  1. They aren't going back to split locations. It has proven far too lucrative, not to mention popular, to have the single site. Basketball, Volleyball, baseball, and softball all have small schools play during the week and their fans show up..... why should football be any different.
  2. it doesn't matter where the state championships are held..... small schools will be on thursday.
  3. There is another problem. How is it the kids are failing and can't run? Part of the responsibility of a coach is to keep those kids eligible for all seasons.
  4. only 1 coach in 1st period. OC and DC no second sport, they might want to make a little money also. Varsity Coaches not working with freshman kids, they are your future. Oh and ONLY 1 COACH IN 1ST PERIOD!
  5. I'm at a 6A program and we require it of all football players regardless of position
  6. At a school that size all football players should be REQUIRED to run track..... JMO
  7. Who is the head coach? There is a problem if D'field ain't good on the Track!
  8. I hadn't coached above 4A until i came here. We have 5 schools in this district, 4 6A and 1 5A. Every school gets equal. We need more coaches than some other schools due to numbers, this is the solution to the problem and UIL allows it
  9. No. I said "paid" the coach I should've said funded the coach. The coach is paid through the district, the funds are donated from the booster club. We just say "paid by the booster club". Basically each school in our district gets the same number of coaches, regardless of #'s in the program. Our school has 4 baseball coaches and 4 teams. Run about 100 kids in the program. To get another coach our booster club funds the 5th coach. It's really quite legal. Have several programs that do this. Several schools in our area do it also.
  10. 09-03-04 Section 1202 (b) – Employment of Coaches: Compensation (not included as part of the coach’s salary at the beginning of the school year) for progress past the district level of competition is considered pay for success in the UIL competitive activity and a violation of Section 1202. Advancement beyond the first level of competition is one of the goals of any UIL activity and is a desired expectation of the salary and stipend set by the board of trustees prior to the school year. The appendix I of your rule. trust me it's legal. Our district cleared it through UIL. If paid before the year starts it can be funded by a booster club. The rule is set so that coaches don't get paid above what the district pays a coach. It also refers to contracted coaches, its kind of complicated..... call UIL. We did. Have you ever worked at a large multi-school district? The reason I ask is because before I came here I thought the same thing. Found out that the UIL allows it.
  11. I said "paid" and that was wrong. The rule states that a coach can not be paid above the established guidelines set forth before the school year. The booster club can fund donate the funds to offset the cost of the normal stipend. The he rule is interpreted to prevent the booster club from paying a coach a bonus. Or incentive. It is kind of difficult to explain on here but perfectly legal.
  12. C'mon coach. You are jumping to conclusions. Several multi school districts do it this way. UIL rules state that any full-time employee of the district can be a coach. Our admin of the district went through UIL before they signed off on it.
  13. Not against UIL rules. They are full time certified teachers who get paid by the district. They coach for a stipend that is funded by the booster club. Check your UIL rules.
  14. I didn't say you shouldn't have an opinion. I respect all people and their opinion. My response to you came about because you took one sentence of mine completely out of context. I even explained the context. The 2nd half of my response was in response to your post about "this rule telling you how to raise your kids". It doesn't. I respect your opinion we are having what is called a dialogue. You express your opinions and i express mine you tell your reasons and i tell mine. I have a rebuttal and you have a rebuttal not personal, so don't take it that way By the way, you fund it and you elect people to oversee it. Those people chose to join an organization that organizes and governs extra-curricular activities. Answer me this, do you want to be a part of an organization that allows an uneven playing field?
  15. I can't believe I'm dignifying this with a response, but i will. The term "Government" is being used in this example as state level, i.e. our state legislature, but you knew this. UIL is not part of our state govt, but is an organization selected to organize and "govern" our extra-curricular activities. I.e. Not Government.. 2nd.... earlier you stated that you were against this because you didn't want government telling you how to raise your kids.. How is this rule telling you how to raise your kids? You can choose to move to any town, go to any school you want. This rule doesn't stop that. What it does is tell the school who they CAN'T have playing on THEIR football team. Our Constitution gives us certain Inalienable rights.... and guess what, none of them say "Your kid has the right to play high school sports". High school sports are a privilege and can be taken away if the rules aren't followed.
  16. Our school has 5 coaches who get their stipend paid by our booster club. Not the school, that my friend is one example of people funding coaches. Bigger picture, the school decides where to spend the taxpayer money that funds our schools. Some schools decide to pay their coaches a lot more for coaching than other schools. That decision is made by the people in the school district and enacted by the school board. I.e. People funding coaches.
  17. The difference is that a kid moves into the band and no one even knows they look and sound the same.... Someone moves into the football team and everyone in town knows. Most towns in Texas the community revolves around the high school and the high school never has more townspeople gather together to support/watch an event than the football games. It is the most visible and recognized event. Take our school for example, our team played 1st round of playoffs in Dallas. We are in Houston area, our principle made an announcement to the teachers to be smart about giving big stuff on friday. Not because the football players needed to focus, but because at noon 700 kids were leaving class to participate in the football game that night.... 700 kids. Why does sports get rules that other comps don't get.... because it effects a ton of kids. Its not just money. Sports are the most recognizable thing a school has going for it. And it also the most scrutinized.
  18. I know plenty of schools who have coaches that teach no classes or just 1. Our tennis coach has this schedule...... on a block schedule, 1st block every day Freshman Tennis, 2nd block everyday JV Tennis, 3rd block everyday Conference, 4th block everyday Varsity Tennis. Doesn't teach a class. I have 1st block everyday In Class support, 2nd block everyday Conference, 3rd block everyday Varsity football, 4th block everyday Freshman football.
  19. Apples to oranges. Grades are part of school and the UIL enacted it for ALL competitions because it equally effected ALL programs. Move ins aren't equally effecting other competitions like they do sports.
  20. I understand that, but the District exec only gets involved if the previous school checks "moved for athletic purposes" or another school reports them and has evidence. The actual first line of checks and balances is the Supt of the school the kid moves to. When a kid get reported to Dist Exec the first thing the do is call the supt at the school to fact check. If that Supt can't prove it then it moves to the exec board. It can't start at the state level. If it did, the backlog would be so big that a kid might be a sophomore in college before his hearing. You know as well as I do, you can't make a blanket rule for all comps.... the band director doesn't want a rule set on them by the football coach and vice versa. Each entity is separate and should be governed so.
  21. Everyone has their own opinion and I respect yours... But I trend the other way. I think it makes a difference. When you change the rule, you open yourself up to all kinds of situations.... like parents renting apts for their kids while they live in other towns. Seen it happen more than I care to. The rule shouldn't be abolished in my opinion because it is too easy to get around. When you move somewhere all anyone has to say is they moved to get closer to work, or better quality of lifestyle. Don't shoot their mouth off about moving to get a better coach/athletic situation.... and the rule doesn't apply. The only people who get busted by the rule are people who are dumb. The rule isn't legislating reasons you move.... it only legislates "vocalized" reasons. You still can put your kid where you want them, just got to be smart about it. Educated.... which the whole point to school. ; )
  22. You know what I mean.... if tuba kid moves into a town like say..... Canton. They may get first chair, but the 8th chair kid is still in the marching band and performing/competing with the team. If the quarterback moves in then the other quarterback is sitting and watching, Apples to Oranges man. We've known each other for a long time, you know what i'm talking about.
