  1. Hope your are correct, but in no way do I see PG only scoring 30 points. maybe 30 points by the end of the first quarter!
  2. I'm not putting Carthage down one bit. I KNOW that Preston's defense will bring the thunder in the playoffs.
  3. No Clue about the sub Varsity Games. PG coach claimed they have one of the if not the best defenses in Texas. I can't stand PG and Gibson, but he very well may be right with that statement. Hate to say it, but PG will run all over the Gilmer defense. They won't be able to stop them. Gilmer Scores some points because the offense is so explosive, but PG wins. And I hope I'm wrong, because I would like for the Buckeyes to play Carthage in the 3rd round of the playoffs , if both teams make it that far.
  4. Thanks for confirming he was as good as I remembered. Kid was tough, strong, and fast. Great player
  5. Lot of great QB's mentioned in this thread. I'll give my list of QB's I have actually seen play live at some point. Here's some of the best I've seen: 1. Gilmer --- Stump Godfrey --- He is Gilmer's #1 QB. He took us to two State Championship Games winning one in 2009 with a 16-0 record. He probably still has a lot of the school records. We have had a lot of good QB's since 2000: Manny Johnson was an all state WR as a junior and gets moved to QB his senior year and takes the Buckeyes to an undefeated State Championship in 2004 and went on to play at OU and even played some regular seasons with the Dallas Cowboys; McClane Carter put up crazy stats for the 2014 State Championship team and he sat out 23 Quarters that year (almost 6 full games) due to all the blowouts that year; Poppy Brown was an accurate passer and was money when we needed 2 yards on 4th down, he was going to get it 99% of the time; Tanner Barr was darn solid through the air and could tuck it and run also and unexpectedly took us to the State Championship game in 2012, where we ran into a freight train from Navasota called the Rattlers; Brandon Tennison could run or throw and took us to two straight State Championships that we unfortunately got hammered in, but he got us there. Honorable mention goes to Tony Darden, if he had played in the post 2000's era of Spread Offense football, he would have put up crazy stats. 2. Tatum --- Stephen Hodge --- Hated when Gilmer played Tatum with Hodge back there. He was fun to watch and and terrifying to face. Never saw him give up on any play, no matter how bad the situation. He could turn nothing into a TD in the blink of an eye. Skipped some Gilmer games over the years that I knew we would win easily just to watch Hodge play and he never disappointed. As mentioned earlier, Overstreet was special too. 3. Daingerfield --- Tyler Boyd --- remember watching the first game he started against Gilmer and after the game my brother and I both said, there isn't anybody in 2A (the old 2A) that can hang with Daingerfield and this QB. They are going to win multiple State Championships. Got a lot of respect for Daingerfield playing Gilmer those years. They could have easily reeled off a 45 to 50 game winning streak if they had not played Gilmer those years. 4. Mineola --- Jeremiah Crawford ---- believe he was a 4 year starter at QB? Won the State Championship his Senior year. Could run and pass. Darn good player. 5. Pleasant Grove --- Ben Harmon ---- that kid could run the PG offense to perfection. I hated when Gilmer had to play against PG when Harmon was the QB. Perfect example of right player for the right system. He was tough! 6. Henderson --- Monsta Brown --- don't know if this counts because as I remember they didn't start using him at QB till halfway through his senior season, but man, that was one strong and tough kid. I'll defer to the Henderson faithful to name who they think is their best, but I just remember this kid was awesome. 7. Carthage --- I'll defer to the Carthage faithful on this one---- Carthage has had a ton of fantastic QB's since Surratt took over. Heck, the current Surratt (sophomore) at QB could end up being the best of the bunch by the time he gets done. Y`all are always so solid at QB every year. 8. Navasota --- Shelton Eppler --- had a friend from Navasota, so I got to see Eppler play a good bit of games. Of course he had a great WR named Tren`Davian Dickson at WR that was spectacular, but Eppler could throw the ball!! Lots of great QB`s around this area!
  6. I'll respect your criticism. we will see. and, please, learn how to write a coherent sentence!!
  7. Maybe, and I mean Maybe in the Region, they don't get beat. But I don't see them going all the way this year. If Gilmer had a mediocre defense, they would have a dang good shot at beating PG and Carthage and going all the way. Unfortunately, Gilmer has NO defense and the coaches are not doing their jobs, and I don't care what some other critics say when they blame the kids instead of the coaches. We will see on Friday. I think PG will run all over Gilmer and beat them. Then I think PG will play Carthage in round 3 and win in a tough game.
  8. Agree 100% I live in Carthage now and have watched them twice this year. They are VERY young. They have also had a lot of injuries. If you want to put that feather in your cap that you beat Surratt and Carthage, especially beating them in the play-offs, you better do it this year. Once this Carthage team gets this seasons experience, look-out the next two years. Then when Surratt's kid graduates, I think he will leave Carthage and go coach in College. I respect the heck out of Surratt and Carthage and this town and I pull for them as long as they aren't playing the Buckeyes. But, they can get beat this year. I want the Buckeyes to beat PG on Friday, but I don't see it happening. That would set up a Buckeye/Bulldog 3rd round and I would like to beat Carthage one last time before Surratt is done, because the Carthage 2024 and 2025 teams are going to be spectacular. Anyway, just hope for competitive games and nobody gets hurt.
