  1. This depends on the school. If you are Gilmer or Carthage, you may want to play some studs to prepare your kids for long playoff runs. If you are going to struggle to get wins, and the playoffs are unlikely, put some "cupcakes" on there to get some confidence for your kids. Could be your only chance at winning OR propel you into a playoff run.
  2. I've seen plenty of Argyle games over the past few years. There is no one else I've seen who makes better defensive adjustments at the half than Argyle has. He should be just fine.
  3. Congrats to Coach Mouser! Definitely deserving.
  4. I'm saying, if the coach is a "great coach," which I have no reason to doubt, and we don't blame kids, all that's left is administration. Maybe they have some identity and decision making issues.
  5. Graduating the guys they did last year was gonna hurt. That being said, last time I checked, they had won a grand total of 1 game. The new guy is supposed to be a good coach. I have no knowledge of him either way. If he won previously, it has to be something going on at the place itself, not him. I know I saw some subvarsity play the past couple of years at tourneys, and they were not great, definitely not big. Hate to put all the blame on 14-18 year old kids, so the only place left to look is administration.
  6. Pretty sure they beat Gainesville (I know) 93-4 last week.
  7. I heard Josh McDaniels was gonna get the job.
  8. True. This senior class is the beef. Their PG is a junior, I think, and she's good, but a lot of size graduates.
  9. I'm sure Tatum and Gilmer are good, but Argyle is a different level. Not many of them are under 6ft, and they are probably going to the Tourney for the 4th year in a row, gunning for their 3rd straight win. Their HC won 6 in 10 years at Brock and 2 in 4, I believe, in Argyle. And, no, they are not East Texas.
  10. I would say they should do just that. Get a non-East Texas State Champ. Don't just get somebody cuz they're from East Texas and "know a guy."
  11. That is absolutely wrong, at least in my case. The whole point of this is that I am tired of hearing fans scream at teams and post about teams who do not take a knee. Many believe it is a rule that everyone take a knee during an injury. I feel it does not show respect because you are on a knee. So I guess the REAL point is that it is much more disrespectful to scream and talk about a lack character of coaches and players on message boards when they do not take a knee. I understand some people feel that is the right thing to do. If that is your idea, go ahead and take a knee. If it is not, don't. I don't believe it shows respect at all. I believe it is a lemming mentality. If it was the respectful thing to do, basketball, baseball, hockey, etc would do it.
  12. Sure, moving out of the way to let the trainers work, staying quiet, clapping when the injured player gets up, kneel and pray if you feel inclined, maybe even tell the injured player "good luck," "God bless," etc if they are carted off. Taking a knee, and most assuredly, screaming from the stands about the need to take said knee, are not signs of respect. All the players on the field and sideline, the cheerleaders, and the little kids working as ballboys or playing football in the grass taking a knee is not respect. It is some people's perception of respect. Like one reply said, perception can be reality, I suppose, but calling an entire program or the coaches disrespectful due to not taking a knee is a ridiculous, glass house type situation.
  13. Thank you! That is the point. I never said or implied to be classless. I am saying that taking a knee in no way shows the classiness or sportsmanship of a team or its coaches.
  14. Well, now I see where all the screaming and yelling about disrespect comes from on Friday nights. Thanks for clearing that up.
  15. It has nothing to do with respect. As far as old school mentality goes, I never saw it done until about 5 years ago or so. Definitely wasn't done when I played. Of course you should be respectful about an injury. The point is, forcing everyone on the field to take a knee due to an injury is asinine. It shows no respect to take a knee. That is what clapping after they get up is for. Standing in silence is respectful. Does everyone take a knee in basketball? How about baseball, volleyball, hockey, track? Hell, should we all take a knee after the 110 hurdles if someone fell? Next time someone trips and falls in the store while I'm there, I'll make sure everyone around me takes a knee so we can be respectful.
  16. No one is crying about anything. And taking a knee, especially for a long time could lead to cramps, pulls, etc. Highly unlikely, true. The point is, it has nothing to do with respect. I brought it up because it was on the Friday night football app. Someone claimed Argyle and Pottsboro are classless because they "never take a knee," during injuries. That is an ignorant stance taken by pee wee dads who believe they are real coaches.
  17. an injury: Why has it become a "sign of respect"? It has nothing to do with respect or sportsmanship. It is a pee wee football thing that parents and players have moved on with into the higher ranks of football. Every time there is an injury now you see every player in the field and sideline drop. It looks stupid and could possibly lead to more injuries or cramps on those players. Instead, the teams should move to the numbers and stay out of the way. If a team doesn't, they are "disrespectful." Ignorant fans will yell and post to message boards about how team X doesn't take a knee out of respect. What a joke. Thoughts?
  18. The transfer was for sports. His parents said so in an interview. Apparently, the rules don't matter when it gets sent to Austin. He is not the only one who was approved in this way this year. And, by the way, Mitchusson is not "supposedly a 4.45." The kid can straight up fly. All that being said, White Oak wins this one by 2+ tds.
  19. Whitesboro played tough and beat Pottsboro, true. Of course, PBoro's QB didn't play, and they are not even close to the same team without him. Coach Gill is a great coach (and even better man, ha), but the Bearcats don't have what it takes to pull this one out. It may stay close for a qtr, maybe even a half, but Mineola wins by 3 tds +.
