But truth is, you could make that argument for all the teams left in the bracket. Even Gilmer. I know they're offensive heavy. But don't sleep on the Buckeyes defense. They're good too.

Correct. Gilmer's D is good against the run, but I think the secondary is suspect at times; however, I’m not sure if there are any “passing” teams left other than the Buckeyes??

  2. I hate talking about this when there are still games to be played out of respect of teams not mentioned; however, I feel there are only 4 teams you can mention in regards to this thread. WOS, CS, Gilmer and Celina. Out of these teams, WOS, CS and Celina are more defense oriented as opposed to Gilmer being more of we will just outscore you. Defense wins championships, but which of the teams listed stop Gilmer’s offense who is averaging 65 ppg in the playoffs so far? Is Celina still running that 10-1 defense? If so, they will get hammered by Gilmer.

I can guarantee the Vandals will have no trouble keeping their drives going, if the Buckeyes keep racking up the penalty yards.  Our boys keep giving the Refs reasons to throw the laundry and it will eventually get them beat.

You honestly believe those penalties were legit? Some were, most were not. Against Mexia they were not penalized at all. Those dingleberry refs Friday were like oh yeah? Watch this! It was sad and pathetic. Hopefully those guys are done for the year.

I heard someone say that Gilmer set a record in this game for penalties and penalty yards, over 250 yards in penalties I think.  Nothing stopped the Buckeyes but themselves.  Cudos to Caddo Mills.  They made some great plays.  We definitely can't play that way again for the rest of the playoffs or our goals will not be realized.  Every team that is left is a good team and very capable of beating us if we continue without discipline.

The Buckeyes remind me of box of chocolates, you never know what you're going to get.

That officiating crew was horrendous! Typical clueless Dallas chapter.

Van’s defense is definitely suspect. The secondary is the weakest part of the whole team, which is obviously not a good thing against Gilmer, but the Run D is super solid.

The offense is truly rather explosive. Jackson Rainey is just an absolute X-Factor, they seem to be more Run-Heavy as of late in these playoffs, but our passing game is extremely efficient. For the most part, Van seems to be able to move the ball at will.

I’m going to take Van in a close one.

I think Van will be able to pass some if given time, but don’t believe they will be able to run much. Tennison will pick the Van secondary apart. Gilmer will win, but by how much depends on discipline and turnovers.

I seen Gilmer when GW played them, they left the center of the field open too. I'll agree that Van will give Gilmer fits.

Van is playing good football right now. Van could possibly give Gilmer fits for a variety of reasons, but Gilmer will make the necessary adjustments. Gilmer’s defense is never really dominant, so Van would have some success doing some stuff. Their problem, as well as others not named Carthage, will be stopping the Buckeye offense. Gilmer will likely win against Van, but the Vandals could make it a very interesting game for sure! Hope this game happens and is played close by.

If all goes as planned, will Gilmer play Pittsburg or PG in the 4th round?

Let’s get thru round two before talking round four. Lots of football to be played before then and anything can happen. However; if Pitt and PG were to play again, I think Pitt has improved more since the last time those two played. I’d say Pittsburg.

The Buckeyes "should" win this one comfortably, but they can't afford to take any team lightly.  Lowly Mexia moved the ball on us way too easily, although they only scored twice.  I know some of our defensive starters had limited playing time against Mexia, and a lot of that yardage given up can be attributed to some of the subs.  To their credit, they didn't break but twice all game.  Caddo Mills has a better team on both sides of the ball than Mexia, so we need to stay focused.  I would absolutely LOVE to see us play a complete game on a weekly basis.  The competition gets better and better the further into the playoffs we get.

Mexia had some success thru the air against the Buckeye secondary at times. Caddo Mills is more balanced and will probably throw it more than Mexia did, so Gilmer’s secondary will need to defend better, take better angles and certainly tackle better or this game could be closer that anticipated! I don’t think Caddo Mills will have much success running the ball.
