  1. Really competitive between these top three teams. MP fell off badly at the end of last season. They have athletes everywhere, but not sure how many impact players graduated. Nac has athletes everywhere too so anything could happen. Expect someone in the bottom three to steal one from the big three.
  2. Oh yeah. Marshall, Texas High=weak. , I forgot Gilmer was so good.
  3. Tom Landy is right. Lane is clear choice here. Pine Tree was once an easy win on everyone’s schedule and Coach Lane has really change the culture at PT. No one in that district looks forward to playing the pirates now. They have brought back smash mouth football. If the Buckeyes want to return to the glory days- then Lane better be their guy. If not, be ready for more high expectations but poor outcomes.
  4. Mt. Vernon gets thrashed in this one. Coach Briles is a great coach but he is about to be reintroduced to East Texas smash mouth football. That flashy pass game is going to be met with a hard core defense. I hate it for Mt. Vernon because of all the hype we have heard out of Franklin County. Mt. Vernon wants to be elite at everything, but it is just not their time in regards to football. I am sure they will dominate in girls' basketball and softball. ll.
  5. I think the tigers have a real shot to make some improvements this season. Looks like they will be able to put up some points this year. A great QB and a couple of tough RBs will make it difficult on defenses. The only question may be the Tiger defense. In the scrimmage, the LE Leopards were able to score three times. Hopefully with time, the defense can develop before district play begins. Tigers win in a close one.
  6. North Lamar is a run attack team. They have a big back in the backfield, but the QB makes more things happen. Expect to see a lot of zone stuff with the QB keeping most of the time. They don't pass much at all. I expect MP to stack the box and play heavy run defense. The Tigers will beat the Panthers with ease. North Lamar just does not have the speed needed to catch the Tigers. MP hits hard this year so I don't expect the Panthers to hold up long against the MP defense. Watch for the Williams kid form MP to lower a shoulder at the second level and leave Panthers laying all over Sam Parker.
  7. I have to disagree with the Tiger bashing. MP has given our Wildcats more than we could handle for the last couple of years. I am hearing that they moved the ball well against Atlanta during their last scrimmage. i expect MP to come out swinging with a new staff and a new attitude. I don't have any details about the team, but I am thankful that MP is no longer an opponent of the Sulphur Springs Wildcats as they have some players that make things happen quickly. Hope to see a local east Texas team send a metroplex team home with a loss.
  8. Wow. I guess no one cares about this game. This is a huge game. Tigers need a big win. Pine Tree looking to shock the district with another big win. I can still not believe they beat my wildcats, but hats off to the Pirates. They played big and I expect PineTree to roll over the struggling Tigers tonight. PT has home field advantage and it is homecoming. Good luck to both teams.
  9. Paris no doubt will bring a ton of athletes to Pleasant Grove, but I think Pleasant Grove wins. They run the Wing T flawlessly and then when you commit to stopping the run, they hit you deep with the passing game. I think it will be close, but I think PG wins.
  10. Okay...Okay...I see MP getting some love. MP will be too fast for North Forney. They have big play potential. I have to pick MP because of much improvement the last two seasons, but they ain't ready for those Cats from SS.
  11. I heard the live quarters had PG over MP 38-7. I was not at the game so I am not sure about the controlled part. I was told they only played three live quarters and that PG dominated with their run game. Mt. Pleasant is spreading the field and trying to throw but they lack consistency.
  12. These predictions are fun, but the Wildcats of SS are back this year. Coach Owens has got a special group of kids that have struggled the past couple of years, but with the experience gained they will shock much of the district this year with a fast paced/high powered offense. Coach Owens will have the Cats ready to take on this struggling district. Pine Tree, Greenville, Hallsville, and MP won't be within two scores of the Cats when the fat lady sings. I'll say this, the Cats are playoff bound! Get some!
  13. I did not make it to that one. I am not really sure what happened in Florida. We have looked pretty good against Sherman and in the LE scrimmage so I don't know what happened to our Offense. We will get back on track this week. Paris will have some athletes for for sure and I know they can score quickly. We have to have a quick start against them.
  14. From what I hear I don't think MP is that bad. Penalties and turnovers have not allowed them to get into a rhythm offensively. I do not think they can beat those wildcats but I expect them to get some wins during district. I think they compete with Greenville and Pinetree. As for these Cats, come watch us wreck shop on Paris this week. Paris will struggle to stop our offense. Wondering if MP can handle the big back from Sherman. He is a beast! Good luck to all of 16-5A this week.
  15. Oh wow. Of course they will be looking at film and preparing for the next game. The point is they took a pounding at North Forney. They were lucky to get out in the shape they were did. They are going to have to recover from the shock of the loss to a team that was not competitive last year. Everyone expected a win for MP against North Forney.
  16. Think it is too soon for the Tigers to think about North Lamar. It will be a long recovery after the North Forney. game.
  17. Got some confirmation today that the Tigers are gonna start this one off right with a big win. Hearing this week that the NF defense is slow and could not slow down Garland in their scrimmage. A soft defense combined with an offense without any "highlight reel" athletes means a big win for Mt. Pleasant. Feeling good about my wildcats too after a decent performance against LE. Hoping for a big year and a win to open their season. It's official- Wilcat First Down!
  18. There is so much to consider. People need to look at the big picture when they are considering a coaching change. How does the change impact the players? Is there a time when character and integrity are more important than wins and losses? I would say yes, but the time is usually short. Wilcat It's official. Sulphur makes the playoffs in 2016.
  19. I have to say MP takes this one as much as we need them to lose. I don't think North Forney will be able to stop the run. I thought MP would be about the same as they were last season, but from what I have read about the PG scrimmage, the tigers may be pretty competitive. The run game is solid behind the big o-line and they added a shifty QB. It could be a big year for MP, but of course those of us in Hopkins county are hoping that it isn't. All things considered, I'll take MP in a blowout.
  20. Weigh in on these games from Week 1-District-16-5A. Who wins and what does it mean for the 2016 season? Sulphur Springs vs Sherman Mt. Pleasant vs North Forney Texas High vs Bishop Lynch Hallsville vs Whitehouse Marshall vs Tyler Lee Greenville vs North Garland Pine Tree vs Jacksonville It's Official! Wildcat first down!!! Willis
  21. Where are the wildcat fans? I feel like this is going to be a great season for my cats. Last season had to be one of the worst ever, but Coach Owens will have the team on point when district rolls around. I see a Greenville team with another coaching change and a struggling offensive attack. Pine Tree looks to be in turmoil with coaching changes there. The program was certainly on the rise, but the changes will have to set the Pirates back. I feel like the Cats bounce back strong and take fourth in the district. I am not expecting state semis, but I think we will be ready. When we play someone of equal ability, our coaches usually pick up the win with x's and o's. "It's Official!" SS Wildcats just sneak into the post season. Wins against MP, Greenville, Pine Tree.
  22. What is North Lamar going to look like this year? Any dynamic playmakers or lots of returning players?
  23. Did they already scrimmage? If so, what did both teams look like?
  24. Got to agree with Mavchamp. Sulphur has one rough year and now everyone is going to "STEAMROLL" the wildcats. As for the Mt. Pleasant O-line, they were huge last year, but the tigers just barely escaped with a win at our stadium. The wildcats will have a more experienced squad and I think it will be a tough battle between these two teams. Far from a "STEAMROLL" victory for the Tigers.