  9. PG wins this game. Buckeye defense is pathetic. The QB from PG will run all over Gilmer. Gilmer will score, but it won't be enough. Hope I'm wrong, and I can't stand PG, but that's the way I see it.
  10. I played on those teams, so you don't have to remind me! We got our butts kicked! These coaches are letting the kids down. Period.
  11. The absolute worst Gilmer defense I have ever seen. And I don't mean since the Traylor era started, I mean this is the worst defense I ever remember Gilmer having. I know they lost some real good players on defense from last year, but they have enough talent to at least be somewhat respectable this year. I don't know what's going on with the coaching on the defense, but something has to change. No excuse to be this bad and giving up this many points. It's a joke and the coaches should be embarrassed by the terrible job they are doing with this defense. On Will Henderson, on the sideline it looked like he was telling the trainer that it wasn't his knee or ankle, but the shin/calf area of his left leg that got twisted when he got tackled. Strange injury and I hope he is ok, not only for the rest of the football season, but for track season next year. Cadon Tennison had a great night. His deep throws were on the money and he had some good runs. Nice to see him running the ball more. In two weeks, Pleasant Grove offense is going to have a field day with this Gilmer defense. I'm afraid it's going to get ugly.
  12. Gilmer can't stop a running QB, so they will score a lot of points and the Gilmer coaching staff won't make any adjustments to stop it. At least that is what has happened all season long so far! Gilmer will out-score them, so I think your 52-42 prediction is pretty close. Heck, it may be more like 62-59 or something like that.
  13. Congrats to the Gilmer Buckeyes for winning the State Championship in Track this week. Yet another Championship for East Texas. Proud of all the kids and coaches who worked so hard to accomplish this. It's Gilmer's second Championship in Track, the first being in 2015. Hopefully East Texas can bring home some success in baseball also. Football is right around the corner and it's going to be another great season for our kids here in East Texas.
  14. Carthage should win this one, even with PG making some great adjustments after getting manhandled by Gilmer back at the start of October, it won't be enough. I do think that PG will score more than one TD, they have a dynamic QB and he can throw or run, so at least the Bulldog defense will have to deal with that. Hope both teams play a good clean game with no injuries and no matter who wins this game, I'll be pulling for them to bring home another State Championship for East Texas.
  15. Thanks. I'm glad it's not The Star, but I'm not thrilled about playing in Mesquite. Oh well, at least we are playing!
  16. To hell with playing at SFA and especially THE STAR. Lindale was mentioned, that would be fine, as would Lobo or Rose. I hate THE STAR.
  17. 25 - 7 Buckeyes Final Only Rusk TD was a pick 6 at end of 1st half. Gilmer coaching was terrible this game. I'll say it for the final time tonight, whoever is calling plays for Gilmer needs to be relieved of this duty. He is terrible. Hopefully Tennison is OK and will be able to play next week. Safe travels to everyone.
  18. 19 -7 end of 3rd Gilmer play calling is a joke. Carthage has nothing to worry about Y'all will crush us.
  19. 19 - 7 Buckeyes Halftime Have said it all year, who ever is calling plays for Gilmer should be relieved of that duty. Terrible play calling. Rusk is a decent team and have some athletes. McCown is a good player and they have some other kids who can go. Weather is terrible. Refs are letting the kids play and I like that. Gilmer QB got horse-collar tackled and is a little banged up. Hope he is alright. That's about it for now.
  20. not much of a game. gotta give Pitt kids credit. they never quit. Hope they give the Bulldogs the same no quit effort next week, even when they are down 50 points.
  21. Congrats to Carthage. Seems like a dang good team even by Carthage standards. Tell us Carthage faithful, where does this 2022 Bulldog team rank right now in the current era?
  22. Since this is the Gilmer vs. Spring Hill thread by default........... Buckeyes 54 Panthers 0 Final
  23. terrible game. worst refs I have ever seen. Just completely incompetent. Not calling anything in favor or lopsided for either team....just a clueless group of idiots. Game was over before it ever started. Rohan Fluellen got his ankle banged up, so hopefully it's nothing serious and we can sit him and our guys for the next two weeks. That is about it for this waste of a game.
  24. Whoever is calling the offensive plays for the Buckeyes needs to be relieved of this duty and a new coach needs to be calling plays. Simple as that. Lindale is a good/solid team with a good coaching staff. The Lindale folks did a great job. I always enjoy playing in the new stadium in Lindale. Very nice stadium and staff working there. #22 for the Buckeyes is electric when he touches the ball. Good luck Lindale, y`all got a good thing going with your town.
