  1. Garrison coaches did a really good job of adjusting their offense during this game. LK defense was giving them fits with their pass rush but Garrison went to their short pass game and were successful. I thought the game was much ch closer than the final score indicates
  2. See. My point. I get on here for a good laugh when I need it
  3. Haven't seen either team this year. Looked it up and the game is at Garrison so I'll go Dawgs
  4. Wasn't referring to anyone specific just the nature of Smoaky.com. Your attitude about your cancer is commendable and I wish you health and happiness. Yes, coaches have a huge influence on the lives of young people and hopefully a positive one. I just have a difficult time with some on here that criticize everything from play calling to defensive philosophy. If they really want to help then go to the Fieldhouse and ask for the marker and step up to the dry erase board
  5. One of my favorite stories that heard from a coach was this. High School soccer game going on and a parent in the stands was just giving the coaches and officials heck. During a time out one of the coaches went to the bleachers and asked him to calm it down. The parent yelled at the coach "hey I am a soccer coach". The coach turned to him (he knew him) and yelled no your not your an insurance salesman, which he was. Look, support your team is a must. Being respectful of your opponent is a must. Being an anonymous expert on Smoaky just makes me laugh
  6. Those Bulldogs have an ace up their sleeve for u poker players. The AD knows football and how to treat employees. They have a group of coaches that know how to work with kids but still hold them accountable. Go dogs
  7. Don't know why the quote button wont work so. sackem I cant really comment on how Huntington will be in basketball this year, usually they put a pretty good product on the floor
  8. Huntington will roll...................................................................out the basketballs. Tatum by a few
  9. Got to go with the school where I had my first coaching job. Lions
  10. I have a nephew who just started coaching so I went out to watch practice early durin the season. During tackling drills I noticed that on angle tackles NOONE was getting their head across. When I asked my nephew about it after practice he claims that in order to get the head out of the tackle they no longer teach head across technique the head goes behind the runner. ARE YOU KIDDIN ME. If other schools are teaching this technique don't get on the players for arm tackling b/c that is what they are being taught. Lets just get ready for a #### ton of shoulder and collarbone injuries.
  11. Don't yall dare tell her but its my wife. Oh my lord the questions I have to answer.
  12. if you had another eye you'd be a cyclopse
  13. Way back when I was fortunate enough to read the parent letter that was sent to all freshman (about 20 pages) from a college basketball coach. The one question that has always stuck with me was this. Do you play favorites with your players. His response was yes I do, I have my 5 favorites that I play and it is your sons JOB to become one of my favorites. I wish I still had that letter b/c there was a lot of really good info on dealing with parents.
  14. Just wondering if the asst coach at Tyler Chapel Hill is or was interested in the position. I believe that is where he was before he went to Chapel Hill. I would like to here something out of Bullard on whats happening
  15. In my 28 years of coaching (20) in baseball I have never seen an act by an umpire even close to this. Not even going to watch summer, select,or tournament ball. Joke on the homeplate umpire or not this is in a playoff game. Bordertown is right, umpires hear enough from outside the fence as it is, why give them any more ammo. I think it was just a really bad judgement call (pardon the pun) on his part.
  16. I think he trying to revolutionize a new technique for dodging tree limbs that hit people in the face
  17. We always trust the all seeing, all knowing Doomer
  18. Well if that's the case I don't think that Frankston qualifies as a big school. Loper was there for something like 30 years. seems like a rumor to me imho. He did retire though
  19. I have heard that Coach Carr is interested in another Head Bball position in the area . What are the Eagle faithful thoughts on Carr coming back
  20. I have worked for both types. The ones that treated exceptional players the same as backups (almost) never had to defend the integrity of their programs. The ones that gave preferential treatment were frequently late to practice b/c of a meeting with the Supt. The thing that gets people all up in arms is different punishments for the same offense. A blanket punishment for offenses doesn't really work. Examples would be a lineman and a receiver are caught cheating on a test( and in the old school way) the teacher reports it to the coach. Is running a mile after practice for a week fair to the lineman and is flipping tractor tires fair to the receiver. If you run a program with a clear understanding of expectations of your athletes wins WILL come. Don't know if that answered your question but it is either stop here or write an essay
  21. I grew up in the Golden Triangle (Beaumont to be exact) Back then it was known as the NFL capital of the nation b/c of the number of players from that area playing in the NFL. Consolidation in that area has created some powerhouse programs. I'm just not sure if Silsbee was part of the G.T.
  22. Careful that's ATHLETIC trainer. :) I can understand taking up for his job description but accusing me of not knowing the bylaws.(nor does he care) It is state law that you report any abuse and there are websites to go to to report it. The reporting of the alleged incident could have been handled differently imho
  23. WOW Crucify? Lets see here, I asked how many years they had been a trainer, then made the statement that they had been at Jville before and assumed they knew the difference between a proper technique and abuse. Where is any crucifixion? Either you are very sensitive or the husband.
  24. In todays day and age of frivolous lawsuits the school that would allow a person that has not been employed by the school district to participate in any practice is just opening up themselves for trouble. Throwing bp to your kid after practice in the cage, great, but not during practice. Over the course of my career I have seen parents of athletes coach Baseball, Track, and believe it or not be the trainer. I distanced myself from those situations b/c of the legal ramifications. Don't get me wrong, I think its great that parents want to help out but the legality of the situation has to be considered. I don't know if your looking out for your team or trying to get someone in trouble but legally they have to be a full time employee. Varsity,Sub-varsity, or Jr. High makes no difference
