  1. So, basically what you’re saying is you threw out a completely unfounded accusation of a school cheating by allowing a kid to move into their district and live with a complete stranger just to play football for their team? Gotcha. Never said a great program doesn’t attract kids that want to play. If a family is willing to pick up and move to another town on their own dime just to play football and win some games, nobody can stop them. However, the situation (as you stated it) can be stopped and those kids are denied eligibility by the DEC & the UIL upholds that denial of eligibility 99.9% of the time when the kid/family appeal to the UIL. I lived in Refugio for the first 10 years Herring was there. I can promise you (regardless of your feelings about him), there isn’t a better coach around at getting the kids that are in the hallways to come out and play. He also benefits from the fact that the community’s expectation is for ALL the boys in high school to play. That helps, but so does winning and their facilities are probably the best in Class 2A. A small school can absolutely be a power for a long time, hell, Aledo & Southlake were powerhouses in the old 2A when they were tiny little towns — and they’ve maintained that powerhouse status as they’ve climbed to bigger classifications through the decades. Almost every single kid that has “moved to Refugio” over the last decade plus is a kid that had lived in Refugio before. There are maybe 2-3 kids during that time period that transferred in and weren’t from Refugio originally or didn’t have a lot of their family already living in Refugio. Refugio had more talent squandered in the 80s, 90s, & early 00s than they have now. The difference is coaching. Don’t look now, but their best class is in 7th grade from what I’ve heard — so they will be loaded for bear the next several years.
  2. You do realize that what you’re claiming is illegal by UIL Rules, right? One can’t just move to a town and live with a “total stranger to play football”. There are regulations in place to deal with moving in with a guardian, or someone else who is not the parent, and also for kids who have lived in the district for numerous years. When a kid moves and that kid/family/new school fill out the PAPF, the DEC has to approve or deny. So, if it got approved by the DEC he moved to then his old ISD signed off on his PAPF. The districts and ADs do periodic residential checks to make sure the kids are living at the address they claim, and also to see who else is living there. What you are claiming (as you’ve written it) is LIBEL, and defames a school district and school officials. If you believe it to be fact, then PROVE IT! Turn it in to the ISD & the UIL.
  3. It is not going to go away. So we can either close down everything for a long time essentially shuttering our way of life, and risk the collapse our entire governmental & economic systems. Or, we can accept the fact that people are going to get it and just try to do the best we can to be careful and limit the spread as much as possible and move forward with life.
  4. Actually, I would have it this way: 1.) Shiner 2.) Post 3.) Cisco 4.) San Augustine 5.) Refugio Refugio lost a ton of 3 year starters, and the Mascorro kid that had started at RB & MLB for 4 years. They’ll have quite a few young & inexperienced kids playing, expecting them to start a good amount of Sophomores from what I’ve heard. If they’re ripe for the picking, this year would be the year though. They’re fixing to be loaded again after that.
  5. Refugio had to play 13 out of 15 on the road in 2017 due to Harvey damage (1st game was canceled), & still made it back to Arlington to try and defend their 2016 Title. So, it’s not like these same kids haven’t done it before. I don’t know why the media is blowing it up now. Seems like every few days it pops up again. I know this, it isn’t a big deal to the kids and coaches there.
  6. Actually, if you were really paying attention, you would have seen that Refugio called timeout to get some different kids in the game. When Refugio lined up in their formation after the timeout, #3 wasn’t on the field like he was supposed to be - so Herring sent him out there. He ran inside the the numbers and lined up on the line like the rules say. The film shows a run play was called but no San Augustine player bothered to cover #3 after he ran on the field. So, instead of handing it off to #21 the QB threw it to #3 who then ran it in for a TD.....mystery solved
  7. Ok, thanks. I looked recently at the local stores but thy didn't have any
  8. Was wondering if any one had seen or could post the Winter Edition Top 10 or whatever for 2A-D1 and 2A-D2. Sorry, I haven't seen it anywhere.
  9. You mean 500yds combined in the 2 games? I watched the Yoe-Refugio game. The final score doesn't tell the true story of that game, IMO. Refugio out-gained Yoe: 601 to 306, and that was with Refugio having 120yds in penalties that night. Also, Refugio was really young this year (like Yoe) and they only lose 3 starters on O & D. One could say that they have the potential to possibly be better next year. Not saying they will be, but I'm definitely looking forward to that game in Milam County next year!!! It's gon' be good.
