  1. The rule states they can not be paid to teach in a league sponsored school sport. Little League is a league that sponsors the team they were helping. Baseball is a school sponsored sport. IE they were paid to coach a league team in a sport that is school sponsored. If they were paid to coach a team in a Cricket League they would not be in violation of the rules. The problem is they were paid to work only with a specific team.... umpires work with multiple teams, groundskeepers work with the fields. These kids only worked with a specific team and were paid by the other coaches of that team. From the same article--- "You catch two people breaking rules, you don't flunk the whole class," Katy baseball coach Tom McPherson said. "We can't do anything about it. They're great kids."
  2. You can pay them to Umpire. You can pay them to do field maintenance. You can not pay them to coach. In this instance they were paid to coach.
  3. What I meant was that no one in your program has played 6a football at the varsity level. I know all about the renaming of 6a. I also said I have no doubt your kids and talent will prove successful, just that past success isn't relevant.
  4. Not trying to be a dissident but not 1 person in your program has played 6A football. Because the program competed at that level for years has nothing to do with these kids. It will be an adjustment for them. I believe that the Talent level at Longview will overcome it, but to say that 5 seasons ago has any effect on today is a bit naive.
  5. Why should we adjust a schedule to cover the fact that your kids can't hit my kid? This is what we call modifying...... It has no place in sports.
  6. You aren't leveling the playing field.... you are slanting the playing field towards the team with 2 avg/above avg and away from the dominant pitcher. Manipulating pitchers so your #1 pitches against the best team is called "Coaching Strategy"... makes sense. Next, if I have to throw my #2 vs somebody in district every week, then I didn't win with 1 pitcher. I won with 2. Ain't gonna win a District title by losing every other game. The #2 has to be good enough to beat those other teams.
  7. you can't win a District championship with only 1 pitcher now can you? If you pitch #1 on Tuesday, don't you have to, Theoretically, throw #2 on Friday? Don't see how playing the same team on Tuesday and Friday changes this. It is already being done.... all you are trying to do is give the team that can't beat my #1 a competitive advantage. Why punish the team with the best pitcher because yours isn't as good?
  8. AT&T benefits West Texas kids and East Texas kids. Is negligible for Central Texas kids. They did not rotate championships ever. So don know what you mean by this. Prior to single site, the championships were played at the discretion of the schools. If you are going to make an argument, try making an argument based on facts.
  9. DFW is more centrally located than Houston. The only kids who benefit from Houston are Houston area kids. West Texas and East Texas has further to drive. Region 4 is rarely represented. So it is negligible for them. More fans are at games in DFW than Houston, which benefits kids. SA is not in the mix due to stadium issues. And only Benefits the South Texas Region which is rarely represented at State.
  10. AT&T is not what is best for the kids? It is best for the majority of kids..... Rotating is not.
  11. It is important. The teams involved split the profits from the gate. So I think that attendance might be a little bit important to those teams.
  12. I made my point because of attendance. Houston, and I coach here in Houston, does not have the following for High School football that East Texas or DFW has. Much smaller attendance.
  13. How would I feel..... I don't see how it could happen. I would find a way. Just like you would. How do you think the baseball, softball, track, etc, figure it out? They just do. It isn't a problem for any other sport.... why is it a problem for football? Its not. It just that for years football got to pick its own site and we as coaches hate change. Well guess what? It ain't changing. Might as well get used to it. AT&T is the best place to host it, proven this year in Houston, so lets get behind it.
  14. Ask the kids on the team if they would rather play at AT&T or some random site. I bet 90% wouldn't care if they played at 6:00 am on Thursday or Midnight that night. They want to play at AT&T. It may be inconvenient for fans of small schools but its worth the inconvenience. My jr year in high school, played for a state title at Waco..... the semifinal round we played at Texas Stadium. Every player on our team tells stories about playing at Texas Stadium. Its the coolest memory of my high school career. And I played in 3 State Championships and won 2.
  15. Do you? Have you seen the effects? Just curious.
  16. They probably are angry with the school board for putting him into a situation that he felt he could no longer be a part of.
  17. Student teachers are allowed to volunteer
  18. Depends on the area. Down here where I coach everyone buys... Conroe/Woodlands area. Of Course the housing market is booming here and you can sell a house in a week. Most small towns I wouldn't buy because I don't want to get stuck with a house
  19. This article is about Lubbock Estacado not Sherman
  20. As a coach.... It is a huge red flag when the school board vetos the recommendation of the Supt. The person they hired and gave the power to search for and recommend employees. Most coaches will be a little wary of that situation. As a community member y'all think the school board is showing that they are doing "what is best for our school" as a coach we see it as going into job where there is a divide in power and that usually doesn't bode well.
  21. He was added to the roster after District Certification. The rule is very obscure and hard to find. The committee believed that the rule was not broken on purpose and no competitive advantage was gained. So that is why the probation was granted.
  22. Longview. It is good for ETx if the Lobos could win one again.
