villagegenius replied to Gsquared's topic in High School Sports
Pretty accurate assessment. Someone who doesn’t make the playoffs out of 11 probably makes it in the other 3 districts. If you take West Rusk out of 9, it’s a bad district. Those teams will all be competitive with each other, but the district very possibly goes 1-3 in round 1. 10 is going to be an interesting watch. De Kalb, New Boston, Hooks and Pewitt could all finish in any order 1-4. Don’t see either of the others cracking the top 4. Newton should be really good. A lot of folks down 45 think New Waverly has a shot at knocking them off, but I just don’t see it happening. That would throw in me heck of a wrench into the playoff bracket if it were to happen . -

It’s because EF is down I kid. I kid. -
A lot of the talk has been about the offense, what does Tatum have defensively besides the man child known as CJ Fite in the middle of the DL?
-
Tatum gonna be just fine. Probably sooner rather than later. Theyll be in games for no other reason than they can shorten the games by just pounding away. I’m gonna go on a limb and say they (the coaches) are quietly optimistic about their potential.

Week 1 #4 Daingerfield @ Gladewater
villagegenius replied to EastTxFinest's topic in High School Sports
From looking on Maxpreps at the roster and LNJ for stats I see the following guys returning at the skill spots for Daingerfield on offense that played significant time #3 Wright (RB) #7 Rodgers (WR) #8 Hampton (WR) #15 Gilbert (WR) As someone else already mentioned, #10 Johnson looks like he’s next man up at QB considering he stepped in against West Rusk and Waskom. There are several others with varsity highlights from last year but can’t find stats on them: #9 Wallace (I think he was hurt but my memory ain’t the best) #12 Kelly #14 Mosley #16 Blackburn #17 Frazier #20 Webb -
Timpson is the favorite and probably a step ahead of everyone but not unbeatable. The group of Garrison, Joaquin and Shelbyville are the biggest threats to Timpson and a step above the next 2. Grapeland and San Augustine need to bring their A game to knock off any of the 4 above them. West Sabine wishes they were still D2. I don’t think it’s outrageous for the final standings to be: 6-0 Timpson 4-2 Garrison 4-2 Joaquin 4-2 Shelbyville 2-4 Grapeland/SA 1-5 Grapeland/SA 0-6 West Sabine
-
I’m not stepping out on a limb here when I say Timpson is going to have top 3 collection of skill kids in the state in 2A. My question mark for them is up front. I don’t have a roster and you might know better than me, but weren’t most of the OL guys seniors?
-
So you think they’ll have all 4 non-district games (Beckville, Jefferson, Daingerfield and Waskom) most likely over by halftime? Please don’t be offended if I don’t take you quite seriously. You just tried to validate one of your arguments by using preseason rankings as to determine their playoff path. As for Timpson, they are going to be a really solid 2A football team. But last year might’ve been their best shot at getting over the region 4 hump. There’s going to be a lot of new faces up front on both sides of the ball.
-
You might want to double check their pre district schedule

District 10 2A Division 1 Preseason Rank

No reason Beckville can’t make a trip to the regional finals. District numbering by UIL definitely did them a favor. Won’t see Centerville or District 11 champ until then. -
